  • Fabric Boot Camp is an intensive two day course designed to immerse you in the techniques you will need to successfully cover, repair or restore your fabric covered aircraft. The training is primarily hands on using the most widely used fabric covering method - the PolyFiber System.
Day one will cover the essentials of fabric covering and lead you to hands on covering a wing surface from surface prep to fabric installation, shrinking, initial coatings and rib stitching. A special evening program will include a private behind the scenes tour of the EAA Aviation Museum and Kermit Weeks Aircraft Hangar with emphasis on studying various fabric aircraft on display and evaluating techniques used to cover these aircraft.
Day two builds on the first day’s activities with a continuation of the wing surface project. More practice with rib stitching and other methods of mechanical attachment is practiced. Finishing the surfaces with various dressings, tapes and details will be practiced. After lunch an extensive discussion on final coating and painting will be presented along with hands on practice painting with the materials used. Later in the day we’ll discuss special details of fuselage and tail surface covering as well as repair and rejuvenation methods.
This special two day session will round out with a final discussion, evaluation of student techniques and summary of the course.
Each day lunch and dinner will be provided to course participants
Every participant will receive a copy of the Poly Fiber Fabric Covering Manual and a Poly Fiber Fabric Covering DVD
A Completion Certificate will be awarded at the conclusion of the course
The Fabric Covering Boot Camp differs from our regular SportAir Fabric covering course in that we will spend much more time and hands on learning and practicing the various techniques used in fabric covering. In addition, we will incorporate a hands on session with spray painting techniques which are not normally covered. A special tour of the EAA Aviation Museum and Maintenance facility with enhance your new fabric covering skills as we evaluate various fabric aircraft and the techniques used to cover them.
