A man married both his girlfriends in the same mandap in a village in Chhattisgarh's Bastar recently. The uncommon marriage was consensual for the three newlyweds. Polygamy is the practice of marrying multiple spouses. When a man is married to more than one wife at the same time, sociologists call this polygyny.What law says about practise of polygamy in different faiths in india
While the practice of polygamy is outlawed in India, an exemption has been made for the Muslim community under the Muslim Personal Law (Shariat) Application Act, 1937. Polygamy violates Section 494 of Indian Penal Code which prohibits bigamy and nikah halala amounts to rape under Section 375 of IPC.
In 1997, the Supreme Court had refused to interfere with the practice of polygamy saying the matter was a policy decision and the courts should not interfere.

I m from Goa. Goa has uniform civil code. Same laws for all the religion. Polygamy is the crime .
the code has certain drawbacks and is not strictly a uniform code. For example, Hindu men have the right to bigamy under specific circumstances mentioned in Codes of Usages and Customs of Gentile Hindus of Goa (if the wife fails to deliver a child by the age of 25, or if she fails to deliver a male child by the age of 30). For other communities, the law prohibits polygamy.

All this time in 70 years hindus had been away from their Shastras but due to Internet and reliance we know the real reason of our customs and traditions. Like Polygamy. For people who don't know . Shastras are divided into changeable Smriti and permanent Shruti. Laws are part of Shruti. So Polygamy and Polyandry was a part for a certain period of time for sure. Who started it and why, don't know the reason but one thing for sure that it wasn't sanctioned by Gods.
Krishna himself said he was marrying not for selfish reasons but for the compliances he had to do. Then people say Vedas sanction Patriarchy cause he have no Goddesses having multiple Husbands.
For them my answer - Krishna himself didn't do polygamy for selfish reasons nor did Draupadi.
Krishna is considered God in the mainstream cause he did so many extraordinary things. I believe it was the product of the patriarchical society formed after the life of these peole that put Stories of Krishna as God being polygamous in mainstream
and Draupadi as a Goddess in backfoot. But if you research then you will find that Draupadi was also considered as an incarnation of Adi Shakti and Goddess Kali. There are tribals in India who worship the Pandavas and Draupadi in Himachal.

This all applicable in Arab countries where men can afford more than one wife and their children. Indian Muslims aren't desperate to marry more than 1 wife where it is economical and emotionally not viable. Even though it's allowed in islam having more than 1 wife is socially not acceptable. Throught my experience i never heard any distant or near relatives have more than 1 wife. So stop assuming!

Islam says that marriage is a contract between two adults, where four adults are witness and there are formal contract terms and conditions which are agreed upon and signed. A man gives a guaranteed assurance amount that he would pay in case he falters and terminates the contract and that amount should ideally be dictated by the woman. If the woman decides to walk out of relationship/ contract she has to give up her right to the amount agreed. It's basic laws that women are kept ignorant about, just like any other religion or social system. Marriage isn't sacred, it's a contract and only if both the parties are happy they need to honour this contract.... unhappy marriage is slavery. I've studied Islamic laws and work in this field.
