Audi RSQ8 vs Porsche Cayenne GTS - 1000hp of super SUVs! | MOTOR

  • Fast SUVs aren’t exactly a new prospect. Remember the Turbo Territory? But these aren’t fast SUV’s - these are super SUV’s! Between them, the Audi RSQ8 and the Porsche Cayenne GTS pack a little over 1000hp and enough torque to change the rotation of the globe. But does that make them a better option than the trusty RS6 wagon? Alex Inwood has the hard task of finding out.

    I drove both vehicles and I am 6 foot two. I bought the RS Q8. This car is like a magnet on the roadway. No matter how hard I push the vehicle it never loses traction or control. I did have the resonator removed and it sounds a lot better. I also change the tires to Michelin 325/35 ZR 23 tires. Also the dual Google earth navigation display and 23 inch rims that Porsche doesn’t offer. All I can say, it comes down to personal preference and Audi is the clear winner in my mind.

      The guy in the video says himself that the Cayenne GTS is the most driver-oriented SUV. After a few minutes it turns out that it doesn't go around corners as well as the RS Q8...Because the Cayenne GTS doesn't have ''Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus'' and also doesn't have ''Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control''!
      The RS Q8 probably also had the "active roll stabilization" (Like i said the Porsche doesn't )which is "Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control" just with Audi's name.

    Should've been SQ8 (500hp) v Cayenne GTS (450hp) or RSQ8 v Cayenne Turbo (not the e-hybrid) instead of this unfair comparo, even if they both have the same v8 and underpinning.

    • @motorofficial
      @motorofficial  Před 3 lety +9

      @Iceberg 47 in Australia the two in our test are very closely matched for price. The SQ8 is not as comparable dollar-wise even if it is power-wise. Cayenne Turbo down under is about $50k more than the RSQ8, which is why we looked at the GTS

  • @jpando9066

    I think the two cars are fair to compare as a buyer of these two...it was a perfect compare. After driving both, I had to go with GTS Coupe on overall driving feel, interior, emotions from the sound and brand. The GTS with some basic options costs slightly more than the RSQ8 but basically the same. Pricing varies greatly depending on location, but nobody buys the Cayenne GTS Coupe at base level and this test car didn't appear to have some must have performance options. The handling with rear axle steering and PDCC is FAR better than the RSQ8...no comparison. The straight line powers is just MORE in the Audi (its the only reason to consider the car). The sound and overall emotions of driving the car goes to the GTS which most reviewers say. Most people such as I a plan to add a simple performance tune to the GTS V8 getting the power in the same neighborhood as the Audi so your basically buying a drivers tuned Cayenne Turbo for about 30-50K less. The inside of the Audi is well......an Audi and at that price point it isn't special enough.

    • @motorofficial
      @motorofficial  Před 3 lety +3

      @Jason Pandolfo good points! Yes our GTS was definitely missing some preferred options, but even as a “base” spec it is such a beast of a car. With the extra boxes ticked, the Porsche could well trump the Audi but the raw speed of the RSQ8 is hard to look past. If it were my money, I would have to have many long walks on the beach to decide which one to buy.
      Thanks for watching!

      @@motorofficial I’ve had 8 Porsches and have a 971 Panamera Turbo now (just showing my bias here). I compared the GTS Cayenne to the RSQ8 and bought the RSQ8. Fantastic all round car..... BUT
      If you don’t need the SUV bit then the Panamera Turbo is even better. :-)

I hardly ever used the performance at the extreme end of both so the experience and emotion readily available on the GTS won me over.

    Please don’t get me wrong, I like the video but this comparison is limping.
    The basic RS Q8 (130500 €/ 205794 AUD) hasn’t the anti roll stabilization, it’ll cost you (4500€/ 7096 AUD), the dynamic package cost you 13600€/ 21446 AUD).
    So the Audi is at 135000€/ 212891 AUD).
    Now the GTS, it sounds that it’s a basic model you’ve taken to compare...that’s limping in my humble opinion. Take the basic model for 115634€/ 182351 AUD) plus PDCC (3272,50/ AUD 5160,64), Air suspension (2136€/ 3368 AUD) and hind rear steering (2046€/ 3226 AUD). Completed with these options the GTS costs 123088,50€/ 194107,11AUD or take the Cayenne Turbo with a suitable equipment...who cares about 10/ 15k more or less. 😉

This was a mismatched comparison of the RS-Q8 with 591 H.P. and the Porsche GTS with the 453 H.P. without the PDCC and active rear steering and it was also unfair. The Porsche Cayenne Turbo with 541 H.P. and 3.7 0 to 60 with chrono would have been more fair and the Cayenne Turbo GT at 3.1 0 to 60 and 631 H.P. would beat them all and all Porsche's fitted with the correct suspension options stated above would match or beat all Audi's by comparison. I had to give this review a thumbs down because it seemed you were gaslighting everyone with this mismatched comparison while you were laughing and giggling along(what was that all about?) with this review.

      It’s all about price point. These two are very comparable whereas everything else you mentioned is ludicrously more expensive. The constant in this video was price (all though I think it’s fair to assume the GTS should have been specked with a few more performance options to make it reasonable), and the Audi clearly delivers more for the price.

    Why would anyone bother to compare two cars optioned so differently and try to draw any useful conclusions at all. Porsche makes a Hybrid Turbo Cayenne, so why would you not use it for a comparison with the Audi Hybrid Turbo? It makes no sense whatsoever. Incredibly annoying. They could have been optioned very closely and then a comparison would be informative and useful. This mess is not useful - fun to watch, yes, but not useful. The Audi is a great SUV, and I would love to have one, but you stacked deck so far in its favor that the comparison was over before you ever got behind the wheel. I assume that they are comparable in price, but you did not talk about that - at all. The Porsche is better built with higher end materials (unless you prefer plastic to leather/metal), but you did not choose to mention this, either. The Audi shown has wonderful brakes and wheels, but you could have put similar wheels and PCCB brakes on the Porsche as well. As noted by others, the Porsche you drove was optioned without PDCC (active anti-roll) and 4 wheel steering. Why you choose to stack the deck as you did is a puzzler to me. Given what you presented, I would prefer the Audi as well, because it is a loaded top of the line car. And you compared it to a middle of the road Cayenne, not the Turbo, or Turbo SE, either of which would have been a better comparison. I can draw no conclusions from this video other than it was fun to watch, and if that is all you wanted to achieve, then congratulations, you succeeded. Imparting useful information? You failed miserably.

      @@GamersoutletNet1337 - I had to re-watch this, as it had been a while. I just disagree with your observation. if you watched the whole video you would see that they said the Porsche was cheaper, and you would have also noted that this is the only substantive reference to money made in the video at all. So, no, Money was not the point of the comparison. If you do some research, on Audi and Porsche websites, you find that the Audi is 600 pounds heavier and costs a whopping $10,000 more that the Porsche at MSRP in the USA. The Porsche Cayenne Coupe GTS option package was what they tested, no extras (it is a good option list). The Audi had special wheels and special tires ($3K), special brakes ($9K) - all high priced options that add at least $12K to the price, and likely more (could not tell from the video). The Audi is more than 20% more expensive than the Porsche, and 12% heavier. So, no the MSRPs are not the same - they are not even close to being the same. The cars are not the same either, or even similar. It is not a comparison of value for money, as you say, because if true, one might then pick the Porsche and save $22K. Bet you thought the Audi was cheaper. The Audi is much bigger and much heavier, it is just a different car., err.......SUV. I am even more convinced that this was one of the dumbest comparisons I have ever watched, now having watched it twice. There will not be a third time. And yet, I still love the Audi.
