It feels significantly harder than hades 1 imo
The Pact for this game must be a motherfucker
Ayy same comment
I think it feels a little harder in a few ways but is overall just a *different* type of combat. Like it does have a small degree of expectation that you've played Hades 1, but is just easy enough to allow a new player to get used to it. If I wasn't so used to playing as Zagreus in the first game, then I'd be dying way less. Those instincts aren't serving me well when the way that Melinoe moves and dashes is way slower/more forethought is required. Not to mention magic and other stuff making decisions more impactful on a build.
Perhaps once there's aspects and more player optimization later down the line it will be easier?
Spoiler
I had to play like 15+ hours to get to hades in first game, now I played like 7-8 hours and I almost defeat cronos. I think it is much easier, and I can say I am not a very talented player.
Axe is 1000% my favorite. In my opinion it is a bit harder than Hades 1 but I think it will be hard to tell until we get more experience with this game and develop a meta. We aren't used to it yet.
Plus this is still in early access. By the looks of the starting room there’s gonna be more weapons potentially, and there could be more enemies and maybe even boons by the time the full game realeases.
@@Zackattack151 probably 1 more and they still need unique aspects i think
@@Nanoqtran Yeah I didn’t realise there were more weapons last the ones I already unlocked, but yeah aspects are a good point
Axe is the only weapon that deals decent damage imo. The staff is close but still needs rng luck.
@@Phantom-kc9ly the skull is pretty good for spamming up close
the axe is A BEAST. it’s omega attack + hestia is crazy, once you get daedalus hammer to make the charge quicker you can unleash massive amounts of dmg fast
this or double strike + aphro circle to pull them in and more dmg against weak is just 😙👌
I feel like the axe omega is kind of unusable without the hammer, a bit like the spear spin in h1. Youre just way too vulnerable while charging it, unless its literally while mobs are spawning between waves
I really like using Apollo special with its omega special, it widens the radius of each slam and makes it possible to hit the strike twice on many enemies or just clear a whole room in one shot with some good positioning
@@Achridian apollo special and aphro attack is my ideal axe set up.
It might feel harder because melinoe strength build up is slower than zag but she can potentially activate a lot of cards and weapon aspects also locked behind surface ingredients which is quite a nuisance to get early. Chronos also has OTK move which Hades doesn't have
Yeah Omega builds can stack a lot higher than I anticipated. You've also got a ludicrously powerful cast, even the free version is in some ways stronger than some calls.
You can also have the wheel juicing you up for a stage or so and just rip omegas over and over
I feel Hades 2 is WAY harder. I think foes have more sweeping/wide attacks which are tougher to dodge. Plus Melinoe feels like she has significantly less health. I’m sure some of it is because I’m used to later-game in 1, but it’s just tough, I’ve been struggling to consistently reach Scylla.
It's funny you mention this as i've had a much easier time to consistently get to 150-200 health in this game compared to the first, yet it also feels like it doesn't matter as much as in the first.
brooo one of the axe aspects turns it into a scythe it’s too sick😭
I need this gonna be Maka from soul eater
Having beaten all the hell bosses I feel like the game is harder than hades 1 at the moment but mostly because the game balance is quite stilted right now. Your growth curve in hades 1 (i.e. how strong you could get between runs) was okay, but it's a little too grindy in hades 2 as you won't even get the "mirror upgrades" till much later and you have to grind so many resources to level the arcana table up. Add to that how the "minor find" rewards seem more common and you almost need a near complete set of core boons+the omega boons of each applicable core boon, and some cracked synergy in between there to really start feeling like you aren't just tickling the opponent's HP (which seemed inflated to me till yesterday where I finally got 2 good builds going) and a pretty sweeping lack of tier 2s (you must "build" synergies between gods rn) and you have a game that's both incomplete (early access is still early access) and just has to be approached in a totally different way to hades 1, making it way harder but in a half unintended way. Imo the bosses are definitely harder than hades 1 that is for certain
What also makes it feel a lot slower than Hades 1 is that in 1 you would get forced boons for your slots pretty quickly. My last run in 2 today, I got my main attack boon in the shop before the final boss. And I took like 10 boons on the way there. I feel like I have situations like those quite often where I am pretty far into a run and have only 1 or 2 of my 4 main slots filled with boons.
@@xXBenutzer235Xx this stops being a problem late game but I agree, I've arrived to chronos a handful of times with missing core boons
this game feels so much harder than the original I have 12 hours already and I still struggle with the first two bosses (still haven't beaten the 3rd)
Interesting
I managed to get to Chronos 2 times in 8 hours but lost on phase 2. The enemies in this game are just way tankier.
@@Kiunnnn Yeah I have beaten Chronos about 4 or 5 times and also gotten to the end of the surface as well in two days of playing. I believe that the "difficulty" comes from either weak boons/weapons or the enemies having higher HP pools. Ranged is objectively just so much stronger than melee with how the dash system works.
@@Kiunnnn yeah ive had to play a lot more passive.
It definitely feels harder right now! I've gotten to Chronos 4 times and only beaten him once not long ago. I think I'm getting used to his attacks, though sometimes he still catches me off guard.
I made it to the end with the axe. Got the big chop hammer with Apollo as my attack boon and demeter on my cast to hold them down. Didnt win cause of f***in Eris but I did get about 1/4 into the final fight. Got 2 shot cause even with dmg reduction the boss is doing like 70 dmg per hit. Wont spoil anything else.
I mean thanks for no spoilers but isnt it gonna be chronos hmmmm now im interested
Okay, I was gonna wait until full release, but every time you upload a video it just looks so utterly fun and charming... I can't even watch because I don't want to spoil myself too much, but I don't think I'll be able to hold out...
go, buy and play the game my friend, stop edging your desire to experience it
At the end the "bars" aka roman numerals are a count down to the final boss.
Because I dont think I saw you use it even once: The Axe's special, where it spins around, blocks like the shield. Not indefinitely because of the omega, and not so wide, but you can still use it to, say, delete the chasing music note projectiles in the Siren's fight. It takes timing but helps offset the "slowness" and shorter range of the axe somewhat.
im really curious to learn more about eris' intentions and alignments. she makes your runs harder but she almost looks like she doesn't actually want to do it
She definitely seems like she wants to do it. She very clearly enjoys messing with Melinoe on her journey.
Dont want to spoil too much but later on it seems to become quite clear that she actually intends to fuck you over.
*SPOILER*
she's also the boss on the surface run, she's def not an ally, i got smoked by her rail gun fist time lol
@@NemusD I'm glad I already fought her there before reading this comment. I wouldn't post this spoiler this early without a warning.
@@Foofen. fair, already edited.
Looks like the scorch did not get purged when she split. Hecate took the damage immediately from her health bar.
I think it's harder than Hades 1 so far. Boons feel kind of weak and thus things take a lot of time too kill yet still hit quite hard. Builds feel quite sad most of the time, I'm guessing this will improve as boons are added / altered.
After I found out that you can dash after you charge for a bit to start the Omega attack, the axe handled very smoothly.
The "drag"Melinoe does reminds me of how Red drags the sword in Transistor. edit: Chat answers it within seconds of me posting the comment xD
A bit different since Mel drags it with her left hand turning towards her body, to anticipate a swing, while Red turns her left hand away, holding it like a microphone and since she mostly props it up instead of using it as a weapon.
Cannot wait for today's runs to be shown off for the Tubers :D
I gotta start thinking of good builds because I'm not nearly as good as this game in general as you are xD
Spinny axe with the speedup and aphro is so fun
I got to the end and 2/3 of the way through his health only once. And it was immediately after losing to the Sirens every time. I went from not being able to beat them, to almost endgame and I was so sad I lost. Godlike duo boon combo. Hestia cast, Poseidon twin blades special, Apollo magic regen, and a fun duo between P and H. It rocked.
Hi haelian, im loving the new hades II vids. There is a way to dash through your omega (whirlwind) attack. you have to continually press own the attack button whilst spinning. Then dash whilst still holding attack.
The way the music slows down when you use that hex is so rad.
This seems significantly harder then Hades I
If it feels harder, it’s because the meta progression system feels restrictive and difficult to work with early game. I wish they just brought back the mirror.
Your cast can temporarily trap stuff so when that screaming mob comes after you, remember to press Q.
58:36 IIII is usually expressed as 4 instead of IV on clock faces to distinguish it from VI
what's weirder is using Roman Numerals in a Greek setting, but these folks can literally receive things from the future. so whatever
I am new to hades 1 and 2 and have equal time in each of them. with about 30 hours in each of them. I think Hades 1 is harder because hades 2 enemies and bosses are more fair. I think the visual queues and telegraphed attacks are easier to recognize in 2. In hades 1 I often died and had no idea what killed me.
I struggled at first, but after like 20 runs you figure it out. I've now made it to Cronos basically every run with any weapon. You just got to know that this is NOT Hades 1 where you basically smash and dash. You must use your Special + Cast or Attack + Cast depending on the weapon, at all times.
Grampy is a very good kitty.
this axe is insane
the axe is so fucking cool they cooked
feels like what aspect of arthur should've always been
The fight with Sirens reminds me of the 1st boss from Transistor - Sybil. Lots of singing during both fights.
Hell Splitter, Executioner's Chop, Marauder's Slash. Heroic Nova Strike (80% damage), Epic Perfect Image, Extra Dose.
This is one of Chaos' suggested axe setups from the Pitch-Black Stone. I tried to emulate it, didn't quite get anything-and STILL absolutely smashed Chronos in both phases.
Only having one dodge has made this feel a bit tougher even though my skill carried over.
Axe looks like it’s is spin to win! I love that. The weapons look super interesting in Hades 2.
Game is definitely more challenging imo, but based on my experience( I have too many hours for this game so far, don't ask) I think the difficulty stems from a few issues I've noticed:
1.) Melee is MUCH more punishing compared to range due to dash/sprint being clunky compared to Hades 1 dashing and what seems like overall enemy design philosophy.
2.) Only a few gods have good boons/combos/builds(Poseidon special cast with witch staff is INSANE compared to melee weapon power levels, sister blades with Hestia attack/Poseidon special/Steam duo boon is pretty good)
3.) Based on my experience, witch staff and sister blades are the only viable weapons. Skull and torch feel BAD to use(especially torch, horrendously bad). Axe is mediocre but I might try it again with one of it's aspects.
4.) Calls not being a thing anymore is disappointing and takes a lot of power/flexibility away. I've only used Selene for her healing call to make up for bad mistakes or to use her star path to gain free passive damage from NOT using her call.
5.) I'm using some upgraded weapons/aspects and they still feel pretty underwhelming fighting bosses. I do not know if this comes from boons/weapons being overall weak or bosses having too much health.
Either way: I'm still having a lot of fun playing this game and I know SuperGiant will address all balance issues.
Have you tried Persephone Skull? That thing is nuts
@@grubbygeorge2117 Is that the one that explodes upon impact? I haven't tried that one just yet but I'll give it a go!
Man everyone really have different play styles. The witch staff feels the worse to me. The axe is love & got to the end boss first. Then the blades & recently the skull. Zues on the skull is pretty fun. Also i find skull easiest & sttongest to use. Just throw skulls then omega special to them to pick it up
@@cliffyjohnson2129 I just got to the final boss with Axe. I think it has potential but I'm still looking for a good boon set to run for it.
3:36 water..earth..fire..air..long ago the 4 nations lived together in harmony then, everything changed when the fire nation attacked, onyl the avatar master of all 4 elements could stop them, but when the world needed him most he vanished, a 100 years passed and my brother and i discovered the new avatar, an airbender named aang and although his airbending skills are great hes still has alot to learn before hes ready to save anyone but i belive aang can save the world .....
Personally, I think Scorch is a great boon with the whirlwind. That being said, I like DoT effects, and that boon allowed you to rack up serious DoT.
Transistor is a hidden gem.. I loved it and still play it
34:50 a most appropriate reaction 🤣😂🤣😂
loving this game! Good stuff!
Axe is everyone’s favorite, especially with Apollo on main attack
Aphro main attack is amazing too, since it boosts damage to nearby enemies by like 3x if you get enough poms
I had a legendary hestia boon last night.. it just increased the scorch damage from all your boons.. In that same run I had a duo boon from Aphrodite and Poseidon it was from Aphrodite attack with Poseidon Special.
Axe + Demeter is OP.
Freeze attack to lock foes + omega bonus.
Hera's attack boon goes crazy hard on Axe for omega attacks for groups of enemies, but it struggles a little vs bosses
I've been to Cerberus twice now, and I have YET to see Eris! Crazy there's an entire character someone terrible at the game like me may not meet.
I first thought Eris showed up for everyone the first time they entered an area, since I’ve gotten her after every boss once. Except fourth area. Found out today she shows up to slow people down if they’re making it to certain areas “too fast.” She’s shown up my past three runs in the final area (2 of which where I happened to get to the boss and got destroyed). Honestly.. consider yourself lucky lmao, I wouldn’t mind it if it was just the first time you saw a new area, but currently it feels excessive and unnecessary when the player is already experiencing a new area and enemies. I can only see it being fun for people seeking a much harder challenge
The only part that feels a lot harder is Tartarus I feel like. If you dont have your build solidly online by then, that area is pure agony. But other than that I feel like the games are rather similar in difficulty.
Melinoë’s axe dragging is a callback to the way Red drags her sword in Supergiant’s second game, Transistor.
That cat is amazing
Got Hades 2 yesterday and i have 0 ragrets. Im hyped for the weapon aspects.
Apollo special goes crazy on the axe, got me to Chronos for the first time!
I also have played Hades 1 so much that I can't tell which one is harder,
I remember reaching the final boss in 1 much later than in 2, but the final boss wasn't even in the game from early access in 1 and it is in the game in 2, so that might be it
@Haelian how complete is Hades 2 in this early access? do you know if saves will reset once the game is out of early? considering if i should get in on the action
Going downstairs (chronos route) is finished by gameplay, you can fight the final boss (story ofc isn't complete) is 4 biomes, idk how long the other route is rn but is not finished (maybe 2 biomes?)
Also progress will carry over to 1.0
There is a ton of content, easily worth the price. Saves typically carry over to 1.0, that's what happened in Hades 1.
axe with aphrodite and demeter buffing the attack went pretty smooth. got the skylla first try with that
I got to chronos by try 10 but he absolutely clowned on me. This definitely feels different and there's some weapon imbalance for sure. Also the hammers range from almost insignificant to super good. The run I got to Chronos with I had the dual dags and a special synergy on the hammers (the return special and the charged special). But it's early days so who knows.
I've gotten to the end of Tartarus 3 times now, this game gets crazy hard. But holy crap, the power level of this game feels so huge, for enemies and for Mel
The axe is my favorite so far, the other weapons i feel them a lil bit clunky.
I got a god build with axe and made it to the 4th boss with the debuff after killing the 3rd boss for the first time. +range and damage, + speed when spinning, reduce charge time on spin, +focus when standing in AOE, use attack and special while spinning. Infinite focus spin to win. It felt significantly stronger than any other build I played.
I like the way it’s slightly more complicated but ultimately very similar to Hades 1
Axe drag really came from Transistor!!!
Using IIII instead of IV is a jeweler's technique, you see that on some clocks and watches still.
People are forgetting how hard Hades 1 was in early access. As someone who tested the previous since the beginning, it was definitely a backhand to the face and overtime they adjusted the difficulty curve. I will say the starting hp of Melinoe is too low though.
I like Apollo on the axe, makes whirlwind big and sound like lasers. This game rocks
Definitely way harder in the beginning but I just unlocked arcana upgrades and really see the potential for getting super buffed.
Enemies are definitely rough but once you get 20 grasp it’s pretty standard.
The resource farming is awesome. I kinda felt overwhelmed at first but once areas opened up more it’s gotten fun to hunt for specific things :)
That being said I got a hammer upgrade for the axe and thought it would be a fun version of the sword chop upgrade but it was so slow and made my attack hard to do right from the bat 😭😭
the drag is from transistor
34:01 it's me, I'm some people
I find the axe to be the only weapon that feels good to use, it's also so strong that there is no point to using any of the other weapons.
I think Eris stays until you break the wards to the surface
Nah she shows up if you get to biomes "too early" (i.e. she shows up at the start of biome 2 if you get there in the first 3 attempts).
Something I just noticed is that they skip intervals of 5 in the arcana cards. Maybe you can unlock them later?
I really like the art work for the band 😊
the boons are a lot weaker compared to 1, that and the input delay is kinda wild too
I have experienced no input delay. There's a lot more meta progression to go at this point in my playthrough, the broken builds are coming.
@Haelian I think the input delay is more prominent and/or noticeable on KB&M for some reason. Don't notice it at all on controller somehow
@@apqo39cololdfjk if there's an input delay on kbm it sucks and they should fix it but playing Hades with kbm is wild sorry 💀
I've been playing both h1 and h2 witg kb and mouse, i don't think there is a noticable input delay. You might still be used to zag dash, mel has a few more windup frames and less free attack cancels. @@apqo39cololdfjk
@@gustsword6588 lol fair, I use both and I can't decide which I prefer. Movement is significantly better on controller no doubt
got to cronos in 15 tries. but i get rolled everytime. some mobs are very annoying and i feel like you dont get enough damage boons which makes the bosses bullet sponges. the first 2 zones are pretty similar to the first game. also not a big fan of hex unless its the healing one.
That's some angry noodle eating 😂
I've made some good builds with the axe so far. I had a charge attack build that demolished everything up to final boss where it became useless. Boss never gave me time to charge that up :/. Could do 1500 when I got a full charge off though.
Does 2x dashing + divine dash still exist?
Only player a few hours today but man, feels like they neutered my boy Zeus.
0:55 the titan of chonkyness is in the game also
i've played almost 20 hours of the game and have only found Eres in the last like 5 hours of play in the house (and in a spoiler spot, no one spoil it in the replied ikik) and i havent ever been cursed *once* i have no idea what causes that.
I used to play hades 1, but then my laptop began to get lag spikes and it’s just unplayable now - I wonder if there’s any way to fix that these days. I really want to try hades 2 though 😭
So far some boons seem broken and others seem really underpowered. Looking forward to watching the balance develop as we get closer to full release.
As someone who has reached Chronos, I can definitively say that Hades II is harder
SPOILER IN READ MORE
Chronos phase 2 has a repeating instant-kill move
axe is so cool, loving it with apollo too, would've had a pretty easy win 11th run if i didnt ruin it with a daedelus hammer
I miss my double dash :'(
The main reason why it may feel more difficult is also because of the sprint system and not having 2 dashes to spam and dodge all
Imo Hades 2 is harder. Hades 1 I completed a run on like attempt 15. Hades 2 I’m on attempt 26 finished boss 2 but I’m COOKED headed into the third biome (had to pause for DnD).
Anyone got good build suggestions for the non-axe weapons? everything I try feels very potatoey by the time I get to the infernal beast
I got a good one coming soon, Sister Blades + Hook Knives hammer.
@@Haelian good shit, knew I could count on you my guy
Find it way easier than the original. Got to chronos after around 8 runs.
I managed to reach Chronos for the first time on my last run and got myself beat up. (I did it with the sister blades with aphro on attack paired with extra dose)
And my axe!
Its harder, but only because there is so many gods and encounter in this game. Getting the op build you want is significantly harder. I hope that they will give option to ban some god's blessing, so the option is minimalized
that axe dragging reminds me of Tryndamere from League of Legends @Haelian
Definitely seems harder than the first after 12 hours.
The first three bosses I've gotten used to now and don't cause me too much trouble, especially after Eris goes away (seriously what's with that), but I've gotten to the final boss 4 times now and it's rough. My builds for whatever reason just don't feel strong enough no matter what I do. I've had some that feel better than others but overall it feels like I'm never ready for the final boss.
It is early access so maybe the weapons need some tuning or some of these boons need a look over. Most of the attack/special boons don't feel like they cause much of an impact. I mostly build a strong omega cast or omega attack. Those are the ones I've had the most success with.
Another thing that might make it feel harder is how long it can take to unlock stuff. So many resources, plants, gifts, seeds. There's a lot to gather and pay attention to.
Spam and cheese is one of the most satisfying attributes to have in games like this (if not boring) :)
Am I the only one worried about the weapon aspects in the sequel? I don'y know, as far as the EA goes the weapon aspects look much less unique than in the predecessor, could someone who has already tested them all out confirm that?
Are they going to add stuff to the EA over time, or are they just going to wait until the full release?
I'm on my 13th run, and have made it to Chronos 2x, haven't beat him yet. As of now I'd say it's harder, but that might change when I can craft builds better.
Don't feel bad about failing the shade game the first time. I've tried it on three different shades and still can't figure out what it wants me to do
Hold the trigger it wants you to hold, or hold both, let go when the symbol goes away
Lol
Hestia is one of the best I can figure for spin
Now we need a mod to have Eris in the first game.
I'm kidding
I havent been able to get past hecate with axe, only weapon I'm doing decently with is the sister blades
