Thank you for the video, like others have commented, pretty straight forward compared to others, but I hasten to add, I am not knocking them, they are trying to help, and I thank them for their efforts.
I am a bit like yourself in that I don’t use some programs a lot, and end up forgetting how I did things in the past, so I watch, then re-watch and write down what the steps are for later use, after running through the script a few times to iron out the bits I got wrong, and keep for next time I need to do a similar project.
    So once again thank you.

I have the following issue while using the laser in my Ender 3-Pro from Creality:
The height can be customized, and the printer responds to Z offset changes. (software, screen, or Gcode)
The machine, I heard it switch on/off, although it does not engrave at all from laser speed 15 to 3,000 mm/min that I tried.
I just see a mild sign of work when I put my eye close, but nothing noticeable.
The laser won't light up by itself. I have to go to the screen of the printer and adjust the Fan Speed 100% for every print.
Even though, the gcode file has M106 S255 in several sections..... and M107 at the end.
CAN YOU HELP ME TO MAKE THE LASER WORK....? it had not been an easy process, I am almost frustrated.
    Thanks.

A simple concise guide to get started with this workflow
    Thank You.
also the CAMotics software is a nice simple interface to view the gcode.
all in all a workflow that is much simpler (for me) than the other free options I have looked into.
to be clear I have used inkscape so that part makes it a reduced learning curve,
and inkscape has some very powerful tools for making 2d art.
but you were very concise in the instructions which lent itself to switching from
the video to the program to do the example myself and learn the procedure.
    well done!

Hello Dingo, nice vid. This is how i do it :)
    1. Document properties to worktable dimensions.
    2. Generate the POINTS than leave them where they are normally.
    3. Generate tools library and edit it! Feeds, diameter, depth step.
    4. Area for pockets....
    5. Bla bla bla bla :)
You can have multiple depths using layers. However i wonder
    what Graffiti does? Cheers.

    • @dingolovethrob
      @dingolovethrob Před 11 měsíci +1

I don't know how to do that automatially with Inkscape, never done that myself. We can conveniently turn the outline of the letter into a path and then we turn that path into a tool path. To hollow out the entire letter it would need to do something like a 'raster scan' for example where it does lots of lines within the outline. I'll have a look and see if I can find any way to do it in Inkscape.
I found this video where the chap goes through how to do that:
      czcams.com/video/yUTVOTDbDRI/video.html
its 11 years old though so things may look a boit different now.

GcodeTools is under the Extensions tab of Inkscape - perhaps it must be downloaded separately. - I cannot remember - it was so long ago I started using it. Check your version of inkscape is up to date and then if you still do not have GcodeTools then I suggest that it must be downloaded as an extension. Good luck.

ezzy c - I do use a bit of linux but have extreme difficulty with certain things. - consequently I'm STUCK ON WINDOWS until I work out how to do the hardware level things in linux that I find so easy in windows. I DO use open source s/w whenever possible and recommend it's use whenever I can and have made donations to the software authors whose programs I use a lot...
      - The specific things that I find really hard in linux is stuff like the equivalent of the control panel in windows, working out whether a USB device has been recognised by the system, if it has been succesfully enumerated, whether its drivers are okay, that sort of stuff. - I've never found a satisfactory source of info that is dumbed down enough for me.

@@dingolovethrob it's easier than what you've explained in your video, Linux has come a long way, from android os to ubuntu, most Linux distributions have a software manager ( much like an app store) that's mainly open source, Linux generally automatically picks up any hardware so drivers aren't really an issue, unfortunately I myself am forced to run windows when running cnc software as the software I use is designed for windows and wine🍷 ( windows emulator for executable/doss software) has a couple latency issues that get under my skin, personally I prefer Linux 100%, I like to design my own software from legally accessible repositories when software doesn't work the way I want it to, which Microsoft doesn't exactly supply or allow and they enforce strict penalties for doing so. I do use Linux for certain cnc projects, like my cnc RC property patrol tank. Took a 3018 cnc shield and used x-y for L-track R-track and z for the turret, my spindle output hooked to solenoid for the trigger, just a co2... But the ir cam and whatnot makes it pretty fun, had a laptop setting around and decided that since I already used a wireless gamepad to control that shield and had it mapped out for the software on that computer, just as well combine it all. Considered modifying it to check the mail, but I kinda like the turret 😎

In fact I might make a CZcams video of all the things that I can't work out how to do on linux , - show what I mean by doing them on windows and then throw the question out to those in the know... Maybe some kind soul will make a video showing me how easy it is and how dumb I am ! hehe.
...I also do my own s/w (c#) and am led to believe that I should be able to run that on linux.. but my programs do things like open/close files on the desktop, and do serial coms , and I'd guess that stuff would change completely under linux. - I really need a translation guide of some sort and haven't found anything yet...

@@dingolovethrob I have considered making videos of the random shit I Make. But I'm just not the social type, kid's wouldn't allow it even if I tried, those little tornadoes are ruthless and relentless. As to your port issue, there are a lot of forums out there that can tell you everything I forget, personally I find raspbian and Linux lite easier when messing with a arduino based board, but I prefer to use premade grbl boards and the drivers are usually as easy dropping files inside of folders, had to run a terminal on a couple board types and had different issues occasionally with same board types, So I can't give you an accurate set of directions. You can read forums from the Linux communities and solve your problem easily. I'd take the time and find you a good link but I'm not experiencing the issue and I don't want to be the guy that has you spending hours wasting time, I find that GitHub and sourceforg generally solve the majority of my problems. You can try wine🍷 and the candle exe. With the driver installed in wine. It works for me on ubuntu studio and Linux lite. But mint, fedora, coin,or anything with KDE gui won't work no matter what I do. Xfce seems to be the most stable to work with, I'd try ubuntu studio, comes preloaded with most of the software visible on your computer plus an arsenal of badass creative programs. Saves me days worth of getting the software I use frequently from computer to computer. Nothing like having to search and reinstall everything every time you start a new system. There's like three things I install that doesn't come with it. mixxx, wine, and virtualbox. Oh... And antimicro! Because controlling your cnc with a wireless xbox controller is the shit 😎 if you have a xbox or usb type game controller, install antimicro, you can remap the buttons to the computer keyboards functions,in candle for instance, the numerical keypad controls most of the softwares functions, simply go into antimicro and assign desired controller buttons to the key on the number pad, and behold... the 3D CNC Etch-A-Sketch360😎

Note sure exactly what you mean by "just saves as file"... The gcode that it generates is in the form of ascii text , and if you go to time 3:01 in the video you can see where you tell it the filename and location to save that file, it's in the preferences tab of the Path to Gcode dialogue. Hope that helps...
