I have exact same model and mine has 8 gb of ram , 450 gb of HDD , what specs should i upgrade to ,or should I get a new laptop ?? My work primarily requires 16 gb of ram and atleast 500 gb of storage.
This will be bit lengthy reply but here goes: To upgrade RAM on this model to better than 16 GB would require you purchasing a 16 GB module and installing it which would be fairly easy. Once installed you should have a total of 20 GB of RAM as there is 4 GB RAM permanently soldered to the motherboard. A 16 GB module would cost you about $30. You can go on Data Memory System or Crucial website and plug in the laptop model specifics and you will be given options for 16 GB modules. I have used both websites with no issues with their RAM products several times. It is my understanding that this model laptop can take maximum of 20 GB RAM. The hard drive issue is a bit trickier. I would recommend at least a 1 TB 2.5 inch solid state drive. A reliable Silicon Power or PNY model will cost you about $50 on Amazon. A higher end performance brand like Toshiba or Western Digital will be in the $80 - $100 range. I have used all the brands just mentioned and all have worked fine in my different projects, but Toshiba is the best in my opinion. When replacing the hard drive you will need to consider the software side of things. Easiest thing to do is to clone the new hard drive from the current one. That would require a USB to SATA cable if you don't have one already. That cable/connector would be about a $10 investment. I have used successfully Macrium Reflect trial version which is free to download and works for 30 days to clone. There are other free cloning softwares out there you can use but I cannot give feedback on how well and easily they may work. If you don't clone the drive, you would need to reload all software on the new hard drive, starting with Windows. That would be a much more labor intensive approach. To sum up, to make DIY upgrades to your current laptop would cost ballpark $90 - $125 depending on what model hard drive you want to use. There is also your time and level of skill with doing these things to factor in. I am guessing a new 15 inch laptop with 16 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD would cost in the range of $500 - $700. I added an 8 GB RAM stick which yielded a total of 12 GB of RAM on the laptop when I was done with the video. There was originally 8 total GB of RAM so I made an upgrade of 4 GB of RAM total. There was originally 4 GB in the RAM slot shown in the video and 4GB soldered to the motherboard. According to Crucial and Data Memory Systems sites, the laptop can take a total of 20 GB of RAM. That would mean adding a 16 GB stick into the slot shown in the video, instead of the 8 GB stick I used. @@MarkM_DIY thank you for your comment. I contacted Lenovo technical service who informed me that the ideapad 110-15 isk does not support more than a total of 8 GB of RAM. Have you verified that all the 12 GB really works?
So far the 12 GB has been working in the laptop fine. It is recognized in windows as 12 GB of RAM available after upgrade and has made an improvement in my machine's performance. I did see the listed 8 GB max in the laptop's original user manual prior to the upgrade, but also researched online and have seen the specs listed as 20 GB max on both Crucial and Data Memory System sites which is where I have purchased my RAM modules in the past. I decided to make the upgrade as I trust those sites to perhaps have more updated information, and it appears to have helped in my case. Hope this helps. Thank you.

My laptop RAM speed is currently running at 2133 MHZ and all works fine with very quick boot up. I also do have a 1TB PNY SSD in my laptop that I added prior to the RAM upgrade I did. Without knowing more about the particulars of your laptop, I would guess maybe (1) incompatible or faulty RAM module or (2) keep playing with XMP profiles to see if that helps. @@MarkM_DIY I have a Lenovo ideapad 110-15isk. I bought a Crucial 16gb ddr4 2400mhz sodimm. After installing ram, the cooler became and the processor began to work at the maximum of its capabilities. By changing the timing to 2133mhz, it became better, but still the work is unstable
Sorry to hear you are still having issues. Without being able to put my hands on your machine, I would suggest the following: 1. Test the RAM as I mentioned in previous reply to make sure nothing shows up as being wrong with the stick installed. 2. Try different XMP profile settings (maybe even disabling it) as allowed by the BIOS on your laptop to see if there is improvement. There are many good CZcams videos on working on the XMP settings. I have done several RAM upgrades and never have had the type of issue you are experiencing so am not expert in working with XMP settings. 3. Remove new RAM and replace with original RAM and settings to see if that gets you back to original, then try the install of the new RAM again. If no improvement, then possibly there is some type of incompatibility issue with the new stick and your motherboard. 4. Last thought is maybe your particular machine will not properly accept 20 GB RAM total. The 12 GB in my machine works great, so if all else fails, perhaps an upgrade to 12 GB may be optimal on your machine. Hope this helps. Thank you.
@@MarkM_DIY What's the result? I installed the original RAM and decided to sell a new one of 16 GB, but a friend dissuaded me) the next day I changed it to a new one again and everything worked) the only thing in the Latency tests increased by 2ms, but overall everything is fine
I used Crucial brand GB DDR4 2400 MHZ in this upgrade and it works fine. This module was recommended via the Crucial website after plugging in the laptop make and model number. Hope this helps. Thank you.
