Public Key Infrastructure - What is a PKI? - Cryptography - Practical TLS

- Throughout this course, we've been discussing three key players: Client, Server, and Certificate Authority. These three identities create what's known as a PKI, or a Public Key Infrastructure. Each element of a PKI serves a specific purpose:
- Servers - Need to prove their Identity
- Clients - Need to validate an Identity
- Certificate Authority - Governs the whole process by issuing identities (in the form of Certificates) to Servers.
Most of us are familiar with the public web PKI, these are the Client/Server/CAs that secure every HTTPS website on the Internet. But there are other PKIs that exist, like Code signing PKIs, or even Internal website PKIs.
This lesson is a free sample lesson from the the greatest TLS and SSL training course ever created. No instructor rambling on about pointless stories. No slides with massive walls of text. No time wasting. Only simple, effective, and precise explanations. Complimented with practical illustrations and visuals.

No way this man helped me clear my thoughts on PKI in less than 6 minutes. Big appreciation.
This is my go-to guy for any networking concept I'm struggling with. And he always delivers!! Thanks a lot, man.
Loved the simplicity with which the whole course explains the concepts. Kudos to the creater👍
Thank you, I spent a whole just trying to understand this concept, and you finished it in 5 minutes. Thank You
Glad you enjoyed it =)
Thank you so much - you teach way better than my teacher at university!
I use to study through INE but I didn't get the full image about cryptography , watching this course free in youtube make feel guilty.
thank you from the bottom of my heart
Straightforward explanation. Thank you
Thanks Ed. I was beginning to think that you reneged on the promise to post every Monday. I would be missing the nuggets you give. Thank God you are keeping up! Another great vid. I like the real world examples to you give, these make it real.
Ha =) Nearly missed my promise. The weekend was my birthday weekend, so I was out of town with a few friends. Back now, and back to regularly scheduled content. Next video is unpacking the RSA algorithm... which will release, on Monday =).
@@PracticalNetworking Wishing you a belated happy birthday, my good teacher!
@@adedejiemmanuel1 Thanks Azza =)
Man superb video and this pace is perfect ❤ Thank you.
You always make complex subject very simple.
Thank you for the kind words! ;)
Although my English is weak, but I understand your lessons very well, because of your simple explanation and graphic presentation. Thank you so much
That's awesome! I'm glad the content is reaching a wider audience. Cheers!
@@PracticalNetworking Italian here. You are so great in teaching
Great explanation. Thank you for sharing!
Another great video in this cryptography series, always very detailed and with good examples. Keep up this great work! It would be awesome to have a future video on secure management of encryption keys. KMS, HSM, HSM as a Service, even the key lifecycle. Topics that are very related to the series although not many people talk about it
Thanks for the kind words, Mateus.
While KMS/HSM/et al would be interesting, the main purpose of these videos were to communicate what is needed to understand SSL / TLS. Other then briefly mentioning what an HSM is, I don't go into much more detail in the full course =/
If you'd be interested in making a video discussing it, I'd be happy to refer to it, and/or post it on my channel. Message me on discord! (pracnet.net/discord)
@@PracticalNetworking Got it, yeah KMS would run from the main idea. You're one of the best channels I found on this stuff. I would love to make videos on this but I am nowhere near your knowledge of computer networks and cryptography yet. I am here to learn from you. I do intend on talking about Key Management Systems sometime, especially to the Brazilian tech community who desperately needs to have this available.
@@materubass Got to start somewhere =). Good luck with the endeavor!
Quite clear and concise, thanks
very well explained. thank you
Like always Perfect Video, Thanks 👍
Thanks Rafay!
Thank you this fundamentally builds and strengthens the understanding of concept and the only channel Ive respected so far. Just a suggestion, would be even better if more linking of the concept to an example of a real world is done. For example in case of CA of corporate and installation, still not clear or see a vivid picture of what CA is in reality
Next week is DH. The week after is DSA. Then the week after I have a video planned that will teach exactly what you're looking for.
Remember, all these videos are free samples from my full course. You might want to explore that if you want a full overview of all this.
love the intro music
very good explanation help me a lot to undersdand this concepts
very clear video very informative , Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Hello Ed,
which tool do _you_ use for creating your presentations? (If you were intending to answer without wanting to be specific, just state "n/a", else just don't respond.)
Aside from my (maybe stupid )question: As always, your presentations are "hevorragend"/excellent.
Not a stupid question at all =). I use PowerPoint for the slides, and IPEVO annotator for the disappearing ink effect.
Glad you enjoy the content =).
Awesome. Can't thank you enough.
Hi Ajay. You're welcome!
great explanation , i've gotten that clearly
New to the channel, terrific content!
Welcome Elle! Glad you're here. Glad you enjoy the content =)
Awesome video! cheers and good luck to all the entries for the course giveaway :)
Thank you. Good luck to you too, James =)

@@PracticalNetworking Thanks for the course, Ed! (J_S)
Very good video.
Great video thank you.
Thank you, Umut. Cheers.
way to go Eddie, proud of you getting this content out there on CZcams. Happy for your success here - Trevor, Rackspace... (You hired me!)
Trevor! Hey bud, long time no chat =). Hope all is well on your side of the world =)
You're still the best!👌👍
Thank you, Azza =)
Hey, @Practical Networking you make a great video, and thanks for such a great initiative of giving scholarships. I am doing my undergraduate in Computer Engineering from India. I really like your content. You explain even the toughest concept in a very simple and easy-to-understand manner. I have already watched almost all the videos on your youtube channel. I really want to learn more about TLS in-depth if you give me this scholarship then it will really help me a lot. I request you to please consider me for the scholarship. Also waiting for move videos.
Good luck with the giveaway, Nadim =). It's random, but if you don't get it, reach out to me on Discord.
@@PracticalNetworking Thank You
good video, thanks!
You're welcome !
Awesome!
=)
Very nice.. can you share the slides?
Hello,
Is programming skills required to study "Encryption, Public Key Infrastructure Architecture and Administration" subject ?
As this is one of the subjects in pg diploma
No you don't need Programming skills to understand Encryption / PKI.
is there a possibility to spoof the CA? I mean if anyone can generate key pair and spoof the server, anyone can sign and spoof right?
very practical
;)
It's good explanation.. but needs more Graphical Presentation which can make more easy to understand and also more interesting.
Thanks for the feedback, Mahesh. Which parts need more visuals? Did you see the videos before this?
👍
