    Just started new job today. Never used one before, so simple but so clever, now I know how to use one. Great video thank you.

    Having a hook end with a "keeper" on it makes it much easier. That way when you move to the other side of the load/trailer you can be fairly sure it hasn't fallen off your rail or anchor point. Nice clear video, BTW. Very useful tips.

    One should put at least one twist in each strap to stop the damn things 'humming'.

    Do not forget to check that the hook on the other side has not come open before you move off.

    Just had to check that I hadn't been strapping the Bobcat down wrong for years, all good. Ratchet straps are so much nicer to use than the chain dogs on the excavator, nothing like getting bitten by those bastards on a frosty morning.

    Useful video but I was told to put a twist in the strap if it’s not tight to a surface to keep it from vibrating so much. The reasoning behind that was if I didn’t the vibration would wear the straps and cargo and be noisy.

      Apparently it’s illegal in Australia now.. at least on the ratchet side because it reduces load strength

    Lol okay Mr. expert. First of all, it’s illegal to put a twist in the strap in Australia nowadays. (That’s where he is). Second of all, he secured the excess just fine. Only improvement that can be made is to take that loop and twist it around the strap. Won’t go anywhere.

    Strap should be twisted because when you're going down the road dot will stop you and you will more than likely getting fined for that just cuz its wobbling so overall pretty much good video

    ratchet should be on high side drivers side

    • @thechumpsbeendumped.7797
      @thechumpsbeendumped.7797 Před 6 lety +4

      Craig Coburn I disagree, if it’s on the drivers side and for some reason you need to tighten it on the motorway/freeway you’ll be in a dangerous place with vehicles passing close while ratcheting. Its far safer to put it on the passenger side and be away from the fast traffic when working.

    Why would this guy say something so ridiculous like “make sure the strap is not twisted”? He’s wrong!
    I’ve been a Trucker for 40 years.
    Anytime you’re going to have a minimum of 4 foot length of strap on each side of whatever you’re strapping down ALWAYS put a twist in your strap. If you don’t put a twist in the strap it will vibrate in the wind like a guitar string. Not only will it make noise it will also damage the side of the cargo being carried depending on what it is. If the load isn’t taller than 4 feet then you really don’t need to put a twist in the strap because there’s not enough length of strap to vibrate.
    Rolling up the excess length of strap the way this guy did is also ridiculous because it WILL NOT stay. It will unravel in the wind.
    It’s quite obvious to me that this guy is a rookie driver and hasn’t learned much yet. I hope he learns how to properly secure a load without hurting someone else in the meantime. 😏😖
