  • Do you actually know the overlap rules or have you just memorized your spot on the court for every rotation?
    We cover overlap rules and go over serve receive rotations and possible changes if your passers are struggling

    I learnt about rotations but still couldn't understand the positioning of players during a match. Your explanation just solved all my confusion thank you.

    This is just rotation 1 serve receive! I remember learning rotations a few years ago and being very confused! Now I know full rotations for 4 positions! It gets easier with more experience.

    What I hate is the vagueness always used to explain this. Like the back row player can’t go in front of whomever is in front of them. So is it illegal if a back row player has 1 inch of their foot in front of their corresponding front row player? That’s how it was just worded in this video and how every vague person explains it or I does it have to be their entire body has to be in front of that player to be illegal? I didn’t even mention if it’s spatial body parts or is it just what’s in contact with the floor?

    Hello i have a question, what if the outside hitter is in the middle front where does he/she will receive the ball?

    • @ShifuP2
      @ShifuP2 Před rokem +10

      If the hitter is in the middle they are no longer an “Outside Hitter.” They are now just middle. When the ball is in play on the opposing teams side you will stay up on the net for a block. When the ball is on your side, shuffle back to the ten foot line for a hit

      @@ShifuP2thats correct but was not the question.

      Usually the front row is not involved in the serve recieving action.Sometimes just the setter also recieve from the back, in this situations, the setter either runs to the front if he/she did not pass the ball and plays the regular set or they actually need to recieve the ball, in this case sometimes the libero, sometimes the middle in the front or the Opposite Hitter takes on that second ball for setting of that first ball of the rallye.
      What normally happens is that just the 3 Backrow players are involved in getting the serve and the Setter on 2 is staying is where he/she is, Middle and Outside Hitter changes positions for the attack.

      @@joshspeed8404You might do that if you're playing just for fun. Any serious team will not let the setter receive.
      Normally an outside hitter in position 3 (front-row center) will go receive in position 5 (back, left from their point of view) because after receiving they will go spike from the left.

  • @floydl8537
    @floydl8537 Před 4 měsíci +4

    That setter cannot go in front of the middle player until the ball enters their court.

      Setter did not break any overlap rules for both rotation 1 serve receive, setter did not go to the left of MB/L or in front of OH

    • @edwinazana8810
      @edwinazana8810 Před 2 měsíci

      Once the ball is released the setter can move to the center. That maybe true from the old rule.

    • @floydl8537
      @floydl8537 Před 2 měsíci +2

      That positioning wouldn't be legal under the overlap rule. Here's why:
      * **Overlap Rule and Intent:** The overlap rule isn't just about the physical location of players, but also about their **intended actions** at the moment of the serve.
      * **Setter Positioning:** The Right Back (RB) shouldn't be positioned in a way that suggests they are the primary setter. The Setter (position 1) is the designated player for setting the ball. If the RB is positioned too close to the net and clearly looks like they are ready to set, it would be considered a violation.
      * **MF's Role:** The Middle Back (MB) also plays a role in serve receive. While the Setter is the primary focus, the MB can still participate in receiving the serve, especially for short or angled serves. Having them positioned too far back hinders their ability to contribute.
      Here's how the officials might interpret the situation:
      * **Advantage to Receiving Team:** If the RB is positioned clearly in front of the MB and looks like they are the primary setter, it could be called as an illegal formation. This gives the receiving team an unfair advantage because they essentially have two potential setters confusing the opposing team's attacker.
      * **Spirit of the Rule:** The overlap rule is meant to ensure a fair and balanced court for both teams. Having the RB positioned that far forward goes against the spirit of the rule, even if they aren't technically "side-by-side" or "front-to-back" with the MB.
      **Here's the bottom line:** While there might be some slight variations in positioning depending on the specific serve, the RB shouldn't be positioned so far forward that they appear to be the primary setter. The MB should also be involved in serve receive and shouldn't be positioned too far back. A balanced formation with the Setter in the middle of the back row and both the RB and MB within a reasonable distance for receiving the serve is the ideal scenario under the overlap rule.

      @@floydl8537this is good read. Is this in the official vball rule books?
      I just don't understand what you mean by "the setter (position 1)" do you mean zone 1?
      Since theyre running 5-1, and zone one is the setters base defensive position when the setter in zone 1, 6 & 5. The ref should know there's no other setter in the team. So by the setter moving closer to the net, the setters intention is already getting ready for attacking position by getting closer to the net on a serve receive
      Maybe the right back (opposite) could move further away from the net compared to this example play. The setter could also go a bit more to the left of the RB(OPP)
      Middle back (Libero) is ready to receive the ball
