Thanks for this vid. I just purchased a 2015 gti and the service tech at the dealer was telling me that the setup (the exact same one in this vid) was useless and is part of the reason for a small oil leak at the timing cover. I was researching a different one but after this vid I’m convinced the dealers don’t like aftermarket parts on the cars.
Kudos to you all for these vids.
Your dealer was right this time. This system is completely useless on the Mk7 GTI, many users that installed it, haven't seen even a drop come out of it even over thousands of miles of use. (I would avoid bypass systems as the stock system works beautifully)
@@eduki really? I thought a the pcv system on the mk7s were prone to failure and that a catch can system can help relive crank case pressure better than the stock pcv
RIP ratchet wrench at 1:30
I love this channel... pls do not stop making videos.
***** Thats awesome... We are so happy to hear that you love the videos. We plan to continue with videos, but we likely won't be able to continue at our current pace of video output. Thank you so much for watching.
The Hose Wrangler is your new nickname after watching you manhandle that hose lol. good video
Those of you who have a Gen 3 TSI engine don’t waste your money on oil catch can. I installed a $350 BFI catch can on my 15’ 1.8L & 18’ 2.0L TSI and after driven over 1.5k miles the can is bone dry. Same for both car.
I have a '16 GTI stock...do you think catch can its a waste for this car?
This video was clear and simple. I don't have my gti yet but just watching this makes me feel confident. Do you guys sell the tools used?
Super helpful, as always. If I do ever get an FSI engine, I will surely be installing one of these.
Thanks.... If we ever get a chance to do this install we will absolutely be filming. The install on an FSI engine would be much easier as the routing isn't nearly as complicated. Here is the link to the FSI Catch can. www.deutscheautoparts.com/View/CCF001EK/0/533738
@deutscheautoparts, So I have a question for you, maybe it can be apart of an AskDap Episode. I have a 2015 2.0T US Audi A3 Quattro, Stage 2, I track the car quite often, but have the notorious white smoke issue on hard braking/long corner banking (Laguna Seca Corkscrew). I've used Spulen's catch can rev 1 (looks like they stopped selling for A3's), ECS's CC system that piggybacks on the stock pcv, and now I'm using the CTS catch can which replaces the stock PCV with their plate, like the Spulen.
When I had the ECS and tracking, I usually would fill the can up each 20 min track session. It would be gas/oil mixture. So I changed it to the CTS system and noticed that I'm filling the can up, but more of the normal creamy coffee colored oil with more water vapor mixed in with some gas. I'm assuming the CTS is filling up - not quickly - but draining maybe every 3 gas fillups about a 1/4 to half can, because the weather has been colder here in San Francisco. For reference, the ECS can, during normal driving, I would almost never have to drain anything as the stock PCV takes care of things.
My question is, my engine seems to have a high PCV windage issue and it's very inconsistent. I was trying to determine the difference between S3 and A3 short block engines, but it doesn't seem to be that different in terms of internal windage trays down below. I've asked many other S3 owners, they don't seem to have any issues as I do. I can't find any other A3 owners that actually track their car, but notice many GTI owners don't have the same issue as I do. I haven't been able to do a compression check yet, but its just so hit and miss. 1) Have you encountered others with similar inconsistent catch can fill up issues and 2) do you think there something wrong with the engine? Overall I have no other issues. I'm gearing up for Stage 3 soon. TIA.
what is the watch brand you are wearing...looks nice.
I bought this can after watching this video as well as the other video explaining the importance of the system. My issue is I tried to install it and I couldn't remove the pcv tube from the turbo inlet at all 😩 please help
How is tfsi different from tsi?
If anything.
I'm just changing out the hose coming from the motor, can I just cut the hose of instead of what your doing with removing everything? Thanks for any help.
Nice video and thanks for the great info. Is a catch can equally necessary for the golf r 2018, and if yes why is it not installed by the manufacturer given its relativly low cost? After all if one is to buy a golf r should be enough educated regarding cars to do the necessary inspections.
Thanks again
do you think I could put this catch can system on when I am using the PWRhaus DV Spacer? it makes my DV go at a 90 degree angle so I am thinking the hoses won't be able to go there?
Does anyone know if an oil catch can really work on a '14 GTI with 36k? I installed one on a X5 and GTI. X5 only catches water vapors and the smell of fuel. On the GTI....I get absolutely nothing. Maybe this is a blessing and I shouldnt look at a gifted horse in the mouth. I dont track, but mostly city and highway driving. So, either I installed it incorrectly, arent beating on it enough, VW changes something that separates the oil correctly, or its not broken yet. Not getting any fault lights or errors, so I'll leave it installed. Interested to know if anyone else has the same results.
Seems pretty interesting! Question for the people who have this catch can, how long or how many miles does it take to get say half a can of oil? I've heard people say they have a catch can on their mk7 but never seem to have any build up of oil?
Question?...do you remove it to drain it (seems laborious), or is there a valve (I see a fitting under the can) one could add a tube or otherwise drain out?
I just need answer on this please! After installing this, and turning on the engine, if you open the oil cap it will show air coming out like blow by! Is that normal?
And if i install the stock and open the oil cal! It sucks the air to inside as if no issues!
Would be amazing to get an answer!
hi paul i have a 2015 gli tsi i wanna mount a catch can for a diy. if i just run the crank case side into a catch can then route the clean hose from the can into the hole on in intake near the bottom of the pipe would that work out ?
Are there real benefits to a catch can? I was looking at this set up for my cc. Vids are awesome man
Thanks we work hard to deliver great videos. As for your question about the benefits we made a video discussing this. Take a look here How Does a Catch Can Work and What Does it Do?
Is this the same process for a 2018 Audi A5 2.0L TSFI?
I'm looking for a video and kit for a Catch can for a U.S. 2016 Jetta 1.4T
No need for thread sealant on the fittings to the can?
Why do car brands never install this as standard equipment if so many people say you HAVE to use one in a turbocharged car that runs on direct injection? It sounds like selling a car without an air filter. Is it necessary for the 2016 GTI?
+largol33t1 answer coming on askdap 79
in a TDI 2.0 140cv: How much oil does it filter? Does it really work?
why not vent the contaminated air to atmosphere ? I mean isnt it better just to block the inlet hole on the turbo and just vent the return to atmosphere ? wount the contaminated air drop octane rating still ?
I would Really like to know the pros and cones on a recirculated system vs a vent to atm on a mk7 gti
+Nima someh Venting to atmosphere is illegal and generally pretty terrible for the environment.
Seems like it would have been easier feeding the hose the other way , instead of feeding the whole length of the hose through that little space ?
Would this be similar to installing a catch can on a 15 Tiguan
I'm new to everything never had a turbo and a gti what's a catch can do what diverter valve is best the resurculation one or the aspiration
We generally recommend using a recirculation valve as that is how the vehicle was designed. As for the info on the catch can take a look here we just put together a video a few days ago How Does a Catch Can Work and What Does it Do?
Hello, This one or the catch can forge is good too?
I would like to see some mods on the newer beetle
What size are the new hoses?
also I click the link to the shop but it goes nowhere.
Will it void my warranty if I installed a catch can?
can it be installed to golf 7 1.4 tsi?
nice video and very helpful.who makes that catch can ?
+Allan Pagtama Take a look here. This is the catch can we used deutscheautoparts.com/catch-can-mk7-gti.html
is this catch can no longer offered on the store ? can't find it anywhere on your shop. all I find are the 600$+ ones.
+Daniel Ross yes we have removed it due to extended lead times with no accurate eta
Is the installation the same on a 2016 Tiguan as the Mk7 GTI...?
+Lawrence Paiva This would likely not be the same.
What is that foam cover over the cold air intake and where can I get it?!
Sounds like youre looking for an intake. Take a look here deutscheautoparts.com/make-model-year/volkswagen/gti/mk7-2015-present/engine/2-0l-i4-tsi/performance/intake.html
+Deutsche Auto Parts Actually no, I'm looking for a sleeve for my Unitronic Cold Air intake for the mk6.
Ryan Kennicott if you send us an email with a picture we can try to help info@shopdap.com

I have a MK6 GTI.... does mine need this system?
Check out our video on how catch cans work. Found here czcams.com/video/Y8UxldLDZpM/video.html
Your MK6 GTI Could benefit from a catch can and you can find that product here www.deutscheautoparts.com/View/CCF001EK/0/533738
Thanks! How can I get my exaust sounding louder and keeping the stock parts?
VWGTI You might look into a resonator delete this will give you more sound.
Do you have a video for that?
VWGTI Im sorry we dont
Why doesn't this come stock from the factory?
+Jose montano Catch cans are not ideal for the average person as they require attention that most vehicle owners are not interested in dedicating.
There is already a two stage oil separator built into the engine PCV system. It just isn't enough so the catch can is meant to catch the remaining oil vapors.
NIce job, but it´s completely unnecessary on the Mk7 GTI. Even over thousands of miles of use you´re not going to see a single drop there (I would avoid bypass systems as the stock system works beautifully)
Not with is38 lol
It would've been easier to remove that coil on the 4th cylinder...
This can potentially give you some more space. We opted not to but other might want to consider this. Thanks for the feedback.
Deutsche Auto Parts would this pretty much be the same way you'd install the apr catch can? can't find any other videos or install info. love your vids tho! totally give me the confidence to do some things myself and save tons ! 👍
this does not work for golf 6?
No but what engine do you have in your Golf 6?
tsi 1.4 90kw
gerard wibbens We cant offer you anything for that engine as it is a non US market car
Who taught you how to film?
You suggest people taking off clips but have literally the worst angle I’ve ever seen. 4:56
Would this install be the same for a Golf MK7?
most like
lol... i would just off ignition coil... take only 2 few mins
Dude that looks like a freaking water hose 🤣
You drop a socket extension right into your engine?...be careful and dont be sloppy
You should take off watches and jewelry
Before working bro
