The old lady was like "Bloodyhell, the french are attacking" XD
HaB22 Nice one ;). Since we are doing stereotypes:
Why do french tanks have five reverse gears and one forward gear?
--- The forward gear is there in case the enemy comes from behind.
Richard Challenger must have forgotten to tell us that ;)
The cas calculator is that a joke or are u americain
george clark American? dude its a joke, didn't you notice the emojis?
The cas calculator I know its meant to be a joke but jokes are also meant to be funny.
hey, let the brits have their French jokes
Just hope they never say it within earshot of a French soldier
Imagine the guy in the vans reaction when he saw it come round the corner xD
damn its road legal.....
best vehicle to drive to work, I doubt your boss is going to yell at you anymore
I expect the mileage sucks, though. :d
If you can get the shells, yes
Hi, thanks for the video. I am from Ecuador, here it constitutes the main tank of the armored forces, more than a hundred are operational, those are armed with a 105mm gun, the tanks are updated with ballistic computers, laser rangefinders, there are also on the APC and SPA versions. Peru would also have some.
Is it true that this tank is forbidden to fire sideways for fear of toppling over, especially for 105mm cannons? If yes, how about for 90mm?
@@juliuscajilog9371 hello, I do not know for sure... but I think that does no happen... that would be a very very bad characteristic in a real use scenario (combat), nevertheless I hadn´t seen any video shooting sideways.. (perhaps as such videos of amx-13's shooting... are rare...). If you got such a video please share the link :) !!
the AMX is still fighting!!!
@@juliuscajilog9371 sorry for this late-ish responce, to answer your question, yes. it is forbidden to fire the gun sideway's for 105 and in some cases 90mm AMX versions, but not for the AMX-13-75. i've had a chat with one of the old guy's on base (was back in 2004, i'm an ex-tanker from the Dutch army). and a bit of a small history lesson of what the old guy told me. the 105 amx was basically a scam by the french, it was first sold to the belgians and then to the dutch. but the belgians and dutch found out real fast that they would flip over because of the caliber of the gun. 90mm was not that big of a problem, but it would still flip over if the terrain was not favourable. so we tried to get our money back from the french, which failed because they are a asshats sometimes. so we sold them off to somewhere else. but the Dutch army got rid of all the Centurions and AMX tanks as soon as the leopard 2 was taken into service.
again. i know your comment is 9 month's old and nobody has given you a straight answer yet. so here you are.
have a good one lol
edit: grammar
@@colindols4112 Wow...thank you so much for this invaluable information... Didn't know this...And thank you for the history tour...
just an update, the AMX13 had done its part in the Singapore Armed Forces. We are replacing with Germans Leopard... Nevertheless having to trained along side with these lovely machines is an honour...
"this tank is road legal" OH HELL YEAAA! FUCK LAMBOS IM GETTING ONE OF THESE
doesnt it cost like 5 times a lambo tho
@@daddyplankton5855 Not necessarily. You can buy CVRT family vehicles for under $100,000 and they're about the size of a Chrysler minivan.
Darn. I wanted to see it fire.
john j The tanks in this Collection where Deactivated long ago, their arms unable to function, normally by shoving a steel rod into the chamber and welding it in place, then by destroying the firing mechanics inside the gun, other then that these vehicles are 100 percent operational, but the only tank i know of that still has a working gun and in civilian hands is in America, a M18 Hellcat to be precise.
Sadly he could not do that legally. Im sure he has tried and have ammo stored away somewhere though ;)
Redneck Fury and if you want to see it then hop on over to FPS Russia's channel, pretty sure he has a go 'round on it in one of his videos. Unless it is a government owned one, in which case don't mind me.
135Fenrir Yeah the guy from FPS Russia shot a car with a hellcat.
M8 the gun wouldn't he's in the UK yes you can own a tank but noway on earth would british law alound someone to own a tank with a working canon
Thank you for this remembrance! How beautiful the AMX has been restored! I drove the AMX 13 in 1966 for more than a year (in Holland)
The dubbel clutch gave me some trouble during my lessons... (In Holland we had the 105 mm gun) I drove the tank very often on the road. (that was nice!)
The widthe was 252 cm and therefore it was allowed.
There is one in the Cavelerie Museum at Amersfoort.
There are infantry versions in an other dutch museum. I've been there but can't exactly remember name or where lol
AMX 13 one of the best light tanks ever built.
Fr
NIce video. From 1968 till 1974 I was instructor on the AMX tank and carrier (AMX-PRI) in the Dutch Army.
LOL nice street legal tank... Almost impossible to legally own a gun there but perfectly legal to drive a tank down the road.
I'm late but where's "there"
I mean it isn't you just have to have a license, just like the tank...
@@CloroxBleach0 lancashire england I think.
@@plaid13 nice, I guess I know where I wanna live now
also it's cool seeing you after 6 years lol

This guy does an awesome job. I can't stop watching these
It's not everyday that you see a guy rocks up at work in a tank, but damn, that's awesome!
You can still load the main gun manually without using the magazine. That is where the extra stowage ammo come into play, different types are loaded manually by the commander as needed, the magazines are generally loaded with HE if enemy armour is not expected.
Honestly I don't believe that. Take a look at this cutaway view: 2.bp.blogspot.com/-9sqVUgTSudM/VkSz5kCovUI/AAAAAAABpwU/lKOwHRIYcbU/s640/amx13.gif.. With such little place how should the commander get extra rounds out of the hull an put them into the muzzle? Maybe with "smaller" (and the ammuntition of the original German 7,5-cm-KwK 42 L/70 had been rather large in fact: thepanzertrap.com/images/PANAMMO%20AP%20TYPE%201%20WOOD2.png ) 75 mm rounds it might have worked, but certainly not with the later 90 mm or 105 mm rounds . . .
its no longer in service with Singapore since around 2007. Switched to the Leopard 2.
Singapore at one time had 350 of these, the largest operator of AMX-13. Upgraded with modern 350hp diesel engines, laser rangefinders, modern communications, etc. and indigenous APFSDS rounds.
When shooting the main gun with the AMX13-105, one should never traverse the gun outside the tracks or it would tip over from the recoil. We (the fortunate ones in the Centurions) called it the shooting rollerskate. The AMX13 was worn with army-issued suspenders and its tank commander had to bend or flex his whole body depending on whether the main gun (thus the turret) elevated or depressed. Reload was quick (think seconds) but it took a while before the whole verhicle calmed down and back into some semblance of battery after firing the main gun. Otherwise, a neat little package of vicious destruction to possible adversaries.
5:54 French car meets French tank
Dude is like "I drive a tank, therefore your argument is invalid".
+DEANOGTO well it was filmed in britain so i guess its french tank meets british car :)

Thank you sir for restoring it and making it available for a nice video.
Singapore doesn't use the AMX-13 anymore. That kinda Infantry support / Light Tank role has been taken by the Bionix AFV. Most of the armor fleet had been updated over the years from the AMX-13 and Centurion she was using as her main battle tanks, to the Bionix and the Leopard 2A4.
Thanks for part 2 Richard.
Really liked the driving on the street part (LOL at the look the old lady on the street gave)
Another great vid.
Cheers,
Man, I would love to drive this thing around city streets, just waiting to see peoples' reactions. Fun! :D
Elric Colvill You wont get people arguing with you, and if they so, start moving towards their car, lol.
Would like to add a short note here that in 2010, all SM-1 (Singapore's version of AMX-13) has been decommissioned and scraped. Therefore it is not true that it is still in service in Singapore in 2015.
Interesting and clearly and concisely presented. Very good series.
Glad to see this splendid old tank restored with such passion and talent ! Not many French tanks made it to Britain since William the Conqueror :-) And this one just brings fun - with a reasonable amount of pollution. Greetings from Paris.
in case anyone needs a translation (4 years on) this says:
Hello, from 1974-1979, I drove and fired this same tank. Oh to remind me of my youth under the tricolore of the French Flag. I am certain that I could drive it again today no problem. I am available to make the trip!
@@ralfpetitt713 you didn't translate Kénavo lol it's a bretonnic word... for good bye or see you soon*
@@ralfpetitt713 bro thanks for this
1:08 UNFAIR! It had 2 drums historically holding 6 rounds each, So why in World of tanks you have to shoot 6 rounds and reload? Why not 12? :(
The is7 also had an autoloader... Why doesent it have it on Wot oh wait ballance.
People could still make things balanced. Like on the Is 7, Make lower alpha or longer reload. That's how they balance autoloaders...
Yeeeey, and also it could carry only 12 rounds, so fire them at once at first minute and go suicide....... On the other hand, thats how 99% of players play it anyways...
I say give it 12, then make it STOP to reload, and equally reduce the alpha. In an arcade game built on alpha damage, all revolver tanks are pretty much broken. :I
Patrik Ogrizek I wish is7 had autoloader lol
how OP is that
El AMX 13 en Ecuador tambien sigue operativo (108 unidades, aunque no todas en funcionamiento supongo.) (Y)
I love this tank, it looks awesome what a project to take on. Well done.
The old lady was like "The French are invading, run!!!" :O
His information is slightly off, Singapore had already upgraded to the Leopard 2. But the AMX-13 indeed was in service in the SAF for a very long time. :)
Watching these vids is more fun than playing WOT.
Are those the Yorkshire Dales you fellows are driving through?
+Pete Hall yes indeed
Beautiful landscaps for a beautiful tank!
Only just. Not properly up in the hills.
you will find that this is rossendale in east lancashire old bean
I have fixated on tanks for about a year now here on CZcams. This is the sexiest and most innovative tank of its time.
Vive la French and all their oddball but rather effective designs, those who've driven a Citroen GS just know.
Its not in service in Singapore anymore. Its replaced by Leopard 2 in around 2006/7.
I was at Spangdahlem AB, West Germany in the 1980s and they had about 20 of these things in the woods of the base for a big NATO exercise called "Salty Demo." I saw one driving around the base leaking oil everywhere on the 4th of July for some reason. The USAF Security Police (now called Security Forces") were fooling around with them. I think they had a mistaken impression USAF cops were USAR infantry! :)
If I am not mistaken this tank played a role in inspiring Major General Israel 'Talik' Tal ("The Father of Merkava") to have the engine at the front for Merkava tank.
The tank commander for this AMX is LT J Valdes.
In WoT, the food consumable for french tanks is coffee.
Juan Valdez was a fictional character used to promote coffee.
I see what you did thar.
That car coming round the corner. Amazing
one of the coolest looking tanks ever made
Haha could you imagine the insurance companies reaction when he called in to insure this? How the hell did they even figure out its liability/rate etc??
French want AMX 13-105mm in WOT !!!!!!
Tier 8 premium!
WTHisDaftPunk:( why "premium" ?
French Bomber so you can afford all the rounds your going to miss with the damn thing lol
Actually, player once petition for it to be in Tier 9 and replace the Lorry 40t which performance is questionable. But the final say from Wargaming is that it's not going to happen, not even premium tank due to something in AMX-13-105 being "too modern for the time period" or so they say.
+French Bomber
Sold for export, mainly to israel; I had the pleasure of working on different models of AMX-13 on gun 90mn, armed missile section of a cannon 75mn and 4 SS11 missiles to finish on 13 VBCIs Milan. I was hot inside but also very very cold because of engine placement in the front right causing an air suction from the turret well to the engine compartment. Its rate of fire is impressive with the system of "loader", a good crew could put 6 shells of the same trajectory in less than a minute, useful especially in artillery support, some tank commander engage themselves in the shell barrel by a good bed on the rear of the munition. This infantry tank was a wonder of design, are easy maintenance. His faults are air supply and the noise he made while driving by are ventillateur. if not that fun to drive. In addition it was equipped with a hydraulic troubleshooting starting system that has allowed the crew to start the gear in case of battery failure or breakage of starter .The following 8-cylinder flat was equipped with magneto we could cut independently of the other, the use of magnétot allowed to use the boot system Hydraulic ride on the back of moteur .The grip of the unsynchronized gearbox is tricky but once used is no longer made the difference with a sync box. Only the crew size is a handicap, + 1m75 sorry you will have to fight on foot .... LoL
Most drivers are courteous and happy to give right of way.
All the pple in da cars like, "WHAT IS A TANK DOING NEXT TO MY HOUSE??!?!?!?" They probably thought that was the actual army taking a alternate route...
Had some good shots of some controls but disappointed that we could not look around the interior in each fighting position.
Cavalry battalion near my home in Indonesia operate only AMX 13. They have dozens, although only a half which are tank variant. The rest are APC and self propelled howitzer.
visit more YONIF bases
you Will find leopard 2A5
if youre lucky....
Yonif is infantry battalion, they don't use tank. .... Yes, Indonesian army have Leopard 2. But currently operated by cavalry battalions that under Kostrad (Yonkav 1 & 8), not by cavalry battalion that under Kodam like near my home.
+MrAdpran like i Said if you're lucky...
very impressive video... especialy the autoloader. but it also shows the technical difficulties of this tank.
One thing he doesn't mention is, that there is a gap between turret and hull where there is no armor at all (and can't be added), just a canvas. This exposed crew in the turret to fire even from small guns and shrapnels. That's one big point why this turret design isn't used often today.
+MrTorgue Is it? Or is it just that the overlapping armor let the rain (and blast) in.
+Adamast You're right. I thought there was no armor behind that canvas at all, but a little research enlighted me. Thanks. (But like you mentioned yourself, still a big big risk for crew because of blasts and other hazards)
Just for the record, Singapore has already phased out the AMX 13 quite sometime ago and is currently operating the Leopard 2.
In Singapore is not AMX-13 We tank operators named it SM-1 where we modified some parts. Once Armour Always Armour
such a beauty
Singapore 🇸🇬 Military SAF Army had Bought Second hand AMX 13 Light Tanks 300 from France 🇫🇷, India 🇮🇳 and Israel 🇮🇱 models in the 65s era.

Let's see the inside and drive it!
Hello , it was AMX 13 75 or AMX 13 90?
75
Sparky The Dog amx 13 75 because it has the 75mm gun
If trusted WOT it looks like AMX 13 105!
+Serj Malign the only diffrence is the gun
its barely noticable
Hot air from the engine is coming out in front of a gunner's scope... really clever=)
That's an intake, not an exhaust...
exhaust is on the side
Danial Hakim where did you see word "exhaust"? I said "hot air" coming out from engine compartment through big fan on top of a hull.
konstantin88181 just saying that the exhausts is on the side of the tank lol
+konstantin88181 hot air can't come out of the cooling fan, that's an air intake (much like on a car, it is placed on the front where the engine is). The hot air comes out of the exhaust which is located on the rear. Those things are tested before they are mass produced, i don't think something as blatant as that could pass the testing phase.
I always wondered how it looked from inside for the guys sitting in turret while gun was pointing up or down? I mean, on pretty much any other tank commander's cupola and periscope picture for other members are unaffected by that, but not on this tank.
Perhaps the greatest moment for the AMx-13s came at the battle of Assal Uttar where despite being outnumbered 2:1 , a mixed Indian force of Indian Centurions and AMX-13s knocked out over a 100 Pakistani M-48 pattons leading to a decisive victory.
Aww, i missed the old Victory music. It was awesome!
En Ecuador también está en servicio el AMX 13 - 105 aún hoy en día.
This is the most English thing I’ve ever seen: guy tinkering in shed restores vintage French tank to running condition, AND English road law allows tank to drive on public roads!
Also, total respect to this guy for restoring this vehicle. I’m in awe of his mechanical skills, and patience and persistence.
i imagine the people on that bus wondering if this is usual, especially if they're tourists.
there's nobody in that bus.... 😄
Its rossendale....defiantly not tourists

Nice video and I would say the Israeli's used the AMX-13-75 in pairs to combat the tier 9 T-54 & Tier 10 T-62 Medium tanks during the 1967 or 1973 Arab Israeli War, and the video might be better if the challenger goes to a Singaporean Army live fire training with the AMX-13-75
Note that the Israelis used the AMX-13 as a "battle tank" simply because at the time they were desperately short of anything better suited for the job (IIRC they sold most of the little things to interested Asian states once they could get beefier stuff). Predictably the gun rather struggled with the much heavier Soviet mediums - I've read a description of a sudden encounter between an IDF AMX and an Egyptian T-54 which the former only survived because the rapid emptying of its barillets into the opponent's frontal armour apparently concussed the Egyptian crew to the degree the light tank could make its escape unmolested.
broadbandislife Never knew that this tier 7 French light tank survived a fight with a Russian made tier 9 medium tank in the Egyptian Army rank and I would say the 75mm gun on this tank is basically the Panther tanks gun fitted with an autoloader, and for the T-54 there was the top 10 tanks show on the Military Channel now called American Heroes channel that states that the T-54 was produced around 95,000 and roll in to western Europe for the AMX-13 family the AMX-13-90 or 105 mm versions which would be the tier 8 light tank in world of tanks they have sufficient firepower to take down the T-54/55 if the cold war goes hot the video is www.ahctv.com/tv-shows/combat-countdown/videos/top-ten-tanks-soviet-t-54-55/ and to this day some operators like Singapore have the AMX-13 with a diesel engine and the APC version Mexico has one which is used against the Los Zetas cartel
EpicThe112 Jesuschrist pal, punctuation. Also the Wiki article on the AMX-13 will already tell you more than enough of the diverse modifications and version (as well as users over the years) of the little go-cart.
Anyways, had the Cold War turned hot the main counter of the French to the Soviet tank fleets (which by the middle decades were actually dominated by T-62s in the mech infantry divisions and T-64s in the more elite tank divisions anyway) would've been the AMX-30 and its big nasty 105 mm gun, not this reconnaissance pipsqueak. In French service it was never upgraded beyond the 90 mm anyway, if memory serves.
Incidentally, from what I've read the 13 is popular among small SE Asian states to a large degree because it's light and small enough to operate in the minimal transportation infrastructure of their rural hinterlands where bigger tanks basically can't even move. The Chinese kept a lineage of light tanks in production and service for quite a while due to similar considerations regarding their rugged and mountainous southern borders.
Dude u can't get into Singapore's training unless you have a special permit which is almost impossible to get or you are part of the armed forces and I am Singaporen so I know
yey finaly the amx 13 part 2 yey wargaming pls do an inside of the tetrarch :)
Is the intro song the victory song of World Of Tanks Generals ? Sounds quite similar.
Very good, thanks.
true we use amx and light medium and leopard 2 tank in Indonesia
"you get a few looks"
classic Anglo understatement
The AMX-13 which now currently operating in Indonesia has been modified with 105mm gun, which now change the name be AMX 13 105. But I wonder how is combat with these tanks versus modern MBT such PT-91, Leopard 2 or M1 Abrams from its neighbor countries.
Hmm...difficult to know.
I think in Brazil it have 1 or 3 AMX 13 105 prototype but it is not entered mass production due to its goddamm recoil of the gun and the turret cant endure the recoil
For the record, the Singapore military replaced their AMX-13s with Leopard 2s back in 2006...
The ultimate convertible? Roadable as well, traffic jams not a problem!
The Song when the Guy is driving the Tank was the Old Victory Song
So the amx was a tank destroyer/light tank hybrid.... Interesting.

Outdated info (even back in 2015 when the video was made), Singapore retired this tank around 2010, but operated the largest fleet of AMX-13 (350 of them), upgraded to fire modern APFSDS rounds, with laser rangefinders, modern suspensions and detroit diesel engines.
