i bought this laptop for only $1369 last sale in my country and damn its freaking gorgeous. all my cousins and my siblings are envy af because of how gorgeous and powerful it is for the price
my specs of my laptop is i9 14900hx and rtx 4060. my ram is 40gb (i upgraded my ram from 16gb)
40 is a lot. Most games need 16-24. Hope you didn't snepn too much on that
@@davitdavid7165 im both an editor (not an expert but trying to be one) and i sometimes i play games from time to time while listening to yt so i need a lot of ram or else it might freeze. i tried playing red redemption 2 at qhd while listening to yt and im not lagging lmao
idk if its because of the ram or gpu or cpu (im not an expert with that but to be safe, i upgraded my ram)
Which is better option between this and lenovo legion 5i 2024?
Why is this year's Acer Helios 18 in the graph for screen response time? Are you already working on the review for it? And speaking of, will you also be reviewing this year's Helios 16 with 4080?
Very good performance in games is not a coincidence. The 330W power supply helps achieve this.
The good thing is that it is not limited by a weak power supply. You can always use PD on the go 👌
My previous TUF laptop had a 240 W charger and the battery drained when CPU + GPU exceeded 150 W. This laptop is drawing more than that so it actually might lead to drain with a 240 W like Jarrod recommended.
The 330W power supply won't even increase the performance by 1% over a 230W one. The chasis just being big and a good thermal design is what gives it the performance
@@elderman64 Correct but it will lead to the battery draining in 3 hours while gaming if it's drawing the 170 W it is. Manufacturers never let the CPU and GPU consume the full wattage of the AC adapter. My Legion 5i Slim 2022 would have battery drain if the power went over 140 W with its 230 W so I returned it.
@@nocommentarygaming2644 That's an issue with specific models with some manufacturing issues, not all models bro
@@elderman64 I've gone through 4 different gaming laptops from different brands and had battery drain issues with every single one. It's definitely not a specific model issue, just a limitation of gaming laptops. I'm not saying it ruins the experience, but that people should have option to get a big power brick if they want the best performance without ruining their battery.
Hey Jarrod i need your suggestion please.
Should i go for legion 5i with core i7 rtx 4070 or core i9 rtx 4070?
I’ll be using the laptop mostly for gaming purposes.
Hello Jarods Can You make a Video about how to clean laptop screen properly Im scared of cleaning the screen it might damage the oleophobic coating
Sir, how to control fan speed and keyboard lighting of this laptop by using linux e.g Ubuntu ?
Last year's version would fit double sided SSD only in one slot. Is it some upgrade or can you probably double-check?
Is it better than legion 5i?
And what do u think is better legion 5i or asus tuf f15 with the same specs??
Hey Jarrod will you review the Llano Cooler pad someday?
Is there any way to align your screen's output to the top of the screen when running a 16 by 9 resolution on a 16 by 10 screen???
(I've been searching for this for years)
Will this be better then lenovo slim 2024 or 5i with 4060 ?
Doesn't battery saving kick in automatically unplugged? Without this review I would have been stoked seeing 90Wh, there must be some way to prevent this huge battery being redundant?
Yo bro can you help me should i get a laptop with i9 12th gen and 3070ti or ryzen 7 7735hs with rx 7600s?
is it still worth it to buy the older predator helios 300 2022 with i5 12500h and 3060 in 2025?
Acer helios neo 16 vs legion 5i pro vs rog strix g16 all in 4060? Which is the best?
Hey jarrod is tongfang planning any new laptop model with the new ryzen ai 370 hx/360 cpu
It's clear for me what the NVIDIA GPU only option does, however, what is the difference between first 2?
Usually I choose which GPU to use for specific games or programs both in the NVIDIA panel and in Windows 11 Graphics Settings. So Auto and Optimus would determine everything else? Or override even those I've chosen? And in any case, what's the difference?
i bought the acer helios 16 last year, 13th gen I9 and 4080rtx with the 250hz micro led screen. Besides predator sense being buggy with other RGB programs and my temps were high before I disabled intel turbo. It has been an amazing laptop, great build quality. I was able to pick it up on sale for 2100 on egg with retail being 2799 usd. One thing I did notice that it doesn't seem to be frequently restocked especially the 16 inch micro led version.
Why you keep using this old cooling pad laptop? When LLANO or IETS GT 500/600 tests?
Hey Jarrod, so which is the better choice between this and the Legion 5i 2024 considering the overall build quality, design, thermals, performance, reliability, and value for money? Great video as always! Looking forward to your next video as I am currently choosing between those two laptops!
Kinda expect you to also test the battery with 60hz and overdrive off
I am only seeing this available with Windows 11 Home. Is it possible to get that upgraded to Pro? I do not want the so-called Copilot Fake AI features on at all in any way.
Yoo Jarrod, how are you doing today? Great video btw 👍
Great video
Just wanted to say since the new graphics driver update just cam out and the 105w limitation is unlocked
Can you please now make a video of it comparing it to the desktop 4060 and the older version
Thank you so much❤
I bought this same exact specs model last week . I must be unlucky because the temps are off the chart. I get thermal throttling while playing PUBG at minimum setting in performance mode, reaching and 102 degrees on some cpu cores before it automatically lowers its voltage to cool down. And this with a maxed out IETS 300 cooler under it. I am returning it back in the next few days . I will probably never buy acer again. I'm thinking about moving to lenovo. Any thoughts?
Will you review the Legion Pro 7i with RTX 4090? It's on sale right now for $2600 usd post tax with 32gb ram and 2 tb ssd.
Hello everybody I want to ask what do you guys recommend razor laptops or the wire laptops.?
And which brand laptops are good for a long-term
Thank you
I do not recommend razer blade, they are the worst in terms of quality control
my 14 inch razer blade gpu died, yes the rtx 3080 died after 1 month of use and it gave me error code 43, it happened to many people in reddit
for some people the gpu didn't die, but the battery exploded, search razer blade battery bloat, you will see hunderds of reddit posts about it
are you going to review the legion slim yoga 7x with the snapdragon soc ?
I hope you do, not all reviews should be about gaming laptops, sometimes about mac or sometimes about new things like this lenovo...
Recently purchased a Laptop that has been a pain ,returned twice to the supplier after the keys started falling off while using. This was fixed and first time I switched it on it would not boot so returned again. Asked to change brand and decided trying one of these after a few friends who had 2023 versions had given good reports. Certainly won't be returning to Lenovo anytime soon from my experience and this laptop has after my short time with it been spot on. My first Acer and though I game mostly on the desktop I will happily return to this thread if it gives me any trouble.
Are you going to make a review on the predator helios 18 2024?
Cleaner design, more powerful build and a bit more compact. Now that's a gaming laptop worth a purchase.
Jarrod, when do you think you will review the Asus ROG G16?
Can you review the asus zephyrus g16? Want to see your opinion on it
Hey jarrod can you do a review on msi katana 15? I want to hear your thoughts about it
can you do Predator Helios Neo 14 ?
I was thinking to buying it but I cant find any youtube reviews. it seem so underated
Imagine if the 4070 had no voltage limit in these bigger laptops.
If a 4070 has 175W it will probably have the same performance as the 4080.
@@igodned I have an 2060 with 115w and it can beat an 4060 with has more cores. My 2060 can reach 80 FPS in Cyberpunk max settings in 1080p.
I think NVIDIA set the voltage limit low for the 4070, similar to the 4060 and 4050, because these GPUs are intended for thin and light laptops that have limited thermal capacity. The 4080 and 4090, on the other hand, were designed for larger laptops with better cooling capabilities. Despite this design intention, OEMs often opt to use the lower-powered 4070 in larger laptops to maximize sales, even though these systems are better suited for the more powerful 4080 and 4090. This decision is driven by profitability, as the less expensive 4070 GPUs sell more units, generating higher revenue for OEMs
Which is better, this or the ROG strix G16
You're an excellent source of knowledge 🎉🎉🎉 Well done 👍
Hey, looking forward for your review on ARM windows laptops. Thanks man
are you planning to review the regular Helios 16 variant? or is it just more of the same just with a metal chassis?
Its the same as the 2023 helios 16 with more rgb and a better cpu. And it has a metal bulid i think
When is the best time to buy a gaming laptop in US?
Will there be good deals in July??
Piece of advice. DO NOT buy a laptop during November or December unless its an emergency and you need a laptop immediately. Gaming laptop availability especially with higher end models is really bad.
Hi jarrod, i recently bought a legion 5 arp8 (2023) WITH RYZEN 7 7735HS, RTX 4060, 16GB DDR5, 1TB SSDnSSD NVME. i looked up my laptop model and i found almost no reviews or anyone talking about this laptop. i love it and its great using it but it made me question, did i make the right choice? is it at least in the top 5 budget/midrange catagory?
I have the same laptop trust me it is really really good,I bought for 1020$ with delivery to my house,it is good even in silent mode I get really good fps in games, however I got two problems with that laptop ( first sometimes when In sleep mode it is not waking up and I feel it is software problem, second the heat of the middle area of that laptop get hot even in silent mode maybe the reason is my country because it has high temperature itself).
That laptop better than Lenovo loq or Lenovo slim because it is not slim which mean better performance, there is no review of that laptop because it is only in some asian countries and you should do some search in CZcams then you will find review about.
@@retrogamer847 I’m glad someone else has it. And to reply to your issues, I haven’t encountered any of those. It could be a problem with your unit. But one real issue I have is the speakers. They’re very bad so I connected stereo speakers to the laptop or sometimes I use headphones.
@@Denariio actually I just bought for playing games and I kinda liked,I really don't hate software problems but try playing some demanding games on it like cod mw3 or battlefield 2042,last year I had Lenovo legion 5 Rtx 3060 but this new one better for me because it is give good power in silent mode and also I can teach you something that gives you lower temperature on CPU side.
It's always like that. Finding decent speakers in gaming laptops is rare unless they are Macs but this year's Asus Zephyrus line-ups have really good speakers@@Denariio

Gigabyte Aorus 15 BMF?
Finally another Acer laptop review! Also, looking at the design at 0:25 this is one of the few times where I actually prefer the design of the previous year’s model. I actually like the blue hinges on the back. :(
I liked this year's model more, it's less gamey and look more professional
I have a budget of 1200-1300 euros and I want to buy a laptop, specifically the ASUS TUF Gaming F16 (2024) (FX607JU-N3069) model. But I don't know if it is the best choice (I think the current price of the laptop is like that because of its release in 2024, and I would like to know if I can find a laptop with the same components but at a lower price)
what about the helios 16?
Its the best for 2000€?

thinking about buying the Acer Predator Triton 16 240hz with a 4070 and a i7 13700H 13th gen for 1400 dollars, anyone tried this laptop or anything similar? I keep looking for gaming laptops around 1200-1400 range with a 240hz display and a 4070.

They're just done in Excel and then copied into Photoshop to save as an image.

Jarrod, if possible, could you add another list of "MAX RPM" of fans in gaming laptops in the comparison?
It would be appreciated 😊🙏
I can buy this machine with even better cpu (i9 - 14900hx) for 1700 €. Should I go for it, or should I go for a same priced legion with amd cpu, which is like at least 30 % worse overall? Thanks for your help guys.
Why this laptop does not have adaptive refresh rate screens?
Is it that expensive to make them?
I wish the Predator software offered FAN CURVES and not static RPM settings
Anybody knows a third party compatible app coz I can't find any that works with this (using 2023 version)
nice to see laptops going for a cleaner look
When is snapdragon x elite laptop review coming?
You can go to advance bios in this laptop which can customize you everything....
Alt + tab +power button ( for starting the laptop )
Than press F2 for going to advance bios
the fact that I can max out the fans like that is great because of the low 70c temps and headroom for a overclock and that means I wont need to get janky with extra fans on the bottom to lower temps
(the typical method of just using a cooling pad isnt as good as putting small laptop size blower fans with intakes directly over(/under laptop) the cpu and gpu. Using a cooling pad that just blows into the bottom or suck a lot of air will just mess with the internal fans and ideally you wanna be to use both)
Would it be possible to start doing also RT benchmarks? Even without a comparison, it would be valuable to know what to expect.
@@JarrodsTech I'm considering buying a laptop sometime this year or early next year, so it would be a big help. I definitely want to utilize raytracing.

What about screen bleeding , predator sense software issue and after service
I have an Acer predator series laptop and the Predator Sense software barely ever works its an absolute joke lol
@@KiloByte74 plz explain all the cons I wanted to buy but confused between this one and legion 5i
I don't own the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 (2024) but I do own the Acer Predator Helios 16 (2023). The software for the Neo 16 might not have the issues I have on mine but if I were you I wouldn't risk it and just get a Lenovo or MSi. PredatorSense is very buggy, it barely ever works and it makes using the laptop a lot more annoying. Also the BIOS on Acer laptops is horrible and barely has any customization compared to Lenovo or MSi laptops, just because of the crappy BIOS I would avoid Acer let alone all of the other issues Acer laptops have.
I'm an old Helios 300 user (2019, and bought thanks to Jarrod's advice) and man, still works!! But my workload needs a bit extra performance and looks like Acer finally did a good work... and battery life is not a thing that I care... because I have a fixed installation to work daily. Leaving aside that detail, it seems to me an ideal option to finally make the leap to windows 11.
guess I'm kinda glad I decided on this laptop. havent played any games yet since I just spent half a day yesterday setting everything up and installing games. but even while just watching youtube and setting it up I noticed the upgrade from my old Acer Nitro 5 from 2019. the screen looks incredible for what I'm used to and its way quieter.
the only thing I liked more about the Nitro 5 is that the keyboard feflt more clicky. this one feels a bit softer, but I'll get used to it no problem.
I got mine for around 1500€ with the 4070 and so far I am very satisfied.
I dont care too much about the portability issues. I wont be using this thing in public anyways and keep it plugged in pretty much 100% of the time.
Watching this from my Helios Neo 16 but with a 14650 - 4060, it's an excellent laptop, use it mainly for editing.
you can get a 230w charger brick if you want more portability.
been using that for office work for a month now and it's all good.
i have no idea what year my Acer Helios Neo 16 is but it has a rtx 4060 i7-13700hx 16 gb of ram and a 1tb ssd for storage
Dang, that reminds me of my work laptop weight wise. I've been spoiled by the zephyrus g15, 4lbs vs 6 is a big difference. Looks nice apart from that, although 4070 is a no go for me.

hey jarod I hope you reply I have a max budget of $750-800 and in this budget I was confused of getting a laptop from these 3
1. Nitro 5 with i5 12450h and 4060
2. New Nitro V with ryzen 7735hs +4060
3. aero 14 OLED with i5-12500h +4050
I had also considered other options like gigabyte g5 and loq but backed off because gigabyte has terrible build, thermal and speakers
and for loq I HAVE HEARD THAT THE MOTHERBOARD is failing on 13gen laptops
please guide me would appreciate your help
and btw awesome video have been following for more than 1/2 decade
Please avoid buying low end laptops especially low end gaming laptops, for your own good, if only you knew how bad some of them can be. Low end "budget" gaming laptops are notorious for having terrible build quality (i.e. hinges breaking, terrible screens that's so dim you can barely see how bad it looks, etc...), Horrible thermals design that constantly over heats and have extremely low power components that struggle to play even light games on lower settings. I once had an Acer Nitro 5 and one day the hinge literally blow up and break the screen it wasn't fun to deal with...
If you want to use a gaming laptop that can actually handle playing games I would avoiding anything that's below a 4070 and an 13th gen i7 and if you plan on doing any intensive productivity tasks or playing any triple A games then you would need at least a 4080. I got decent a gaming laptop for around 1900$ for christmas and even with a laptop that's way beyond the low end ones your looking at it still has some big issues.
My advice to you is to get a higher tier laptop I would personally suggest a laptop with a 4080 or a 4090(make sure you get a laptop with a 150W version). With 4080 or 4090 equipped laptop you will get desktop-like performance (I have a gaming laptop with a 4080 and I can attest to this). I have an Acer Predator laptop with a 4080 and I've never had any issues with running games smoothly.
I would suggest you avoid getting an Acer laptop because I've had some issues with mine and I've heard that their laptops aren't good and instead look into a Lenovo or an MSi such as the Legion 7i and Legion 9i or one of MSi's higher end laptops such as their Raider or Titan line-up.

I prefer the torx screws, less likely to get damaged. I would not take out that half point
It's been a while since I bought a laptop ever since I got my rog flow z 13 and then a handheld i believe this is the future if gaming on the go is the main target at least no more heating and try cooling issues because the choice's are many
Those don't have near the performance of a true gaming laptop though (which some people like me want) so I wouldn't say they're the future
where are all the 4080 laptops?
The new 2024 model is not yet released here in the Philippines, the price will be at least P80,000 (or US$1,360) with an i5 14th gen variant with an RTX 4050 graphics card. Many customers would have the previous model to buy and its inexpensive, or add P1,000 for the RTX 4060 variant.
