Pure gold, I love that it's such a current analysis, almost no one is talking about the fake authenticity yet. And it relates to what I was thinking about so much :) thank you
Thank you for making these videos available for free. I'm interested and invested in learning about philosophy, but it is highly inaccessible to most people.
Your explanation makes hard topics and often convoluted philosophical terms much simpler and easy to digest.
Your content is very enjoyable. I'm probably going to binge watch everything you've done so far. :D
Also, hello to you from Russia!
Thank you so much! That’s the dream, to prove that education can be accessible and entertaining without dumbing to down. Thank you for understanding
So happy this found me, self help is rotting my brain
Same😅
I'm going to stay with the theory that Zizek is your father
Well my father is a professor so it’s close enough 😂
@@julianphilosophy Professor of what? I'm intrested
Not enough sniffing ; ) ... Love them both. Cheers to you.
4:55 starts the lecture proper
You can look at Saint-Exupery quote as not embracing the imperfection but catching the essence. Especially when you apply it to objects. Its often used in design. You can add features indefinitely but it will distract from items purpose, will make it chaotic, when you strip the object to essencial features, all of them become purposefull and harmonic.
This is an actual tech quote from Civilization IV: "A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away."
Authenticity is imperfection. The ability to be one's whole self, both flaws and graces included. To know both triumph and failure; to live moment by moment as both self and moment change. To be eternally ephemeral.
I don't know what else to say but based.
All about holding it possible to conclude, to engage, to devote yourself, so all about negation of logic, morality, dignity. What stays is the inviting, the provoking, the joking of yourself, the world, even god.
And believing as an expression of thankfulness for the precious and fragile and endangered gift of love, setting all the hope available into the "fact", that loss won't - in true, but irrational terms - mean just loss of love, but even in loss of love loss of loss itself, so that resurrection - in even more irrational terms - is, in the eyes of reality itself, a logical turn, a kind of wordless conclusion.
Thanks for the video (Germany)
Greetings from Istanbul. Glad to learn you two met here. Keep up the good work!
What a perfectly (im)perfect way to share love. Thank you! ❤️
My pleasure! Thanks for watching. And if you liked the lecture you might also enjoy the podcast I recorded afterwards. Available here: www.patreon.com/jenalineandjulian
this lecture is amazing
Do you also have a Spotify, Julian? Would love listening to your lectures whilst biking (Greetings from the Netherlands)
I know this might be a lot, but would you be willing to drop links to the books you use in your lectures? That or like a reading list. Love the videos!
I need an updated unglitched version or revisit of this entire video. I don't mean to be nagging or complaining-which means I'm going to or I already am. This could have been so much more replayabe if not for the technical issues you were continuing to have after trying to fix it.
* sigh * There's a lot I can salvage though from what did come through. I'll just have to listen in small bites and think a lot more than I thought I would have to. So, i guess this makes me listen better. And think more. And not just consume and move onto the next piece of content to, consume without thought.
Sooo.... Thank you. Really!
Good stuff, From Kenya🇰🇪

People on dating profile biographies often claim that they are authentic, when describing their character. Interestingly enough, those same people appear most inauthentic...

Anything **curated** as an “aesthetic” cannot be “authentic”.
Hi from Australia
Excellent yt clickbait. Zizek on something with no Zizek. Noice.
I’m sorry you felt that way, but this strikes me as unfair. I’ve posted more than 50 Žižek lectures to my channel, none of which include Žižek.
But if it makes you happy I can change the title. How about ‘On Žižek’s theory of perfection?’ See new title. Hope that’s better.

Isn’t it 3 pounds and not 30 😂
With 3 you can empathise how you are closer to perfection and you should stay there close to the perfection barrier
You’re right
I think it was 5 ;) but i feel like the difference between 3/5 and 30 is absolutely crucial. 30 pounds more or less is a world of difference in many regards, often with actual benefits, looks-wise and health-wise. Being 30 pounds overweight and wanting to lose some of that has nothing intrinsically to do with perfection, just with improvement. Wanting to lose 3/5 pounds, on the other hand... is exactly the chase for perfection that zizek is talking about.
Love from Pakistan! ❤

Came for the spit, was disappointed
Are you formally educated in Philosophy?
Yes and no. I didn’t do a degree in philosophy but did a BA in post colonial theory, an Ma in cultural studies, and a PhD in politics (theory and IR focused). But that’s actually quite a common trajectory for continental theorists
Riveting stuff but the sound is really laggy. No doubt a clear sign of true perfection, but it is a little difficult to hear what you're saying.
Just purchased a good mic and hoping to use it for the next lecture. Thanks for taking the time to watch!
