You know mate when I visited Canada on holiday in 2014 I had a run in with CBSA. I very much agree with your assessment. A law unto themselves. They gave me the 3rd degree for half an hour about if I had been in trouble with the police - i was like mate I have MOD clearance and work on nuclear decommissioning sites and I have also contracted for the crown prosecution service. I'm probably squeakier than any of you lot. Then it was if I was coming to work and could I prove if I was employed and then they searched my laptop and interrogated me about some dumb souvenir I got in Germany for a friend of mine and why were there picture of me firing guns in my phone.

Section 184 of the Criminal Code states that recording private conversations is legal as long as one of the parties involved in the call consents to the recording.
It’s called the “one party consent” exception.
That means the second person involved in the call does not have to be informed that the call is being recorded. If several people are involved in a phone call, it’s still legal for one of them to record it without informing the others.
Guys, Go right to the Federal and also Provincial Member of Parliament from where your live, explain this and how you are being railroaded. CBSA has to answer to them. DO it Now, trust me, call them right away, this is not right. Also recording a conversation is legal in Canada if your a part of the conversation.
I would start recording the calls starting now.

According to section 183.1 of the Criminal Code of Canada, you can record any call as long as at least one person in the conversation consents to the recording taking place.
things don't change much, they basically did the same to a cousin of mine 30 years ago, deported him his wife and their two year old daughter back to the U.K. . They've never returned.
If you have a lawyer he would also say that you can record calls if you feel that you may need evidence later

Best thing is when they call ask for full name, email , phone, location... I will not answer any questions unless they give me all the info.. keep a log..
Record everything. Get a lawyer. Lawyer should be able to get the whole process delayed or stopped. Best wishes of getting this resolved and staying in BC.
