Marianela is such a perfect dancer that we take her for granted. Sheâs among the greatest ballerinas of all time, absolutely beautiful dancer.

I honestly think any role she plays is iconic, she does such an excellent job of embodying any character she portrays. However, her Kitri and Gamzatti are sublime.
La variaciĂłn de Gamzatti es espectacular. Un control y un lirismo exquisitos... una gran, gran bailarina.
OMG her arms are superior. And she dances like a real oriental dancer as Gamzati and as a Spanish one as Kitri. Her torso as Kitri and the way she moves her abdomen as Gamzati are absolutely according to her role and the way those characters would dance. She is perfect and genuine.

Among the greats, what makes Marianela Nunez stand out is the fearless control and comfort she has with turns. She has such effortless transitions in and out of turns en pointe that she makes it look easy. I think roles that really highlight this ability - La Bayadere, Swan Lake, Don Quixote helps her really shine in addition to her clean lines.
On the top of my head, the only other ballerinas I can think of that exude this level of fearless comfort with turning I can think of is Sofiane Sylve and maybe Gillian Murphy?
Yeah, it seems like Marianela Nunez has a lot of fun being Kitri! (;

La variaciĂłn de Gamzatti del tercer acto es impecable, la mejor de todas las que vi y una de las mĂĄs difĂciles de todos los ballets, sin embargo hay performances de Marianela muy superiores que se podrĂan haber incluido como la de Gamzatti pero del Pas de Action, una de las mejores ejecuciones de todos los tiempos

She is such a joy. I have a theory that she will be granted the title of prima ballerina assoluta when she retires.

Nunez is among a few currently dancing ballerinas who is very artistic and has a great technique. There is some feeling in her every move while others just compete like athletes who is faster or can jump higher. She is graceful in all ballets she dances. I like her duet with Mantagirov much more than with Carlos Acosta. I would not say if she is the best in Don Quixote or La Bayadere she is among the best and very special.
It looks like some of your remark got cut off, but agree, agree, agree. She's that rare dancer who can credibly dance both Myrtha and Giselle, both Nikiya and Gamzatti. Thing is, she is also faster and jumps higher and, God knows, out-turns nearly every other ballerina on the planet. But she makes her technical skills serve the drama. And she's also great in more contemporary pieces. If I had to pick one dancer that I could only watch do every role in every ballet in the universe, it would be Nela.
Marianela would have to be a prima ballerina assoluta
I wish they would just accord her the title. I think the last one so designated was Darcy Bussell, and for my money, Nela is better.

Her best role is Odette! As far as Royal Ballet is concerned, when it comes to Swan Lake, Nunez always gets to be the first cast.
Osipova is actually better in the La Fille, and there are other notable principal dancers who can fill in for the role competitively. But for Swan Lake in the Royal Ballet, it can only be Nunez.
I've only seen Osipova courtesy of ballet cinema, but while her dancing in Swan Lake was superb, my non-balletomane husband asked me "Is she supposed to be sick?" (regarding her Odette) lol! And I did feel her Odile was bouncy and bubbly but more about the technique than the drama. She was great dramatically in soubrette roles like Lisa. I think her acting has come a long way since then, though.

How did I miss this? The only ballerina I've seen do the Gamzatti solo as well was Cynthia Gregory (also known for her ability to balance and turn), and I don't think she went for quite as many turns (she was one of the first Gamzattis in Makarova's production). I know the music and choreography were new for that production, but I love it and much prefer Makarova's staging to any other. (Nela is also one of the best Nikiyas). Gorgeous Fille and I still can't believe that in the middle of the light-speed Kitri solo she fits in blowing a kiss to Basilio!

Why a 3rd tour if you canât finish cleanly, regularly? Is circus production more important? Sheâs a great dancer, she just shouldnât be in the now fashionable spinning contest
You saw all that beautiful acting and artistry but you call it a circus because of an imperfect triple pirouette? Geez, shut the fuck up.
why so damn salty? iâm not saying you have to try attempting that, but âcircus productionâ? who do you think you are? and also, youâre acting as if she tripped over her foot and fell to the ground? maybe iâm a sucky ballerina or i need my eyes checked, because all of her triples were fine, just she comes down from releve slightly before she finishes, and Iâm not sure if itâs that big of a deal; itâs almost unnoticeable to me.
Agree with audrey. Are you at all familiar with this variation? I've seen Bussell and Osipova of all people fall out of a lot of the turns and doing fewer revolutions. This is nearly textbook perfect.
