I'm getting back into swimming and I appreciate such a well done, well explained video.
-maintain high straight position (a kick board can help)
-turn body as each stroke
-strong kick = fast
-extend ankles , slightly bend knee then straighten while kicking up and point toes
-kick from hips rather knee
-fins can be used for leg strength
-hand roatated outwards (pinkie in water first)
-keep elbow high then push to side of body
BACKSTROKE
How do you stay going straight? I find myself drifting to on side of the lane or the other.
It just comes with the practice I guess. Try to extend your arms as far forward, not to the sides.
I think swimming straight when you are backstroking depends on where you look at while swimming. Follow a straight line in the ceiling with your eyes and you will swim straight.
Some tips to keep you straight.
1. Good form/technique. So head in neutral position into the water, avoiding bending your head forward and upwards towards where you have been. Look up to ceiling or sky.
2. Arms should be moving parallel to each other like train tracks in a windmill pattern/movement. "Reaching up for the sky with arms each time an arm reaches 12 o'clock. Work towards rotation of body and hips as you stroke and kick. Not too much rotation or too little. Aim for streamlining as much as possible.
3. Legs: As said in video, but will add be sure to keep legs together in line with hips/shoulders. Kick from hips not knees. Avoiding too much bending at knees as said in video. Bicycle kicking or/and having legs moving not in good rhythym with each other makes legs sink and keeps you from a good streamline position.
4. Start off learning backstroke by pushing off the wall to give you some inertia/energy to make the stroke easier at first. And start learning in shallow end of pool.
Once you get a good feel for the stroke, than practice getting underway from a position floating atop the water (starfish position on your back). This will help you get under way in deep open water or in places with no pool wall or pool bottom to push off from.
Start off slowly and then build up speed. And watch videos on youtube. Backstroke is fun once you "get it".
Hope these tips help.
A good demo video for what is called arms over reaching in backstroke.
my favorite way of swimming
That's how it's done!!! Very helpful
Thanks for sharing. That's awesome!
it is very useful and thanks for teaching in easy way
Very helpful ! thank you so much
Thank you very much for these vids,i think they are really helpful
to people who want to swim, and don't know how to do it properly, like me.
Yeah. Swimming is amazing and useful!! 😁learning the basics!!just subscribed... 😃
im in a swimming contest tomorrow at school and was assigned on the backstrokes. this help me a lot!
GREAT! I like to swim like him 🙆
thx for this video very informative
Now I can swim very good thanks to this vid!
👍
Thx alot . Btw - I love Speedo !
Well Done guys, it helped me allot.
Does nobody see how red his face is?
If you’re truly a swimmer you will know the struggle of forgetting to put sun screen at swim meets it’s ugly
Very smooth 😍
Thanks!
0:50 so cool
Edit: Two months later I learned to swim really well and I’m on a swim team now because I wold practice everyday
Yay that's awesome! I hope you're enjoying the sport, I've been swimming competitively since I was 5 (I'm 14 now) and I love it!!
How to stay straight: (Hope this helps, I am a young competitive swimmer.)
Also, you need to make sure that you are rotating evenly on both sides. Kick evenly throughout your stroke. As other people said, reach your arms the same length apart, like 1 and 11 about I think. Also, for the underwater pulling part, make sure you are doing it consistently at the same power rate. Try watching Olympic swimmers to see how they do this. I used to have problems with that, then I did a rotation drill. Backstroke is my best and favorite stroke out of the four.
(Really late, but hope other people can use this.)
Also forgot to add this, keep your head still. You can do this by doing a cup on head drill. (Get like a plastic cup and fill it with pool water, place it on your forehead and try not to drop the cup into the water.)
I'm a competitive swimmer too (I'm 14 and have been swimming since I was 5). The cup really does help, even if it seems stupid. Backstroke is my best stroke, but some of my friends really struggle with it, and keeping your head still is super important. But yeah, make sure your kick is strong too and it helps with the balance.
love it
gonna try this tomorrow
I LIKE IT
Man that swimmers technique is just beautiful.
อธิบายได้กระชับชัดเจน
Best stroke of all
Thanks
good video
tysm
Very good
I always changed from lane 1 to lane 3 ._.
Guess my fap arm is stronger
I'm left handed. I think having to do so much right handed helps keep me in line. This made me rofl. ;)
Zack Stark i was worse than that. but i started to set a mark so i can keep myself in the same lane. set a mark which you can see it while you are swimming and try to be align with it. after some time your body would be automatically aligned to your swimming lane even when you don't check the mark.

nice
great
I learned swimming by myself, so I am here to make sure I do it correctly!!
this is a good teacher talking
Nice
I feel like my swimming lessons as a kid didn’t teach me anything at all
They were just to teach you the basics and to give you a chance in any event that you may need to swim. It wasn’t on a competitive level
I suck at swimming! But this video helped me :)
very thankful tips
You know it’s bad when the swimming carnivals in 2 days and your watching these
wander what recovering phase is .
Hi can you tell me what Finger paddles are they? I have small hands they look perfect for me.
Nice video. I'm able to swim a decent freestyle and breaststroke I believe but my backstroke I tend to curve to one side and kind of disappointing; on the flip turn, I tried doing that many times and ended up hitting my hit on the floor, wall and swallowing some water so I have stopped for the meantime.
You Can do both
They do this kind of vid on every stroke😀
pozdrawiam z lekcji online😁
I make this my weakest because I keep worrying about me hitting my head in the wall.
Kevin Jarrell omg same, I end up underestimating it and standing up in the deep end
good
I'm not sure about movement of hand in the water. enter with little finger n t not bending elbows n hand go too down .n my mind is not cleared im confused about the hand movement in the water so if ur checking comment section please put ur opinion about that? And how much time does it take to build a stamina like a champion? Gym is more beneficial or running to achieve speed In swimming? As I know a little being in shapes n techniques helps to our speed . So what's ur opinion about stamina its I think related to our lung capacity n as well our muscles strength n habit ! I need ur opinion through out this all I shared!
My arms starts to ache after half way
For me it's only my legs. My legs start to ache like there are bricks on them but my arms are like "OH YEAH LETS GO BRUH COME ONE BRUH IM DOING AMAZING WERE AWESOME!!" But isn't the case with the legs...
Simon Riley my legs were week and were sinking. I grabbed a pair of power fins (not diving fins). i used the fins and i would say my legs have become much better but still not strong as my hands. i'm still working on my legs. it does worth if you give it a try.
CAN YOU EXPLAIN THE TECHNIQUE TO SWIM IN THE DIRECTION OF THE LEGS IN THE BACKSTROKE POSITION
*I have a swimming class for my subject in university. And I have tendonitis at my right shoulder. Can I perform this kind of stroke? Because just by seeing it, I'm already making noises as 'ouch' , 'no way'.... it hurts me....*
Got all my strokes down for the most part but I’m still trash a backstroke no matter how many drills I do, it’s so frustrating
How to prevent water from entering nose?
My swim team is learning this now lol
Backstroke is my main stroke but i find myself not being able to see hence i hit up the lane rope. Any advice.I keep my head back btw
peripheral vision wz my problem, when swimming with buoy ropes, in a lake. My left side would not line up, in freestyle I'm hitting the buoy ropes....In the pool, I can line up with the painted lanes. Is there any way you can take a glance (fast) to the side(s) or is there anything on the ceiling you can line up with. You're gonna have to spot something.....or try holding the head in a different position, cause you should be able to see. too much splash not the problem.....:)
What is dierectly
Hi, please upload Dolphin stroke as well. There are plenty tutorials out there but this presentation style is the best.
Do you want to rotate the whole body or just upper body? (Is it better to rotate hips or no hips along with the shoulders?)
theKarrotmonster i was wondering the same thing, he is rotating full body ...looks a bit scary tho , because i think no matter what i do i can only rotate my upper part tho !
You should rotate your whole body. If you're flat in the water (not rotating) then you are pushing through the water instead of swimming through it. Rotating also helps get your hands and arms in the right position to pull under your body.
Your hips should not rotate as much as the upper half of your body but there is still a slight rotation
Good I will try to see how I an doing
Thanks! Eventually maybe I won’t look like I’m drowning!
the guy in the video is not a backstroker
Well, unless you are an Olympic swimmer yourself, he looks pretty good to everyone else.
I always turned slightly to the left side. ;/
I have trouble with the arm ._.
Hi, this is Ed Accura , co-founder of the Black Swimming Association and producer of the film documentary A Film Called Blacks Can’t Swim.
I personally believe that Black Youth Culture could be what breaks the cycle of the generation-long issue with a disproportionate amount of black people NOT swimming
I would like to hear your views and comments on the 2 info videos I WON’T SWIM and THINK ABOUT IT.
Let's change the narrative.
I appreciate your support.
hi
Hi
how to stand in middle of water
Speedo should have hired Ryosuke Irie for this video.
Who is the guy on the video ? not a backstroker
How r u guys gonna teach me well when he has a crossover in his stroke?
I wanna be able to swim
اسهل سباحة عندي علي الضهر
shared at Google+ (y) :p
SIUUUUUU
Anyone knows who this guy is in all the speedofit vids?
Really? I would have thought they would feature a pro swimmer not a soccer/footballer haha
ooooh
Makoto
If I'm swimming backstroke, how am I supposed to know where the wall is to turn?
Glad I'm not the only one who was sitting through this video going: how does he know when he wants to flip? haha I used to LOVE backstroke but I'm out of practice so I can't even remember what I used to do to know where the wall is. Worst comes to worst, just don't slap your hands down into the water in case you hit the wall haha
The flags across the lanes are best though they aren't always present. The pools I go to have ribbed roofs so I count ribs religiously (banging heads on the wall is a great aid to concentration :-()
Ima crab
Hi
2019 anyone
His right arm
I was always taught to never let me feet sink when doing backstroke. But in this video the guy had his feet constantly sunken. I am confusion
Check out this Backstroke Candle challenge! czcams.com/video/pntY0r0EFP4/video.html
for a breathing technique try breathing every three strokes
i was here to understand what backstroke means in kendricks' song
SWIMMING IS HARD LOL
Water always get in my nose.
I love backstroke it is my form stroke, the reason being is cause I just find it more relaxing to swim slow or fast and I don't struggle with the breathing 👌🏻
Jake Lichtwark Seriously! Breathing is so relaxed i this type of stroke, you just gotta keep your core tight tho...
same here, I always hated front crawl with the breathing, but loved back stroke, and I don't mind breast stroke either.
Yup this is my fav stroke for the same reasons
actually I don't like that stroke for some reasons
For some reason I always get water in my mouth when trying to breath
