Man of Steel: The Best Superman Movie?

- There's been a lot of drama surrounding Henry Cavill's tenure as Superman. Too much. In 2013, Zack Snyder's Man of Steel premiered to excellent box office, and fans loved Cavill as the new Superman. To them, he was the best of both worlds, as he had brought some of the same heart to the role that Christopher Reeve did in the Richard Donner movies but also did enough of his own thing that it wasn't a full-scale homage. This was a common criticism levelled at Brandon Routh when he played the role in Superman Returns. Yet, some fans took issue with director Zack Snyder's darker take on the Superman mythology. The film ended with a polarizing climax that saw most of Metropolis destroyed during a battle between Superman and Michael Shannon's General Zod.
Of course, the divide between fans grew exponentially following the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, to the extent that Zack Snyder's Justice League was taken away from him, reshot and released in a shockingly revised version by Joss Whedon that almost ended the DC Universe on the big screen. In the end, Cavill, despite almost reprising the role following a cameo in Black Adam, would find his run as Superman truncated.
In this episode of DC Revisited, we reexamine the movie that started it all, Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. Does the film hold up ten years later, and did Henry Cavill ever truly get his due as Superman? As host/editor/writer Tyler Nichols explains, this was a role Cavill was seemingly born to play, with him having already come close to playing the part in a version of the character depicted in the abandoned project Superman: Flyby by J.J. Abrams. We examine Man of Steel's reception and enduring legacy, with Michael Shannon's General Zod and Antje Traue's Faora-Ul set to return as antagonists in the upcoming, much-hyped DC-reset movie, The Flash.
Do you think Man of Steel is, arguably, the best Superman movie? Let us know in the comments.

A great movie, I like it even with It's flaws, it would have been nice to see a Man of steel 2 movie and more of Henry Cavill as Superman
barely had any flaws
Only flaws were the romance and Clark saying something as unoriginal as "You're a monster, Zod, and I'm going to stop you." instead of something more unique as "I'm sorry you will never see humanity the way I do, and why they deserve to be saved."
@@Powerhaus88that's the same shit that animes pull when they try to be deep. Its too blunt.
ye It was a darker take on superman and even if some of the ideas weren't executed properly, it was still a successful movie. If it was a separate universe just about superman, they could've made a trilogy of films similar to the venom trilogy.
Man of Steel feels like Superman if it happened in our world, realistic and gritty. Best DCEU film, and 10 years later, nothing has come close with the movies that have come out since.
Amen!
Seemed a little choppy. Just a little
I loved Snydercut JL but I didnt enjoy MoS at all. Like even one scene. Weird.
Sad how wrong you are, except is is the best dcu movie but that does not say much, I rate wonderwoman 1 higher the rest were horrible though, problem with man of steel is they get the superman bit wrong
The original Superman is decent at best. People can’t handle change
The score from Hans Zimmer is pure 🔥🔥🔥
AMAZING!!!! I LOVE IT!!!
It could be argued that the legacy of this film is as secure as it is because people keep listening to the score. At least thats the case with me. I remember it more fondly, as better than it is, because of the music.
Zimmer is like that, though. Inception and Dune are also amazing scores.
Really was it sorry it's no john williams iconic score Hans Zimmer score falls flat big time
@@bioshock6935 no way. John Williams is only iconic for nostalgia. Hans Zimmer captures how hopeful and powerful Superman can be
I grew up with Reeves superman and I’ll always love the first 2. But Man of Steel is def my favorite Superman film.
Me too..I'm 44 yrs old so Reeves WAS my favorite Superman..But Cavill knocked it out the park and I don't think nobody will top him..
They cast these roles perfectly.
I loved so much about it. Some of my favorite parts:
- All the young Clark scenes.
- All the Kent family scenes.
- The oil rig rescue.
- The homage to Superman 2 with the bar fight.
- The first Flight scene.
- The Smallville brawl.
- the final scenes joining The Daily Planet.
- And of course, the amazing score.
I loved Faoura-Ul.👍🏾
@@kenb2671Her fight scenes were epic. Her character needs to appear in other movies or she needs her own spin-off.
Couldn’t agree more
It was so dumb with the dog rescue though.
@@kenb2671 she was a 21st Century knock off of Ursa
I loved it then... love it just the same if not more. Also fiora was definitely memorable! Score was perfect!
Fiaora kicked SUPES's butt in the IHOP scene !!! EASILY. LOL. A Good Death is it's own Reward
This movie may have its flaws but over the last decade I think it's beginning to be a classic just like the previous ones.
And the first flight scene showing Superman discovering, mastering and literally enjoying his flying powers is really something I re-watch regularly and it has one of the best movie soundtracks too.
Exactly. No film is 100% perfect and it won’t please everyone, but it amazes me how over half a billion is considered a “flop”.
It really just has one major flaw their really isn’t any Clark but besides that it’s my favorite Superman movie

WB wasted the opportunity to make 2 more Man of Steels. Can’t see past their nose.
Was waiting for
Man of Tomorrow
Personally I though that his killing Zodd helped cement his reason for never killing again. It was the the most difficult choice he had to make after KC made the choice for him not save him to protect his identity
Except it was never discussed before or after. What are the implications of that? He easily decides to kill Doomsday. Is he not a living thing? Even Goyer accepts they didn't put some Jonathan Kent's scenes where he talks about killing to survive.
Yup, it was tragic irony; he had to chose between killing the last Kryptonian other than himself, or letting his adopted planet die.
He chose wisely.
@@OsSas3 what thebfuck? doomsday is fucking mindless and just pure monster. No one would feel guilt if doomsday dies. It’s the same as batman killing parademons.
I keep seeing people say that. But... why? Why does he have to kill someone to decide that he shouldn't kill people? Most people come to that conclusion without killing anyone first.
Killing and killing humans is different for superman. It makes sense for him to kill zod or doomsday, but lex luthor nahh
Zimmer's score is one of the best things about Man of Steel. I don't miss the Williams score at all, as great and iconic as it is.
It's cool that Hans Zimmer has done scores/ themes for Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman.
HERESY! 😂 I kid. But I also enjoy Zimmer’s score. It is very sympathetic and also riveting.
Completely agree. The idea of including things of the past for no other reason than nostalgia would have been a shame
Totally!! Zimmer's score is gorgeous
Didn't Junkie XL do some? War Here is still my fav track.
If you guys do a video on Justice League it should be a two part story, one on the Josstice League cut and the Snyder cut.
They're both shit.
Snyder's vision is slightly less shit. Slightly. And thats only because there's less material cut out so it actually has a story that somewhat makes sense.
@Russell bruh lol. I respect your opinion on the zack snyder film. But I loved the zack snyder version. Maybe its because it's what i wanted in the universe. But yeah joss's version was shit. I remember going and i was just sad. Not angry or just meh. Just sad.

Henry Cavil's superman to me has more of maturity, physical and relatability than Christopher's Superman. Man of Steel in my opinion is the greatest Superman ever made not to take away from the incredible depiction by Christopher and awesome script of original Superman, MoS to me is simply on another level in turns of different take on Superman in more of modern take, storytelling, emotional connections, Zack Snyder's amazing action sequences, original scores, visual and inspiration for hopes representing by Man of Steel.
Man of steel magnified how selfless is like by some of the characters throughout its storytelling mark the purpose and belief come to made what Superman is becoming and about. Man of Steel had successfully transform the typical superman feel into more of contemporary and fill with more of meaning and purpose for the character!
Oh, Michael Shannon's villain role in general Zod was fantastic as well and the final battle scene where Superman has to make the toughest choice of his life to kill the only other Kryptonian left in the universe in order to save vulnerable human family stamp his no kill mentality. Imagine a man with his super power but has no concern for killing...that is what make superman the greatest superhero, he realized that he can easily kill anyone in the universe, but he has the ultimate choice to NOT DO SO! That is what Man of Steel my greatest pick for all Superman movies, the true purpose of superman was beautifully shown throughout the movie.
Antje Trau not as memorable???? Are u freakin nuts?! She was one of the best in the film!
Faora was such formidable menacing villain too.
I remember the first time I saw this. When I saw the part where Zod communicated with the whole world at the same time tripped me out.
I don't understand why people still think Superman's responsible for the damage in Metropolis.
Those were all Marvel shills trying to bring the movie down.
Incredible movie. Perry and the girl trapped in the rubble at the end genuinely felt very hopeless and it was very intense
The opening on Kryton is the best bit of the whole movie.
😎Saw it in the theatres and everyone enjoyed it. Love the splitting scene image of Reeve and Caville👍
When Cavill was revealed in black adam my entire theater screamed in joy
I caught the first showing opening day. An hour in my eyes started watering like crazy and I realized it was because I hadn't blinked the entire time. Movie was amazing, I loved it.
I just watched it again recently and definitely enjoyed it. Henry Cavill is literally the PERFECT embodiment of Superman and not having the campy tone of the first original ones was a good idea 💡. You can still have it darker, make it your own while still keeping certain things form the source . Such a travesty,he deserved 2 movies.
@@callmejacob3234 typical
The problem with Caville isn't Superman, it's Clark Kent and is why there was a lot less Clark Kent in the 3 films Superman appeared in.
He's too good looking and confident to pull off the nerdy akward Clark Kent. He's literally the same person in both lives.

@@matthewnicholas6365 Henry Cavill was great I just wish he played a real Superman the core of Superman's character is Clark Kent the struggle with being a god is not something Superman struggles with because Superman doesn't see himself as a god or an alien he sees himself as Clark Kent a good hearted farm boy who just wants to do the right thing and that's something Zack Snyder clearly doesn't understand that's why I think a different director should've made Man of Steel
it’s sad they never have this man more stand alone movies ..his superman was my favorite next to tom welling a clark kent from smallville
Wow! you just showed me in 14 mins that you didn't understand what tone Goyer/Nolan/Snyder were going for with Man of Steel or even really understand the plot and motivations of the characters...well done.
LoL I was thinking the same. And now how things are unfolding, Man Of Steel is going to go down in history as the best DC Movie ever In my view
@@jijo666 It is an awesome film! I cant wait to see what he makes of BvS he'll probably review the theatre cut with 30 mins of plot missing.
Usually a watch for me at least once a year. People arguing how many died during the fight, never made sense to me. Two "gods" battling it out would result in that damage. Not to mention Zod was going to destroy the entire population of the planet.
I thought Man Of Steel was the best Superman film yet. I loved the Christopher Reeve films when I was a kid but they do look very dated now. Henry Cavill did what Daniel Craig initially did for James Bond ie turned him into a real hard man.
Superman movies back then were the best I'm talking about the Christopher Reeve movies 😊
AGREED.Well said.
Shannon was amazing as Zod... he made him menessing and believable as a foe for Supes to interact with. Russell was a great Jor-el.
Amy Adams was also in a single episode of Smallville, back when she was young and fresh-faced.
I also loved Michael Shannon in a movie called Take Shelter... or maybe just Shelter. He was great.
I just commented on that LOL
So was the soldier who calls Clark ‘Superman’ (in S1 episode 3).
And there’s a scientist in this who played Dr Hamilton in Smallville.
@@Mwezi828 yep. The movies are rife with callbacks and cameos.
Growing and watching Superman the movie and the quote for that movie was ( You will believe that a man can fly ). Christopher Reaves was a great Superman and I never thought that I'd like to see another man in that costume. Brandon did OK with Superman Returns.
Henry came in with a really good cast to help. Mr. If you build it, he will come man himself and Mr. Are you not entertained as Kal-Els dad.
Amy Adam's did a very good job playing LoLo.
Even though I will never put a person about Christopher, I can put one man on the side of him and that's Henry. I was so happy when Henry said that he was coming back to play his role again. Then very mad when they said nope, never-ending we are going another way now.
I wanted to see Black Adam and Superman tee off together. But I guess that's not gonna happen now. Heart broken is all I can say.
When you're punched through a building, there's very little chance to prevent collateral damage. Blame Zod for that.
What about when you're the one punching? Like we clearly watch in the movie.
@@OsSas3 where did he punched Zod into the building?
@@angelofdarkness243 Two times, when Zod is climbing a building, he could easily wait for him at the top, but he clashed against him, creating more destruction than Zod by himself. The other time, when he grabs him and smash his head against a building... Jay Olivia dropped the ball in the whole sequence and Snyder just went with it.
@@OsSas3 The reason is that He was inexperienced. How wore the cape literally a few days ago. How can you expect him to think when he is inexperienced. When he never has to use his raw power or fight with anyone his entire life. And his first fight is with who! General fucking Zod who is a warrior. And Zod clearly said either you die or I do. So, You gonna expect an inexperienced Clark to just stand there in the sky and let Zod come to him like a beast. Wow! What a brain you got. The thing is you are just obsessed with Christopher Reeve Superman. Christopher Reeve wasn't comically accurate Superman. Have you ever watched animated series about how much damage has been done to the city? It is impossible for an inexperienced person like Clark to fight with a warrior Like General Zod without any collateral damage. That's why he learned from his first battle and took doomsday directly to space without causing any collateral damage during his second battle. Zack Snyder didn't even got a chance to complete his Superman story. So, how can you judge him.
@@OsSas3 Ad the two times that you are pointing out that he punched Zod into the building. He didn't even do that. It was outside of the building not into the building
I found the destruction of the city and the thoughts of civilians being killed by the fighting disturbing. Maybe I’ll never get used to it after 911.
Snyder didn't know what he was doing
I mean… even in the animated series villains and Superman alike literally get ran through buildings and destroy surrounding areas…. We actually get to see the ramifications and power that these god like beings possess.
I miss the old superhero movies that were made without sequel baiting or end credits
That’s what man of steel did. It was a stand alone film and didn’t need any of that
Man of Steel is a fantastic film. I am a huge Superman fan and the movie was everything I always wanted to see in a live-action Superman film. It got my friends who always thought Superman was boring, interested in the character. My father, who was a big Marvel head back in the day, loved everything about it. The best thing about it to me was that the film remembered that Superman truly isn't the All-American Guy, he's an immigrant, a refugee. And in America, especially nowadays, immigrants are NOT wholly embraced, loved, or even trusted at first or even at all.
A being like Superman existing on Earth would cause all kinds of issues both personal, political, and international. Clark being hesitant to reveal himself and Pa Kent's fear of his exposure makes perfect sense in that kind of setting.
The fight scenes were a marvel to watch and loved how dynamic, destructive, and almost overwhelming it all was. This is what a Superman-level threat would look like. Of course there would be massive causalities and destruction. It's Superman's first day on the job after all.
I can understand some of the criticisms but most just come off as really shallow and just comparing this movie to other incarnations which goes against the point of the entire film which was to build its own identity.
Man of Steel is a great film. And is indeed my favorite Superman movie.
That supes/zod fight. I loved it.
I think the terrific actress DIANE LANE (always underrated and overlooked) was FABULOUS as Martha Kent. The cast did their job.
Its definitely NOT the best Superman movie ever but its a film that has really improved upon repeat viewing.
Is the best one an animated one?
What is the best Superman film ???? Superman Returns ???
It's definitely THE BEST superman movie. The campy ones don't come close at all
This movie was perfect. Perfect. Everything, down to the last minute detail.
Zimmer's score is one of the best parts of the movie ... I have Flight as one of my all time favorites .....Williams score is not missed by me thats for sure 😅😅
Zimmer ruined Interstellar for me.
Nothing about Flight was noteworthy. Stop giving participation awards to mediocrity. John's work defines the actual Superman, not the violent, detached Murder Man molded by Snyder.
Great video but I think the absence of Lex and the John Williams Theme were necessary as Snyder and WB were trying to establish a new Superman.
This is by far one of the greatest origin stories we've had for comics. Yes, there was controversy with the destruction and Supes killing Zod, but when you look at Christopher Reeve killing Zod and then smiling it's nothing.

Reeve didn't kill Zod in S2. Zod was picked up by the "US Arctic Patrol" later in a deleted scene.
That’s is complete BS, they deleted that scene for a reason.
Superman depowered Zod, then crushed his hand likely turning every bone to dust and erupting every blood vessel in his body.
Then throws him full force into a ice wall and he fell to his death.
Zod was human, he was no longer a threat.
Cavill superman killed a full powered Zod that was about to murder an entire family.
It was a killing that needed to happen and was done expertly.
Man of steal for me is the greatest superman movie ever made and while I grew up with Reeves, Cavill is superman!!

It honestly was the best Superman, and I grew up with the old ones which says alot.
This movie will become more legendary over time than any other superhero popcorn mash. It will age like wine.
I like this move the scenes on Krypton were really cool they had amazing technology.
One of my favorite superhero films of all time.
When I finally realized that there was hate for this movie, I didn't understand it. It's a great movie. Henry Cavill is great. He put in the work. "It's too dark ." What?! It's very realistic. It's actually very light, considering that all his life, Clark was the last of his kind, and then he finds out that he's not, but his people want to destroy, and the take over the only home he's ever known, and kill everyone he ever cared about. He actually took it insanely well.
People are used to making quips and jokes even in serious moments. Thank marvel for that
Because he's about as far from the comic Supes as you can get. Maybe that's why.
Most people that criticise and rubbish it, are fans of the TV series and die hard Reeve fans, and many probably have not even read the comics like those who watch the Marvel movies. I was a comic reader, and wasn't fussed it wasn't done exactly the way it had been before, or followed the same typical boring formula. It's one of my favourite comic based movies ever. Cavill really showed, the doubts, fears and worries, of a young man trying to find his place in the world. Wondering if he was more human than alien, alien than human, would he be accepted, did he have what it takes, and was he ready, to be the protector of mankind. He showed the stress and strain of having the weight of the world on his shoulders, before making the descion to become Superman. A lot of people watching didn't appreciate that, which was a pity. It wasn't that dark, we have way too many of these movies with jokes, clowning around, love interests, and appear to be made for young children, I am glad this wasn't one of them.
@@rn6312 Is that right up there with Snyder's whole "comic book accurate" take on Batman? Ya know...the one that "never kills" as hes blowing people away with automatic weapons lol. Get the fuck outta here.
You're the same people that get all buttmad when hes not wearing his bright red underwear outside his suit (which was originally done in the comics as a means to show they were actually wearing clothes and because of the limited availability of colors at the time). Or when you think the quintessential batsuit is gray and blue. News flash. Batman was always meant to have a black suit in the comics (with the exception of 70s Batman)....its just that in 2D media, there are only so many ways to express that - so you have to show the ways the suit would reflect light and still be able to show detail. Black, shiny objects typically reflect a gray or blue color back to the observer.
Man of Steel was a top notch film and an exceptional take on the character (mostly due to Goyer's and Nolan's involvement). Its just a tragedy the rest of the franchise did not follow suit but...the majority of the writing talent had mostly left after MoS. Afleck's Fatman didn't help matters...but that was really the fault of Snyder's shitty casting in that regard.
@@ade5004 they also say how he didn’t save anyone, while ignoring how that’s all he was trying to do in smallville. Like when the soldier fell out the helicopter. But once Zod nearly mastered his ability there was no opportunity to go around saving people while this man is chasing after you to kill you
I really like Man of Steel. My only issue is that I think the movie is a little unbalanced, like all the action takes place in the back half whereas the first half is mainly setup. Granted, I actually like the setup more than the action, I just would have spaced out the action scenes more. Maybe that would have made the ending feel a little less bloated to me
That’s like all films.
that's the problem yall want the same formula with movies look wat has become of marvel taking the same movie formula
Man of Steel is the perfect movie for people who hate the character of Superman and don't understand him whatsoever.
Superman killing Zod is not murder, killing someone is not automatically murder. If it was, we should be imprisoning every soldier on Earth, murder is considered to be unjustified killing. Zod was an active threat to the wellbeing of the human race and to Superman, so Superman killing him was not murder but a form of self-defense. He would never go to trial for this because he didn't commit murder. He didn't want to kill him, he didn't enjoy it, and he only made a split-second decision to save people. He's not a murderer.
Superman is not responsible for the destruction of the Metropolis. He's still new to this job, he's a young Superman and inexperienced. The blame solely falls on Zod who is responsible, so no, the blame is not on him.
Man of Steel probably my favourite Superhero film ever! Even had the score playing at my wedding
Grew up on the Donner films as an 80s kid...Man of Steel is the better of them.
It was a necessary update. The older versions didn’t age well. It’s a sin and a shame there wasn’t a sequel with Brainiac and now that Henry is kicked to the curb, all bets are off. A “fresh start” will be nothing more than a jump start in another direction.
No offense to Henry, he did what he was supposed to, but this movie is awful. Zach Snyder loves spectacle not story and on his way to having a city-destroying fight, he undermines Clark's upbringing by having his parents so paranoid that he has no reason to become a hero. I can't get over his father telling Clark that maybe he should have let children die to protect his secret and then dying a preventable death because he still was trying to protect his secret. I have never seen Superman let someone die to protect his secret identity until Zach Snyder took over. There's a reason Zod was in Superman 2 before. Jumping right in with Kryptonians before any other villains doesn't allow room to establish his character, which is why Snyder's Superman doesn't have any. He's very blah. And it only gets worse as the Snyderverse continues.
Yeah this movie had some really good scenes even the positives put weight on all the negatives.
It remains one of my favorites movies

Taxes? Only if you let politicians rob you.
Even without Beteridge's Law, the answer to the headline question is still an emphatic "no". As perfect a casting as Cavill is, Snyder has zero understanding of what makes the character and his attempt is pretty much the worst portrayal of Superman until his second attempt.
Brandon Routh I’d still love to see back!
The Snyder Superman is not appealing in any way There's a reason why the inspirational Superman has been the most beloved for 80 years.
Man of Steel will be remembered as a classic film.
Wait, so both Henry and Amy were already trying to get their roles before this movie? Fascinating.
For me personally, its one of the best Comics movies over all, including the end.
Finally we saw, what really happens, when two nearly gods clash with each other in a big town. This was developed even further in the batman vs superman movie.
Talking about Antje Traue: Well. She is from germany. I am from germany. So i wont forget her. xD Loved her performance.
THIS!!! No one understands!! Literally any scene with Hulk should have this kind of power but no, they nerf the shit out of him. And even now Marvel is getting around the idea of the ramifications of the snap from Thanos. MOS and BVS was ahead of it’s time
I admire your commitment to showing what's going on with these films; actors, directors, producers, and your love of the adaptation genre. But they are hollow, and at core, popcorn sellers. A few moments of drama, at best. This is from a guy in love with comics at 7, now 61 years. So many possibilities reduced to mechanical tropes. Gimme the Howard The Duck reboot.
10 years and no sequel with Henry Cavill. What shame.
Wait, what? Henry Cavill isn't going to be Superman anymore?
MoS was fine mainly because it did not invite comparisons to the great Richard Donner !
I love this film. It has so much going for it and it delivers.
Seeing this at the theater too close to the screen the shaky cam stuff annoyed me. After watching it at home I fell in love with this movie and rewatch it often.
I really like Superman vs The Elite and Death of Superman. Doesn't get enough credit.
One thing that is missing, how isolated Ka El feels.
That is an element I wish it would be explore in future movies.
I know in will never happen.
Isolation doesn't sell
This is movie is getting better with time . I had the change to be in london at the premier and see Henry and Russel in person . This movie got a manage to have a soundtrack, a super awesome villain !! Much better than many many comic book movies . Still don’t get why people didn’t like it .
Would have been good if Snyder could understand the characters he works with, this movie fell flat the second they let Jon Kent die so dumb like
2 things
1) His father is a psycopath, tells him not to use his powers and let people die.
2) He didn't have to kill Zod, he just had to move his head, they really forced that grimdark brooding superman, it feels rushed and bad.
His father is a psychopath in the comics, too. In Superman #1, the Kents told young Clark not to use his powers to help others until he grows up.

2nd best movie but my favorite Superman actor
I absolutely adore this movie, and whenever I hear arguments about why its somehow "shit", it makes me lose braincells. It makes me think that some people watched the movie with their eyes closed
No. I liked it, but I still think the first 2 Richard Donner movies are better. I would say Superman 2: Richard Donner Cut is the best, then Superman: The Movie, and then this
As a big fan of Superman, I really wanna like this movie, but every time I try watching it, I just get so frustrated at how bad it is.
I personally almost fell asleep during the darker flash back scenes,. But hey listen to all those commenters out there, they reall liked it.
Easily the best superman and actor for the role no debate 👍🏽
Man, such a great movie. You really could follow the evolving mindset of the main character, with even the destruction happening due to his inexperience in how to respond. I don't think people have seen DC animation before if they think Superman gets into fight with no destruction involved.
My main critique is Lois Lane. She came off as abrasive and annoying rather than tough and street smart.
1. Superman II
2. Superman Returns
3. Man of Steel
Those are the three best movies.
Glad that people are giving some love to Cavill’s Superman. Even if the DCEU didn’t go as planned you can’t really blame the actors, they did their best with what they were given.
While I enjoy it for the most part, Man of Steel is way too dark and gritty for a Superman film. It needed to have a lighter tone. If you don't leave the theater energized and instead are a bit melancholy, it didn't work.
In many aspects, the BEST Supe movie of all time.
While Chris Reeve's portrayal is iconic - no question, being as close to the original concept, Cavill's is truistic with the world's current way of life and environment.
No!
Can you do a WTF happened to My name is Earl? That show left everyone on a cliffhanger.
Hans’ score is arguably better than the Williams score. We can argue.
Despite the destruction of the city, this is still the best Superman movie without 80s cheesiness
I remember those trailers being amazing
Has anyone ever seen David S Goyer and Stanley Tucci in the same room before? Uncanny resemblance.
Love how Jor El says "You will give the people of Earth an ideal to strive for". Like he knew what was going on on Earth and his planet was in the middle of a war and collapsing upon itself. Krypton needed an ideal to strive for.
I like Cavill a lot. But Christopher Reeve is yet to be topped as Cinema's finest Man of Steel.
To me, the best Superman movie is Superman 2. I fell asleep twice trying to watch Man of Steel.
😆😆😆😆😆😆I can't believe you just commented that. I almost fell asleep myself watching it in the theater. The scenes were to dark and I hated the flashbacks.
Nice take. I don't agree about the villains. I actually found the henchwoman way more intimidating than Shannon's Zod. They gave her some pretty scary, otherworldly scenes.
I love this flick. Very fun. Great score.
Acting is good, music was great, but the plot is bad.
"Murder" w.r.t. Zod is harsh. It was clearly self-defense.
Great video.
Yes he should have used John Williams theme music, you can literally hear it say SUPERMAN.
I cannot not love this movie. Brings back warm fuzzy memories every time i think about it. I remember walking out of the theatre depressed cos I couldn't fly 😂
It is great movie it’s origin movie without felling like one with flashbacks and all that. As controversial as death of zod was it really was emotional moment for him and really should have been expanded on instead of going all in on next film.
