A Look At Six Flags New Orleans After Hurricane Katrina Forced It To Close

  • Nearly 12 years after Hurricane Katrina ravaged New Orleans, one abandoned structure still stands: the once-vibrant Six Flags amusement park. The place that once brought happiness and laughter to thousands of children and families now looks grim and dilapidated, and a shell of what it once was. When the park closed in August 2005 as the hurricane loomed, it was assumed the amusement park would re-open a few days later, but it remains shuttered. #InsideEdition

Fun fact: there was a roller coaster here that survived Katrina and still operates today. It was called Batman: The Ride and it's a standard B&M inverted coaster with the normal Batman layout. It was shipped to Six Flags Fiesta Texas a few years after the storm and now goes by the name Goliath. It survived because the station was far enough above the water line.

00:33 showing video footage of Busch Gardens Tampa - Sheikra. lol fail
Six Flags New Orleans was never a good park, hence why they never re-opened. They probably got a better deal with the insurance money than they would had they opened it again.

This park was under performing and if it wasn't for the Hurricane this park would either have been closed or sold off to someone else. Six Flags was reluctant that it happened this way.

Six Flags was going to abandon this park regardless of whether the hurricane happened or not. The previous management that bought it had gotten fired and the new management didn't want it, it was on the same path as Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom.
