    • @tsaoh5572
      @tsaoh5572 Před 3 lety +27

      PrettyFancyNancy MSP Its just Chinese (actually: Asia as a whole) culture though. Ever since they’re small kids, they’re taught to undersell their achievements - not because you don’t want to brag, but because if you start being content with what you did, you stop wanting to improve. (This is not what I believe, but what multiple Asians -kids, students, parents, Korean, Chinese, Thai- told me). I’m convinced she isn’t humblebragging, but that she genuinely believes what she says.
      An admission of your parents that ‘you did well’ or that they are ‘proud’ of you is very rare from Asian parents. For them to admit that, would be to admit to their child that they don’t need to accomplish more in life (the horror of any Asian parent: a complacent child).
      I prefer my culture’s way, where nobody really gives a crap about all your grades in schools and all these accolades and fake internships/societies/‘presidentships’ or whatever don’t mean anything to most people. In the Netherlands, we tend to be more laid back and we don’t jump over a thousand corpses to get into ‘the best’ universities - of course to some extent people do, but not nearly as stressfully as in the US. But then again thats how I was raised so I don’t know any better either.

    • @shaya6429
      @shaya6429 Před 3 lety +6

      @@tsaoh5572 that’s actually accurate! As an Indian I’ve always been told to take the losses more importantly than the wins, because then you understand what you did wrong and how you can improve. Bragging about it is considered extremely rude because it’s like you’re reminding people you’re better than them (which isn’t necessarily true) and you’ll be ignoring all the improvements you can make.
      While this mindset def helped me a lot, it’s still a very unhealthy mindset and I don’t recommend it to anyone. It’s completely okay to celebrate as revel in your accomplishments, I mean you did it and nailed it. Just don’t let it get to your head!

    I think I have finally decided I want to go on to be a nautical engineer for the US Navy, and MIT is one of the few schools they accept degrees from. I'm sitting here with a 4.0 GPA, even though it should be lower because the honors classes I have taken have 4 extra points added in. What I've got from this video is that I need to step up my study habits for my last three years in high school, and get more involved with the engineering clubs I am in. In a few years time, if I remember, I think I'll come back to this video and update if I somehow did the impossible and made it in.

    • @loganmartin59
      @loganmartin59 Před 9 měsíci

      @@sho.sinha_ I was very heavily involved in GATSA. Never made finalist, but I was involved in electrathon through TSA. I did NHS, NTHS, and helped start a club myself. I think the club I started is what looked the best for me, even though it flopped. I was the co-head editor of our schools CZcams channel as well. My TSA advisor is a Tech Alumni and he wrote my recommendation letter, which I also think helped. But really what I think did it for me was that I’m from a rural area, which is a diversity point for them. Finished off with a 1320 SAT, and a 4.0. But as I’ve spent time here, I realize not all that was necessary. If you really want to get in, you should be able to. What motivated me was to always remember, someone always has to be last in class. And even if you’re last in class at Georgia Tech, you still got in.

      You should try to take your APs in junior year because colleges dont get the scores from senior year. All APs in senior year are really good for are the credits. And also dont worry abt how you did in freshman year because colleges mostly look at sophomore and junior year so just try your best to do well now! 👍

      Toriii_ k You just have to take it . No excuses :(
      Tho your not rlly fluent in english, if you read lots of books and memorize vocabularies, you might get a high score. I’m also a foreigner studying for the sat reading. I went to the prep for the summer and made it 1230(first try) to 1520. To be honest, sat reading not always test you how much you’re good at English. You have to take it with strategy in limited time
