Hello Everyone! GoldenNova here! Card lore fascinates me to no end, while it's frustrating that we don't have more resources available to get a better handle on it, somehow it makes the story that much more engaging, trying to puzzle out all the little clues to see what will come next! Today is my first crack at interpreting the patterns and visuals of one such story, so take a seat and enjoy my deep dive into the story of the Dragma and the Tribrigade.

All this did was remind me that instead of the general card game anime where the protagonist needs to beat some mystic evil in a children's card game, Konami could have made an anime about the lore of all of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Cards. Kind of like the original anime, except it takes place in the monsters' realm instead of the human world where monsters and magic are conjured back from times long forgotten.

Tbh, I feel like the ambiguity of the card lore makes a greater story than Konami could ever come up with. Making it into a full-on anime geared for children would sort of ruin the lore for me.

I think Tri-Brigade weapons uses the blue liquid to create a gas of some sort, only two of them don't use a gas mask: Ferrjitt, because she is a sniper and therefore out of the area of effect of her ammunitions' gas, and Kitt, who doesn't use them as she seems more related to springans lore wise. At least that would explain why only Ferrjitt and Kitt don't use a gas mask.

Amazing video as always brother. Dogmatika, Tri Brigade and Fallen of Albaz always had my interest and curiosity in terms of lore. And I say you did a phenomenal job on breaking them down in the timeline. Archetypes that have lore revolved around them always make them special along with the monsters associated with them. And assist them.

  • @-Pulsar-
    @-Pulsar- Před 3 lety +35

I am late to the party but, let me give a bit of insight at the very least in the japanese name. I am greek so just so you know the japanese name also comes from the ancient greek coins also known as Drachma. This coins weren't only used comercially for goods and services, there was also a special derivitive of them also known as ovolos or talanto. It was something the was put in the mouths of the recently passed supposedly so that they could pay the ferryman to give them passage way to the "good" underworld. Else they would for ever be lost wandering the abyss of the underworld.
I think just from that you can see the connection to the abyss of Dragma to the mythos of the ancient greek underworld from just that. They are those supposed miracles that come out from the abyss aka "tartara"(the way that the ancient greek underworld was named), which in the ancient greek mythos were spirits, knowledge and power that was bestowed to people that journeyed the underworld. Also of 'course there were many instances were when people came back from there they brought with them great curses and pleagues or allowed monsters to escape and bring destruction to the mortal world.
When I see the Dragma archetype I see this fusion of ancient greek mythos, arthurian mythology and some norse mythology for good measure. Tri-brigades also do have this, since a lot of there monsters do derive from a combination of these three mythologies. Don't forget that nature spirits and mythical beasts were not only known of being connected to the underworld, but were also known to fear it and warn greatly about the missuse of the power that it can give you. You could even if you want to connect sprigguns to all this, since there are many myths of mechanical living beings that destroyed whole cities in there path like talos, the fire breathing mechanical bulls and the mechanical crows, eagles and golems that all these mythologies have a reference to. Though I think it is a bit of a strech for Sprigguns at least. I think that the creators were just funs of gurren laggann or something and wanted giants robots in their story. XD Though it does make me question if they actually thought about it, since all sprigguns are fire and hyphestos was known as the god of machines/ingenuity and of fire. Though I still think that they just wanted to put giant robots in the lore just for the heck of it. XD
Anyway if you actually read my giant ass comment I thank you. ;p

    • @GoldenNovaYugioh
      @GoldenNovaYugioh  Před 3 lety +3

Oooo, the Greek Mythology angle is one I never thought of!
The Sprigguns thing is what gets me the most. While real Spriggans don't have anything to do with machines (as far as I can tell), if the Greek Mythology inclusions are purposeful, it could be, like, what a Spriggan would be like from that perspective, rather than a Cornish one.
Thanks a million for sharing, this is super interesting!

    • @-Pulsar-
      @-Pulsar- Před 3 lety +1

@@GoldenNovaYugioh I think that the Sprigguns were mostly shoe horned in more than anything. XD
It is kind of sus that they are fire/machine monsters though, if you want to see the hyphestous angle.
I think though it can't be denied for at least the Dogmatika/Tri-Brigades there is a connection with Greek, Norse and some Arthurian Mythos. Konami's go to source a lot of the times for cards and archetypes is Greek, Egyptian and Norse Mythology. So always keep your eye open on those mythos if you want a better understanding of how Konami designs cards and effects.
Also on the part your were talking about "Dogmatika Nexus" it's OCG name is "Cardinal of Dogma TetraDragmation" the last word is a reference to the greek word "Drachmatia" which in modern greek is used in a way to convey promissed power, land, wealth or even owed debt through written/recorded proof. In mythos "Drachamatia" were used as contracts by gods, demons, spirits, nations and merchants as promises for future help, debt, forgivness for a crime and even as a way to make people yield to ones wishes. They were magical contracts in essence. I think that nexus in the story at the very least in not a gateway, but more like a phone line to the abyss. I think that this is how maximus gained the power of the stigmata. I belive it is a way to make a binding contract with the abyss rather than it being a gateway.
The word "Stigmata" also comes from the Greek word "Stigma" which even in ancient and modern greek is used to convey the fact the you have an unatural blatant imperfection on your person, in your past/future or in your character. It is always used in a negative conotation, that you should do something about it to remove it if you can. A "Stigma" could be a scar, a deformity, a personality trait or even something the makes your life in general go to the worst. Also "Stigmata" is the plural version of "Stigma", so maybe this is reference that the Dragma have in general many issues/problems that need fixxing and revisions by their side. I am actually in general kind of suprised that they call them Dogmatika in the TCG. In Greek the word "Dogma" is a very heavy word it means people that gathered together in an organization under religious zeal. Dragma is a fussion of the word Dragon and of Drachma the coins. It's kind of uncharacteristic of Konami to use such strong words. Most of my friends here in Greece were saying the same thing. "Like wait a minute. Why do they call them Dogmatika? That is a very strong word deeply connected with religion. Like what the heck? Like this is actually a big radical change". I like it a lot, but I really don't know if it slipt there detection or what. Anyway one of the better name changes.
Also thanks again if you read the whole thing. :p

But instead Albaz out confusing and fear active his power and fused with the nexus and became the steel dragon and try to get away or something. Keras (κέρας) means horn in Greek. It is a reference to a literary image from ancient Greek and Latin literature, first found in the Odyssey, where dream spirits (Oneiroi, singular Oneiros) are divided between those who deceive men with false visions, who arrive to Earth through a gate of ivory, and those who announce a future that will come to pass, who arrive through a gate of horn. It's a play on the words κέρας (horn) / κραίνω (fulfill), and ἐλέφας (ivory) / ἐλεφαίρομαι (deceive)

What I found interesting was the striking parallels between Aleister the Invoker and Fallen of Albaz.
    • Both are one card fusions
    • Both takes the properties of the source of where they take their power from
Which leads me to think that Aleister might have encountered some Dogmatika influence for the forming of Invoked Mechaba (mainly because of the shared character design). And also being that they were both given beastial forms when in contact with a human instead (in Aleister's case he was given Caliga as a result of self experimentation, and in Fallen of Albaz' case he was given Brigand from his contact with Ecclesia). Although, Aleister's interaction was relative to Attributes, I believe Fallen of Albaz' interaction is relative to a monsters Type. One important note too:
I just watched your video regarding True Dracos and True Kings, and something clicked. Zefra pendulum monsters possesses the attributes of their counterparts outside the archetype, much like Luster Pendulum having a mutualistic relationship with others, and Lector Pendulum's powers were more of parasitic if not absorbing, much like Aleister's and Fallen of Albaz', which happens for all three of them to be all DARK attributed monsters, which I believe to be non-coincidental. Zefras were at war with the Infernoids, so there could be a link here as well.
