In south central Los Angeles, bbq restaurants have been using soda in cakes: 7up vanilla cake is the original, but I’ve seen cherry coke cola chocolate cake, sprite lemon cake.
For brownies and chocolate cake, I usually substitute coffee for the water measurement.
