    “Anyone can make good designs” - I whole heartedly disagree with this statement. I’ve worked with so many “designers” that can talk well and make the most detailed case-study but their end products look out-dated and lacking aesthetically. Making a beautiful and functional product takes more skill than we give credit for. It’s a misconception that needs to end and is the reason UI pays less than UX even though without UI, products would not even get noticed.

    • @rachelhow
      @rachelhow  Před 2 lety +6

    • @NadineUXDesigns
      @NadineUXDesigns Před rokem +4

      I'm not sure this aged well because so many people are now simply copying designs or using AI. Creativity is also discouraged in the UI field thes days because we're essentially in a post design era. It's actually frustrating, though necessary cause HCI already has so much info that there's no need to reinvent the wheel and risk profits unless you're creating some super new app. But even before all this, copying designs was considered the norm with the influx of new designers in 2020 and developers didn't consider UI as a serious field because most could do it themselves without an entirely different hire(unfortunately) so it would have paid less regardless after a few years.
      Also I think separating UX from UI (as skillsets) is a mistake and an attempt to gatekeep anything that's considered technical.
      Anyway what is meant here is that without sharp design Thinking skills, you won't solve any problems even if you are very good at visual design...so yeah, I guess it should be "anyone can copy good designs, but not everyone can solve problems".

Or would you recommend to publish several tailored portfolios with different selection of case studies for each role I want to apply for?

My best one right now is for board game store, so I guess it could arguably be e-commerce, but beyond making navigation more simple, I didn’t do that much to it.

      Hi dear! Sorry I may have missed your message somehow. Once the designs are approved, I prepare them for 'handoff' - it means I'm handing off those designs to developers.
      The handoff process could include things like making sure all components are consistent, checking for mistakes , reorganising the file to make it easier for developers to understand, hold a meeting with developers to explain the design requirements, and add little notes on the designs to let developers know which part needs animation or other specifics.

    Hi, i found your videos after i watched Chunbuns's video. i'm self doubting for quite a few months now.. still thinking whether i should study a course in Coursera meanwhile i'm afraid i would have wasting my money to taking up courses and ended up didn't get any job offered. i would say my background is 90% like yours. It just once getting older and thinking to changing a different path still thinking a lot of "WHAT IF I DIDN'T MAKE IT"...Let's be honest do you learn UX by paying any courses and any video you will recommend to us to watch by learning the whole process included wire framing and personas..would love to hear from you soon :)

      You can totally learn yourself! Everyone’s journey is different. Do what’s right for you

      Thanks for watching Cindy! Based on my experience, courses only help to a certain extent, you will still need to learn from multiple sources to be good at what you do.To be honest, I have taken zero courses in UX/UI Design. All I did was Google my problems until I find the solution. So just keep going, if you feel that a course could help you and it’s within your budget, go for it!

      @@rachelhow thank you for your reply 😊
      Yea, I've been thinking of taking a courses because I'm just afraid I had missed out any steps when I thought I had complete learning. UX is something similar with what I did in the past when I was a graphic and web designer. I always thought it just a process didn't think of it can be an occupation for that process.

      @@TumiEdun of course, but since she made a video about it so I wanted to get to know more. Not just like surface details. That's why there's a difference between customer service and customer experience. Only if you get I'm trying to say.
