Thanks to you all for the nice comments about my cars. I just want to add a couple thoughts about this car that I didn't mention on the video. For now I consider this a nice driver quality car that I will drive, show, and enjoy for a while. It is such a rare and beautiful car that I will treat it to a complete [no expense spared] restoration by the very talented Mike Swedal at some point. The car deserves to be preserved for future generations as many of my cars are. I like preserving a small piece of American history with these cars.🚙

Great to see "Mr. Mopar" Randy Guyer again with another awesome specimen, a 1959 Dodge DeSoto Adventurer convertible! That 383 dual quad engine sounds healthy, and the overall look of this DeSoto is spectacular! The sad fact is that these cars are becoming more rare. These old Mopars look awesome going down the road! Randy has such a phenomenal collection of classic Mopar Chrysler/Dodge cars, and it's always a joy whenever he shares his cars with you Lou!

Mopar's first 383 in 59 was a RB (raised block) like the later 413.....bore and stroke was 4.03 x 3.75 rather than the 4.25 x 3.375 of the later low deck 383's.

Hi Lou how lucky is Randy to have that one Mopar not only fall but jump right into his lap. At least he didn’t have to leave his home 🏡 🏠 state to acquire that amazing, awesome, beautiful gorgeous, magnificent, marvelous, splendrous and wondrous piece of art 🖼️. Lou back in the day the big 3 of Ford Chrysler and GM not only had artisans they had craftsmen as well it is a crying 😢 😭 shame you don’t see that type of artisanship and craftsmanship anymore.
At least you not only knew what 😊you had back then but you knew of what you owned. Today it’s a whole different story the cars and suv’s just don’t attract attention to me and doesn’t excite me the way the Antique, Classic and Vintage Rides of the Big Three did. Understand you cannot hold, keep and stop progress from progressing but i wish this new generation would take quite a few cues and tips from the Artisans,Craftsmen Builders, Makers and Manufacturers of the Big Three did back in the day.

Hi Lou! That is a car that was hardly seen when new, and the total production of 97 (yes, _ninety-seven!)_ explains it. And the owner says there are only 15 known to exist today. Now THAT is rare! And those unique trim pieces must be _very_ difficult to find today. And with swivel seats, too (a first, by the way)! This car looks as though it could have driven itself right out of an old black-and-white classic movie. This car looks so similar to the Chrysler; only differences are, of course, the grille and the taillights. And the way the speedometer changes colors - so cool for 1959! Where do you see something like that today?

Another iconic high performance beautiful Virgil Exner-designed Mopar! Final year of the high performance inline dual Carter carbureted DeSoto Adventurer model line - 350 hp 383” RB wedge motor.
First year of Chrysler’s front swivel seats, standard in some models and optional in others, that were available for 3 years, in ‘59-‘61 models. Our government, that’s of course here to protect us, would never allow this now - the seat pivoting on one post, with airbags flying at us from 20 different directions these days. A few early production ‘60 DeSotos and Chrysler sedans even had the seats connected by cable to the doors, that swiveled the seats when the doors were opened.

Another great trip down Memory Lane. I learned to drive on a55 Firedome. (One model year before the first ADVENTURER) In early 1960, parents passed up chance to buy a 59 ADVENTURER two door hardtop (white and exactly like this beauty). Like the Fin Land reference. Parents also passed chance to buy the last new 61 DeSoto in our community. Both are extremely important and rare monuments to the grand finale of Exners fabulous finned fantasies! It's Delightful 🎶It's Delightful 🎵It's DeSoto! 🎶 and tell them GROUCHO sent you! 😉 worst part of my story is that in June of 62, parents traded our 55 for a new 62 Plymouth Belvedere (one of the ugliest cars ever built)!

    1959 DeSoto Adventurer.
The DeSoto brand would be introduced by Walter Chrysler (The person that founded Chrysler) in the late 1920s (Specifically, 1928) that would be the middle-end brand according to the rules of Corporate Hierarchy (Ranking brands from least luxurious to most luxurious. In this case, it was originally Plymouth, DeSoto, Dodge, and Chrysler. But many years ahead, it would be Plymouth, Dodge, DeSoto, Chrysler, and Imperial). DeSoto would introduce many iconic models back then such as the Firedome, Adventurer, and Six, that introduced similar styling, engines, and technology similar to the many cars Chrysler and its subsidiaries made back in the 1930s-1950s. The car company would unfortunately eventually go defunct in 1961, 33 years after it was founded, selling approximately 2,000,000 to 2,500,000 cars and trucks throughout the years.
The company's last car would be the 1961 DeSoto (It had no model name). The design of the car had a complicated front end, featuring a basket-shaped grille with two headlights stacking on top and below each other. It also had an ovular grille with the "D E S O T O" badging above it. The side featured rectangular-shaped turn signals. The rear end had taillights that were fin-shaped, rectangular turn signals that would wrap around the rear fascia, and "D E S O T O" badging along with a broom-shaped metal trim.
For the 1959 DeSoto Adventurer, the design was similar to that of the Imperial but with many major differences. The front end had two headlights on each side, a gold-colored grille in "four-corners" style along with two other vents with fence-shaped grilles, a gold DeSoto emblem, and metal "D E S O T O" badging, and two hood ornaments on each side of the car. The sides of the car had gold-colored trim and "Adventurer" badges on both sides of the car. The rear end of the car had three circular taillights, a DeSoto emblem at the rear, and the "DESOTO" badging on the right side of the car. The 1959 DeSoto Adventurer was available with only a 341 Cubic Inch Chrysler Hemi V8 producing 345 HP. The average cost of a 59 DeSoto was $4500 to $4700 ($47,100 to $49,200 today).
