  • In the 6th Assessment report, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reported that a 1.1°C global-scale warming has been recorded relative to pre-industrial conditions. In the past year, mean global temperatures have exceeded 1.5°C above post industrial levels. These numbers are very significant to climate scientists and activists, but are difficult to tangibly imagine. In Johannesburg, we have a diurnal temperature range of often more than 15°C, and day-to-day our maximum air temperatures could differ by as much as 10°C. The signs of this long-term and much smaller magnitude climatic change are not tangibly felt, but rather experienced through the changes induced in our climate and natural systems. Our tropical cyclones are becoming more severe, and their locations of landfall have started to change. Jacarandas are flowering in September, when at the start of the 1900s they flowered in November. Our white butterflies are migrating through Johannesburg in December, when previously this occurred in late January. In this talk, Prof Jennifer explores the biometeorological fingerprints of this post-industrial warming that help us to understand the scale, pace and severity of climate change.

Congratulations Gen Gen. Excellent. It is an honour to see young climatologist. May i kindly find out how did you started this amazing research? What was inspiring you to take this amazing decision. When was the first meeting of Global warming? What are uncertain on global warming phenomenon.
