No one familiar with this channel or with Illinois wrestling expects to see Marco Spinazzola lose, especially by a major decision. He is a fabulous wrestler who, despite a suspension midway through his senior season (2023), came back to finish the year 40-3 and win the D1-152 state championship. In this match, however, he was up against a truly phenomenal and older opponent in Tanner Gerber who would graduate in 2023 with four consecutive D3 Illinois state championships at 106, 113, 126, and 132. Gerber was 47-1 his senior year and now wrestles for North Dakota State University where he will be coming off of redshirt this fall.
