Yeah, it's what came right after this sweet song that demonstrated the real courage of all three of them: Tom, Dick and Harry indeed. Ready to show and say what needed to be said. 1968 called, so they answered. Rest in power, Tommy and Harry. Thank you, Dick. 🗽🎭🗽
I was wondering if anyone had Harry Belafonte's solo performance on the Smothers Brothers, which includes the whole entire clip of him singing two songs; the second of which is the whole version of his song "Don't Stop the Carnival". I would greatly appreciate it if it can be posted on here. Thank you for your consideration.
@2old2Rock CBS had censored Belafonte song from airing, (the episode in which he plays with Mama Cass in a Bonanza clip) felt it was too controversial at the time. CBS ended up firing the Smothers Brothers...those were the times!
I can't believe they played it straight!! I think it's the only time I ever saw the Smothers Brothers do that. I kept expecting Tom to do stupid stuff, which of course would have been OK too. :-)
I think they played it straight because of the gravely serious stuff that came right after this song: another Belafonte song with footage of the 1968 convention in the background. So the network cut that segment completely.
@RCBIFE I can't find it on youtube but it is on the smothers brothers dvd. I had the disc of Harry on it for a month from netflix. I am now going to buy the smothers brothers season just for the performance!
@2old2Rock You do? I don't see it posted on your channel page. I saw the DVD of the show and loved him singing that song and others. Did you post it and I missed it?
The Smothers Brothers were WOKE! This show was just a few weeks after the 1968 Chicago Democratic Convention and Riots. Subversive mainstream anti-war hippy-loving folk singers. They and Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In were our respite from war news.
Belafonte sure made the rounds in his heyday. He was on everybody's show. They did a great job here. I loved the Smothers Brothers when I was a kid.
Lordy, this song and rendition are uplifting, sweet, hopefull and reignites the mission.

This is a GREAT ciip of 'Tom, Dick and Harry'!! Thanks for posting that!!
LOVE it, love the song, love the S Brothers... and Harry, handsome man!
Don't Stop The Carnival is on here. Great clip
The footage from the 1968 convention is amazing, and totally censured from the show, so the tv audience never saw it. 🎭
Thank you for sharing this with us. All of it!
What a nice voice has harry!
RIP Tommy Smothers
Rest in Power, Tommy and Harry. When history called, they answered. 🗽🎭🗽
which one can say, marvelously, congratulates you, thank you:))
Thanks for the info. I tried to correct the title but it's too long for CZcams so I had to shorten it a bit.
Great stuff! All three can sing, and the rapport is choice!
Tom Dick and Harry *Groans*
Ok now that that is out of my system, fantastic vid.

Nice.

Rest in power. When 1968 called, they tried to answer. 🗽
Without realizing it, I've been responding to comments from 14 years ago.
I have another clip of him doing Gordon Lightfoot's "Song For A Winter Night". Alas, I do not have the one you mentioned.
@2old2Rock You do? I don't see it posted on your channel page. I saw the DVD of the show and loved him singing that song and others. Did you post it and I missed it?
@Gorky83 Mary Travers did a great version on her solo album "Mary"
@2old2Rock I am referring to "Song For A Winter Night."
every man and WOMAN should be free!
He's not a bad actor either. He plays a mobster with a nasal discharge problem in Uptown Saturday Night.
Another clip not giving performance date..
Sure passed a lotta law since then...
AWESOME CORNY AND GOOD AND FUNNY
You are forgetting what came right after...not so corny.
What an amazing song for two white men (from that time) to sing this song with Belafonte.
