He was a ludex so powerful and so wise that he could manipulate weird demon shit to get a giant black arm and glowing red eyes. He could even manipulate noobs so harshly to the point of them quitting the game forever. Why make him part of royal family ? I could easily see him as someone from outside who would be fed a pile of lies like you said. He even got a kingly armour to make him feel special. Why would you waste a good heir when even Lorian was spared from being sacrificed more.

    • @velocitypeasant5832
      @velocitypeasant5832 Před 4 lety +80

      Lorian want spared. He wasn't fated to link the flame, as the one fated to was lothric. That's the poetry of their lore. One is worthy, yet not fated, and the other is fated, yet not worthy.

    • @wanderingbufoon
      @wanderingbufoon Před 4 lety +28

      Lorian and Lothric were twins. Lothric was the one that was meant to link the flame bit he ended up being weak and fragile.
      As for Gundyr, he was the one to link the flame after Lothric. It is seemingly a royal family duty. So it makes sense to why we consider him as part of the royal family.

    • @Kr10n1
      @Kr10n1 Před 4 lety +35

      @@wanderingbufoon I don't recall any mention about order of linking. All we know is Gundyr came late to the festivities and failed to meet his fire keeper. Also we fight him in untended gardens which seem to be a version of world when no bell did yet toll which would suggest Gundyr lived actually long before Lothric as he is at his prime at that point of time. Another proof it is a time from the past is the dialogue with old lady selling all the things. If we talk to here first in dark version, she then recalls us in normal firelink shrine

    • @wanderingbufoon
      @wanderingbufoon Před 4 lety +4

      @@Kr10n1 you can get it via context. Theres a religion about Frampt and as to why it became a tradition for the Lothric family to link the flame.

    You didn't mention the pus of man growing on Gundyr's back, which he then transforms into.
    Did it start growing as a result of the stagnation of humanity, since Gundyr has been waiting for a very long time for a worthy unkindled? Or is it somehow connected to Oceiros, which you suggested being his father, since you can find those enemies in the Consumed King's Garden? Is the pus of man an experiment of Oceiros trying to make a dragon since these beings are very similar to dragons/serpents? Did Oceiros, and so the royal family, somehow made him grow the pus of man through experiments to enforce his role of judge, so that they would be sure whoever beated him was worthy and had the strength to link the fire? The pus of man is in fact weak to fire, and it represents humanity, the age of man, opposed to the age of fire.

    • @hkazu63
      @hkazu63 Před 4 lety +51

      Notable then that pus of man enemies seemingly only exist in areas of Lothric. One in the High Wall, four around Lothric Castle and two in the Consumed King’s garden. Gundyr is the only enemy with the pus of man not found in the Lothric Castle areas.

    • @MartijnTV
      @MartijnTV Před 4 lety +23

      Seeing as the Pus of Man was also apparent on those dragons on Lothric Castle, perhaps Oceiros was doing experiments trying to somehow harvest drake-ness with the Puss of Man, and infecting people with it thus trying to transfer said drake-ness.

    The Lothric bloodline is only a feature of this particular age of fire. They would not have existed in the previous age that Gundyr is a relic of. True, there are surviving entities that persist from previous ages such as Patches, but that entails surviving and not hollowing through the entire age of dark. (Way to go Patches. He survived ALL of the dark ages) So for this theory to be true, we must assume that Lothric's bloodline not only survived at least one age of dark, but also that they failed to link the fire before the princes were ever born. There are too many assumptions here with little evidence to support. It also breaks the narrative, as the Lothric bloodline is said to have made its name by linking the fire. That means potentially this age of fire could be the longest there has ever been thanks to their efforts. Doesn't make a lot of sense for them to fail before this age ever gets started.
    A good theory, but Gundyr so far seems to be yet another relic of the thousands of cycles that came before. A man from a kingdom whose name is just as irrelevant as any.

    • @bluethunderbolt9631
      @bluethunderbolt9631 Před 4 lety

      It is possible that the events in the Untended Graves aren't taking place during an Age of Dark, but that the entire ordeal is due to the lack of light.
      The "Repair" sorcery states that "Light is time, and the reversal of its effects is a forbidden art". We also know that Oceiros, in his infatuation with Seath, went mad with knowledge, outright turning himself into an imperfect dragon. Perhaps, in his madness, he stole the light from the Graves, dooming the entire area to stagnation.
      The king of Old Gundyr's helmet is modeled after is probably an old, or maybe even the first, king of Lothric.
      Just a bunch of theories, of course, but I believe it's worth considering them.

    I suspect that gundyr May have been sent to firelink shrine some time before twin princes betrayed the flame and in his journey to get to the shrine they then chose to stop linking the fire after being persuaded by the pontiff and then may have sent the black knights there to “extinguish the flame” in order to stop gundyr from getting closer to link it, this also gives us a somewhat specific timeframe as to when the people were infected with the oil monsters, my theory for those is that they evolve into the butterfly’s they are shown to be able to posses great knights like dragon slayer amour.
    (I’d like to see others opinions on this)

    • @ULTIMATEGOOSE01
      @ULTIMATEGOOSE01 Před 4 lety +3

      Gundyr, maybe close to royal family, sent to guard but told to link the fire, arrives to find nothing at the shrine, there never was anything there for him, all he had was the job of being at the shrine, betrayed by the royals he wasn't special or strong, defeated by an ashen champion, then replaced with a puss of Man controlling the suit like the butterflies did with dragon armour, Gundyr isn't alive in present, just a shell with no ember encasing a mindless blob.
      If the encounter with Gundyr is only meant to embolden an ashen, then we could say that the main ashen is also tricked like Gundyr was, since likely Ocierus created them, he loves dragons, and dragons don't want the fire, and humans reign in the darkness.
      Maybe Gundyr is Ocelot, the failed Dragon baby, cast aside and given this cruel fate.

    4:10 There are ingame statues of a previous king in Lothric that somewhat match the design of Gundyr. I assume it must be a statue of Oceiros before he was consumed since they are found in the Grand Archives. 🤔 you know since the untended graves is Gundyr’s future but our past, I’ve began to pick up a few thoughts:
    When you start the game there’s a coiled sword placed within him basically killing/diminishing the darkness inside of him, when we get to the past though there isn’t any Reminence of a sword....... could it have been the past ashes which fell before him and only the last ash before us actually successfully immobilizing him before his own death?
    It seems plausible because when we pull the sword out of him present day he is still alive or atleast the monster is anyway and like you mentioned, we were the true ash to become what gundyr strived to be yet wasn’t destined to be that, so we end his suffering.
    Also i feel since everyone parished in gundyr’s time, that the fire wasnt linked but was instead (as the second ending implies & the eyes you find of the dead firekeeper) used to put the world into complete darkness, i think those specific eyes we picked up are the reason the firekeeper in our time decided to put the world back into complete darkness, i think the past firekeepers vision from her eyes is what made the present firekeeper do so.
    Lol i know im probably late as hell but i found it interesting

I think the betrayal can be further elaborated on by the presence of that "coincidental" invader npc, Daughter of Crystal, Krimheld, who happens to be a member of the Black Hand; and happens to be conspicuously wearing a firekeeper set, which I think she stole from her mark.

Because as you said the Firstborn son also betrayed the gods, it would make far more sense to me that Havel would seek out the Firstborn for help or for advice to take down the gods.

    Have you heard of the tragedy of Champion Gundyr? I thought not, it’s not a story the Lothric bloodline would tell you. It’s a firekeeper legend...

  • @m33tballa
    @m33tballa Před 3 měsíci

    I think they're trying to impress that gundyr is more ancient than the lothiric line. His armor design seems to be from a completely different time period and possibly culture. Maybe vendrick, maybe Gwyn, or someone in between. The style looks ancient, even rock like, it evokes havels armor. The fact that is armor is cast iron is strange, it's either a mistranslation or suppose to indicate a lower quality or ancient method. You would never cast iron to make armor, it'd be brittle as shit. Cheap and easy to make on mass. So maybe that's insinuating that the armor was made in a time before forging. but on the other hand, it would be difficult and absurd to produce cast armor that has intrinsic detail which makes me think back again to it being a mistranslation. He's not the only character who's armor is said to be cast iron, which like I said, cast iron would make a terrible armor for anyone in any period

    I don't think Gundyr was ever late. Something tells me someone intended for the flame to die, because the Firekeeper had eyes, so someone in the family must've given them to her. It's like someone wanted the flame to die before Gundyr got there, and all of the stories of "The Champion arriving late" is a fabrication within the lore that was spread so far that all the people believed it. "History written by the victor" type thing.
    But what doesn't make sense is, if the goal of this Grand Betrayer is to find the REAL champion to make sure the flame doesn't die, then why let it die in the first place? Why would they even give the Firekeeper those eyes?
    Perhaps it was the Queen aka Gundyr's mother who betrayed the entire family. I think everyone in the family truly believed Gundyr was to be a Champion, and though Gwynevere is a Goddess of Sunlight, the pain of what King Oceiros was doing to his family with his mad experiments was too much for her and after the birth of Ocelotte she left. This means that she betrayed Gundyr by giving the Firekeeper the eyes, but still loved her son and watched over him and the graves, snuffing the pain of that world out, and letting her son be a judge for the True Champion of the Flame to come.

    my English is very bad, so I will write as soon as I can
    I think a piece of chain refers to the fact that Gundyr was in the Irithil dungeons. the Pontiff is conducting his experiments there. Gundyr became the Pontiff's test subject. He was sent to the Consumed King's garden, where he was infected with the "abyss" (its second stage in Untended Graves) which then turned into pus of man. but I don't fully understand the concept of Untended graves. why is the passage there in the Oceiroses room? is it just a memory, or is it some kind of copy of the past recreated in the garden of Oceiros? could the Pontiff or Oceiros to send the infected champion in this "copy" specially?

    I just finished the game and it was fucking great one of the goat.
    Now for my theory.
    -Untended graves is in the past for some reason is being consumed by the abyss
    -its probably gundyr failed to link the fire hence late to the festivities or his literally "late" and the festivities could also means gathering which what we did in the firelink shrine . He also fail to meet the firekeeper which doesnt says for the first time it could mean he just failed to complete his task to link the flame and he took the sword to stop the abyss from sinking in him but as we see him in the present he was infected.
    Now i think that the firelink shrine is an illusion made by someone like the ds1 anor lomdo and the ds3 ringed city and the eyes of the first firekeeper is not a prophecy but a vision to see through the illusion that linking the flames = good.
    Now for the first fire keeper eyes.
    It doesnt mean that the corpse there is the first firekeeper its possible that she just got it from somewhere cause she cant be the first fire keeper as there are already five throne which means that its not the first cycle since gwynn light up the flame.
    Now for ludleth of courland. (This is just mostly assumption)
    Courland is the ring city as its the home of the pygmy lord i read somewhere that he call himself pygmy and it just a translation interpretation and he also looks like one of the pygmy lords. now whos keeping the ring city afloat? Gwynns daughter fillanore and thats why he always willing to sacrifice himself to the flame.
    More questions
    whos doing the illusion for the firelink shrine?
    Suspect 1 yurya so she can get anri??
    Number 2 handmaiden? Well she got motive as she can be one of gwynns underling or she is a former firekeeper is she blind? Looks like one of the hags in ds 2 which are firekeepers. And if she is she might as well be the first firekeeperand its a ruse. As if.
    Sorry for the long post and bad english. i tried.

    It is said Gundyr was defeated by an unknown champion, it doesn't mean it could be the ashen one. Since Champion Gundyr is an optional boss, it is unclear wether it is the Ashen one who defeated him in Untended graves. Although, i have a possible theory, could be wrong, but during the cinematic at the beginning of the game, we can inherently see Soul of Cinder dragging a corpse, unknown who but it is noticably feminine. Moreover, we also do recognize that we could pick up the eyes of a firekeeper in Untended graves, so ultimately, the firekeeper is obviously dead or possibly killed. "When the link of fire is threatened, the bell tolls, unearthering the old lords of cinders from their graves..." Who rang the bell, you may ask, when the fire is threatened, it self, as a curse of Gwyn's, will attempt to collect more souls to fuel it. So apparently the soul of cinder was manifested when the fire was greatly in danger. Even before the bell tolls, Lordran was dark as the first flame was fading. In addition to that, the bell of awakening is located on top of the firelink shrine, so there are probabilities something/someone had to travel there to ring it. Undoubtedly, who would be the first one to ring it? Obviously the Soul of Cinder, it's even coherently potraited in the cover of the game, he was roaming around in Lordran. Last evidence, the coiled sword is literally an option of weapon the Soul of Cinder would use, thus represents day clear trace of the Soul of Cinder. With all of those evidence, we can safely assume, the Soul of Cinder was the one who rung the bell, and was the champion who encountered Gundyr because he was in his way.
