"This attack is exclusive to The Arena / The True Arena"

The secret final phase only happens in the Extra Story Mode, not in the regular True Arena.
The dark corruption from the inside still lingers following the Soul of Dark Bowser's previous defeat. It ultimately reveals its soul form, resembling a large dark blue orb, scaring the cursed Bowser Jr. away and retreats as the secret final phase commences. This will now require another 100 strikes to the head. The soul orb-like form of Soul of Dark Bowser starts shrieking towards the player, signaling the start of the very last battle. This part only occurs in the Extra Story Mode's true final level, found in the second and final half of the Dark Side Realm, specifically in "A Journey's True End".
The Soul of Dark Bowser's orb-like form starts attacking the player by shooting out fireballs, streams of claw swipes that are small yet lethal, including white ones that can be used to shoot back at it. As the fight progresses, it becomes tougher and tougher, with the fireballs moving faster. Eventually, the soul-like orb gains the ability to slam the ground, creating spikes that move at a fast pace and are quite hard to dodge, and can sometimes teleport in randomly fast speeds. It even shoots meteorites similar to Bowser's but at a faster rate, while it can also shoot out lasers from both of its hand-like claws. Eventually, it starts using Soul-themed attacks from various video games all crammed up into one at the same time. Additionally, it causes the gameplay to be flipped or rotated otherwise.
Once the Soul of Dark Bowser's orb-like form is defeated, it will enter a series of death throes before returning to the center of the arena and pulsates violently. As it dies, it releases three last-ditch series of horizontal waves to try and take out Mario. First it releases one wave at either the top or bottom of the screen depending on positioning, then one wave at the center of the screen, and finally one wave at both the top and the bottom of the screen. The waves do massive damage that increases with each subsequent wave, and because of how the health system works, the final hit is an instant defeat unless Mario contains a backup powerup. The waves also ignore all forms of invulnerability, including the invincibility frames after being hit by a previous attack, and the Super Star. Besides physically avoiding them, the only ways to evade them are to dodge with perfect timing or use the Clown Car to evade its attacks.
After Mario survives the energy waves, the soul-like orb rises, shakes out of control, screeches violently, and starts to dissipate into nothingness. After that it regrows back at a very fast rate, and then is banished through a dimensional rift as he cries out to the player one final time. The portal then vanishes onward, but not before the Dark Side Realm starts to disintegrate, before being sucked up into a black hole-like rift where the soul-like orb is defeated, then it starts to gradually explode, being fractured into twenty pieces, then crumbling them, defeating the Soul of Dark Bowser's forms for good. Additionally, the same shriek is now combined with a scream and a screech, alongside a large shout-like roar for the very final time. This bloodcurdling combination of sounds ultimately led to a shockwave which surprisingly restores all the worlds, including Peach's Castle (from what was left of the Dark Castle) and the Superstar Road back to normal, followed by a special final cutscene, the true secret credits, and the attainment of 100% completion with all 5 or 10 stars depending on the pathway.
Completing this level ultimately unlocks a secret True Arena-like game mode called The True Final Arena, representing the very final challenge, and is designed to be the most challenging level in the game, in which it adds the same secret phase from the Extra Story Mode to the The True Final Arena, although it is not required for 100% completion as it is simply a "trophy" for those who truly completed the game from start to finish.
