Lyrics:
You've got to trust your instinct
And let go of regret
You've got to bet on yourself now star
'Cause that's your best bet
Watch me now with a wicked and wild and I said
We come with the funky style that gets us known for the show
And we'll mix the hip hop reggae if we say it is so
And fuck the naysayers cause they don't mean a thing
Cause this is what style we bring
Now it's morning but last night's on my mind
There's something I need to get off my chest
And no matter what may come to shine
The dream will always be mine
All mixed up, you don't know what to do
Next thing you turn around and find the person is you
Thought a freak might be the thing
But the first could be the last, so just get off of your ass
All mixed up, you don't know what to do
Next thing you turn around and find the person is you
Thought a freak might be the thing
But you know this will pass, so just get off of your ass
You've got to trust your instinct
And let go of regret - Hudba
I love the visual aesthetics of the 90's music videos. The color hue, saturation, the fisheye lens.
Jonathan Simões same!!!
Absolutely bloody bang on with that comment. It hits on an energy which just doesn't exist now.

Nostalgia overload
Super underrated bassist.
always been one of my favorites ... my first concert ever was in 1995 on his birthday of all days and he did a 3 minute solo which led to be playing bass for my whole life ..
The main reason I love this 🎵
Man, there really is nothing like 311. Their uniqueness is one of a kind. Are they rock? Are they rap? Are they reggae? Y E S.
You will like Sublime
Don't forget hip hop, that drum beat is a straight up bangin boom bap groove.
You could add ska to the mix.
For years I thought they were Jamaican.
I got to see 311, greenday, Nirvana, blink 182, sum 41 and Metallica 😁. Good times.
I will always remember the first time I heard this band, on a Walkman cassette player during science class in the 5th grade, me and my friend Steven taking turns with his headphones and trying not to let the teacher see us. It was the Blue album. That year for Christmas, I got my first boom box with a cassette and CD player built in.. Shortly after, I asked my parents to take me to the local music and video store, where I went to the cd section and started looking for something to buy, and there it was... a used copy of the Blue album on CD in all it's glory. I took it home, popped it in the boom box, and listened to it on repeat for days, reading the cd booklet and learning lyrics. I could go on and on about 311 because they have been the number one band in my life since those younger days. Their albums have paralleled my life, and I can remember where I was in life when I listen to any of their songs. 311 isn't just a band, it's a part of who many of us are as people.
Brandon G good times bro
I don't know if you're my age (born in 86), but your story is spot on with mine. I remember asking for a CD player boombox for xmas - just so I could buyt the 311 blue album. I memorized every 311 song in the album, and played at least one 311 song for each high school talent show I was in. The only band I've paid to see live is 311. As a young man I was infatuated with their sound - but as an adult I finally understand the message. Unity.
Hi Brandon, born in '81 here. Just wanted to tell you I loved your story, reminded me of my younger years!
I'm an 83'er but yeh same story here. My thing was a disc man tho so my parents couldn't hear they woulda never let me have the blue album. 😂😂
Thank you for sharing that story...I love it! You trusted your instincts and let go of regret...xoxoxo
Now this brings back memories. Used to sing this song all the time.
... also, some wise lyrics in the song: "you've got to trust your instinct and let go of regret"
The councilman in Bob's Burgers deciding over the "fun trash can resolution" sure thought it was wise. Get the 311 tattoo. Also, anyone have any cardboard moving boxes?
this is one of my all time favorite songs. the 90’s had some of the best music of all time man
My best friend of over 16 years, had a heart attack and died on Sunday. His name was Brent and he was your biggest fan. He would always brag about how many of your shows he had been to. He worshiped you guys. The 311 symbol was his first tattoo. I feel all mixed up and I don’t know what to do. But thank you guys for making such great music that made my best friend so happy.
Man so glad to see so many young people commenting.. Happy 311 Day!!
i have smoked so much weed listening to this band!!! 90's was a great decade to be a teenager!!!
sure was
+Ernie Baylor LOLLL
You got that right...lol
yeah it was
Ernie Baylor Agreed! When I was a teenager in the 90s, I had wished I grew up in the 60s. Now that I'm 40 I'm thankful I was a 90s teenager :)
I was hearing this song on repeat in my dreams, woke up and came straight here to listen to it. Such a great song, and it was a blast to read fans here. Best wishes to all you out there!
The '90s were my generation's era (Generation X) when it came to awesome bands like 311! I'm so glad to still be around to enjoy their stuff as well as other awesome bands like Hole,Pearl Jam,and Nirvana.
Erica Wynn all the fucking generations sucked
... Gen X's era was the 80s. This is 100% Gen Y's domain
Gen X all the way 🤙 these guys are gen X’ers
@@drygordspellweaver8761 All 90's musicians and creatives are mostly Gen X's. Move aside and stop pretending this is Gen Ys.
@@sofisa11 go listen to George Michael and leave Gen Y music for Gen Y
The 90s were the shit. I swear. This would be the only decade I would love to relive when that movie 'Kids' was basically self-explanatory on behalf of my (our) generation. Lol.
Good movie!!!
Same 💯
Kids today think the same way about aids.
Gotta see that movie now
ok but minus the HIV part
still sounds fresh even though it's almost 20 years old. that's what i love about 90s alternative music. was influenced from punk, so it remains ageless.
very true and bold statement :)
Agreed. Have you ever consumed Datura?? I hope not lol
true music is decline lol. and 311 is funky fresh!
GLOhead have you ever consumed ayahuasca, you should.
al whits Have you ever consumed a box of Sour Patch Kids whilst destroying a bag of movie popcorn?
2024 and still Blasting 311, who's still with us 90s Kids!?? 💪💪👊🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
This song has straight up changed my life. I’ve been a 311 fan since I was a young teenager back in the 90s. There’s been times when life has been hard and I’ve literally heard “f&$@ the nay sayers because they don’t mean a thing” in my mind and it’s given me so much strength. You’ve got to bet on yourself man! You’ll be hard pressed to find truer words!
This is what I get for looking up bands like Sublime
Woke up, and played this for no real reason at all before work today. It put me in the best mood for the rest of the day. This might become a small part of my wake up ritual.
MrMentalInertia oh hell yeah! Make this your "Redbone."
Same for me. Gets me going for the day
This happened to me today❤️❤️🥰🥰🥰
This is a great idea! I make time for "music therapy" EVERY day. The music helps set the tone, and I'm pretty sure it also contributes to keeping my blood pressure levels steady. 😉
Just did the same thing. Have ran it about 15 times in a row
For me, this song defined the 90s the best.
When I hear it, it's like I get sent back 20+ years.
Graduating high school in 1999, I swear 311 were EVERYWHERE. One of the greatest times of all!
Some songs are just timeless. This being one. Always picks me up.
I miss the 90s :(
jason androy well get used to the 2000s
me too :( Just growing up in Los Angeles in the 90's and 311 was my fav(still are). Times were so much better!
Same
jason androy Dane I wish we can just go back and never come back to 2018
I'm an 80s guy but the 90s was the last era that music was generally great.
The 90s has the most eclectic genres of music of any decade. I too am glad I was a teenager during that time. It was amazing to see so many of those bands in concert
This is their best song, or at least my favorite! I don't like all their stuff but i can't get enough of this song!
"You've got to trust your instinct and let go of regret. You've got to bet on yourself now, Star, because that's your best bet."
I fucking *LOVE* this band.
You made total sense until you cursed…..if you know 311 they never curse
@@therealmrduber except for when they say "ass" in this song...
Thank you for the correction
Next is 69
@@therealmrduber @ :49 fuck has been edited out. (fuck the naysayers) It pisses me off a little, I doubt anyone who would watch this couldn't handle the word.
I miss the 90s send me back and leave me there 😀
This is in my repertoire of karaoke songs. It’s challenging, but the crowd always loves if! Props to 311 for such catchy sh*t
I really need to build a time machine and get my ass back to the 90's.
Take me with you bro!
Unless you had money back then, you were stuck watching daytime TV most of the time.
Cigarettes were 2 bucks
We all do.
Can’t get enough of Chad Sextons drums. I love the ringing pop off his snare :)
Certainly got that garage type of feeling to it
I know, the snares sound to flat nowadays.
Man, I'm jealous of people that were my age back in the '90s (25yrs) You folks went to the best concerts, there weren't so many rules, more freedom, and still could have a smashing time in the early 2000s. People with my age now are mainly at home surfing net and trying to not offend people with their opinions ://
Hahah your exactly like me. I’m 27 and wishing it was like the mid late 90s now, them times way better for everything music , clothing everyone was real the internet wasn’t big no Instagram Facebook nothing just simpler times
It was a great time to be a kid and teenager as well. I'm in my mid 30s now. The 90s was a very special time
Yep the price we pay to be 40s now. We will pay more for our era back
@@bobbybosche4372 Mid 30s as well. The 90s was a great decade to grow up in. Though I wish I had been a bit older as I missed seeing these bands live in their heyday.
That's bs. Tv was way more edited, there were albums banned, peewee got canceled
That snare though!!!! It is cranked up to the max!!!
The only thing I hate about this song is that it's too short.... I gotta play it 2 to 3 times to get my fill ;)
obtower2 it’s like you read my mind!!! I wish the song was longer 😭
I agree! This song never gets old...
Word. I loved those songs like this which I played multiple times per day.
I agree with you should be a lot longer

That's so wise and pure.....
You've got to trust your instinct
And let go of regret
The best thing I like about 311 is that not one of their songs sounds the same as another. I love that the most!
I'm so glad my uncle got me into 311 even after sublime and stuff
saw them 5 years ago. still deaf. worth it.
I still remember the days of watching this on MTV. Gosh, I love music videos.
xSweetieLizx I MISS music videos
xSweetieLizx I know right??!!
I keep coming back to this cause I haven't heard another song yet that has rock, reggae and hip-hop fused so well.
check out
Seedless
or
Tomorrows Bad Seeds, tho more heavy on the reggae
This band tore it up live! 90's were the best
Chad Maier no decade was the best they all sucked in there own way
The fact that his has only 3 million views triggers me, it should have a lot more
The fact this comment only has 6 likes triggers me
Yeah what's with their two most well known and remembered songs, Down and All Mixed Up, being dissed like this?

This band always puts me in a good mood.
311 was a great band to listen to in the summer time in high school. My parents would go to work and I'd be blasting 311 at home eating elios pizza and playing black ops 2..... good days. I will never relive those days.
That’s one hundred percent right
Those were the days.
My sister is 5 years older than me... She introduced me to this band and I've thanked her ever since.
Went to high school in the 90s with these guys here in Omaha. They've always had good music. Even before they were famous!
🧢🧢🧢
Omaha stylee!!
311 will forever be one of my favorite bands
just bought tickets to see them in Austin in august fuck yes!!
HAPPY 311 DAY!!!
I love 90s rock bands including this one
just saw them live with sublime with rome. they absolutely killed it! easily one of the greatest live bands out there
Love 311 and how chilled they make me feel
True dat
+TheHilikus89 Mos. def...I used to work out to them, but was relaxing in a exciting way...weird.
so good to be. eh?
My college roommate used to sing "Don't Stay Home this Time" to me whenever I wanted to bail on plans lol
Happy 311 Day!
Happy 311 day
Still my favorite 311 song
Hell yes! These dudes are from Omaha Nebraska and I live an hour away in Lincoln- Nebraska's capital! Pretty dope dudes for corn jerkers!!
Happy 51st birthday Guitar player, Nicholas Lofton Hexum April 12, 1970. Madison, Wisconsin. Played in the Jazz band in a Nebraska high school. And made it big. Lesson learned. Big things come from small beginnings.
One thing about the 90s -- you can never say there was no variety of musical styles in popular music. Today's top 40 is basically all hiphop and hiphop-based RnB, including the pop singers. You may see one or two singer songwriters but it's 99% crap.
yup
+Greenguy67 90s were a great time for music.
+Greenguy67 20 years from the blue album and sounds better than many albums today : )
+Greenguy67 i never even thought of that. totally true.
+Greenguy67 true
Best hip hop I've ever heard. Music works better than any antidepressant. Move your body to these groovy tunes.
Such a positive, groove rocking band! Been a fan for decades. Seeing them tmrw for 1st time since 90s 🎉❤️🤘🏻
There’s no other three minute banger better than this.
love the bass sound when the band sings the line "& let go of regret..."
The nostalgia hit after watching them on TIny Desk, had to come back for the memories.
Awe they used to play this on the radio, I used to be able to say the fast parts.
What an underrated drummer 🙌
No shit!
Honestly, hands down, great fucking song, rock and hip hop combined equals genius. This has a smooth, chill vibe, Surfer/Skateboarder song/punk/alternative, but still rocks hard, man I miss these days. True classic, perfect theme, and awesome music genre combos. I'm all mixed up as an adult now. My psychologist told me sometimes you just gotta flash back to your youth, to what was good, and what better way to do it than listening to this song. I'm getting myself on track though! Long live 90s!
That snare is like the 5th member of the band. Lol Very distinctive
What a great time in life
Damn, to be 21 and just live life.
+Bernard Buckholtz it goes by so fast
+Bernard Buckholtz I know, man. Went by so fast...feels like yesterday. :(
+Bernard Buckholtz oh yes :/

Legendary
Wow, this was on constant repeat in High School!
Dudes from f*cking Nebraska ruled the 90's.
I miss the 90s but 311 n incubus are coming to town this summer
what town
Cuyahoga Falls , Ohio at Blossom in August
The tour has been cancelled due to Covid.
This song is out of sight
I was 22 when this album came out. What a great time the 90s were. The high-water mark for humanity in my opinion. I could go back and live in that decade forever. Maybe that’s what everyone says about their 20s when they hit middle age though?
It does seem to be a common theme. My parents say that about the 80s. My grandparents, the late 60s. However for me, even though my formative years were the noughties, and my very😮 young childhood was 90s...I absolutely wish I could live forever in the 90s. Even now that's the music I listen to the most. Before 9/11, before every movie had to have a really obvious message, people weren't as obsessed with their image, before ADD inducing social media. Gaming and SFX were still in their infancy. Ofc it wasnt perfect but it was a way more authentic period.
bro im 15 in 2022 this is an absolute banger!
Happy new year brotha
These guys sound amazing live. One of the very very VERY few bands that sound exactly the same live as they do in their music videos.
For some reason I cannot stop listing to 311 lately and this song is and will always be a banger!!!
I was in high school from the mid to late '90s. Such good times.
My dad use to play this song for me on the way to school, like every morning in elementary school.
So did you hear the advices in there, that's a good dad
@@marioriega yes I did i am 30 now and ive never forgotten them

Damn this song brings me back to doing homework in middle school while listening to the radio.
Great times the 90's were huh?
Fuck home work I was playing 64 in middle school listening to this shit
Makes me want to go to a disc replay
Best band ever. Blink is second to me.
One of the GREATEST Reggae/rock songs EVER!!!

I remember being on leave when this came out with my brother I was in the USMC he was in the Air Force we had a week together of debauchery in Hilton Head 🤣 good times he's been gone for 8 years now,God bless him
life lessons with 311
Haha the 90’s really were unbeatable in every way
I miss the 90s I want to go back
“This Was Middle School For Me.. I’m 39 Now & Still Bump This 💯”
311 prevented WW3 simply by existing. Most underrated and socially influential group ever
I’ve always been a 311 fan myself as well, but I don’t think I would call them “socially influential.” They mostly stayed away from controversy rampant in rock bands in those days.
love this band!!!this song never gets old and will never be!
2021, still fresh!
i miss the 90´s
I'm not gonna lie. For the longest time, I thought 311 were shouting out the poet E.E. Cummings. I finally looked up the lyrics and realized they were saying "You keep me coming." ;).
⭐️CLASSIC⭐️❤️❤️❤️
the most underrated song of the 90's...should be right up there with all the great songs
Ahhh...fond memories, the innocence and happiness that was the 90's. I was in junior high. This song is so chill. I remember going to their website with my dial up modem, waiting hours for this video to load.
