- We're doing something a little different today, with a tutorial video! We've been playing Spelunky 2 lately, and with all of the mystery and misinformation floating around about the super-secret final area, the Cosmic Ocean, we thought we'd cut together all the tips and tricks we knew in a step-by-step guide to getting through to the final area of the game.

Turns out you just get turned into a constellation after beating 7-98, different for each character

It's not that it's different for each character but rather what conditions you full filled before beating 7-99.
i.e: you rescued more than 16 cats and gave more than 24 sacrifices to kali.
The constellation would be named Cattus Fidelis and the shape and number of stars would be dependant on the amount of hearts you had when you finished. The characters only affect the color tint of the stars. And no you cannot collect them all since the constellation gets overwritten after a new one is made.

Both VERY NICE especially for a cosmic ocean run, but not "REQUIRED".
1:41 - Black market can appear in level 2-4, not only the first three levels.
This is a good call. I didn't realize till after we were done filming this that it's not it's own level like it was in the first game.
Also the black market does not spawn on 2-1

It makes sense if there is no end to the Cosmic Ocean. It would make the top of daily challenge leaderboards interesting.
As much as I want to believe there's this hugely secret third boss/ending to the game, I think this theory makes the most sense.
it doesn't feel like a game designed by derek yu. for example, in spelunky 1 interactions are universal (roguelike staple) and there are no story items (udjat, ankh etc) with a single purpose. there are no loose ends.
i can't believe there could be 2 boring levels in the game with no real purpose (in one you get some crown, the other is a complete dead end), and there's no connection between them. that's just not how spelunky works.
@@calinguga The crown is Vlad's castle is considered a "royal item" so its the equivalent of getting the hedjet, just on the Volcana path instead. Its far from useless.
To my understanding currently, each character has a different ""ending"" at the end of the cosmic ocean, at the end of the 98th level. No one has even used a cheat engine yet to get all of these ""endings"" to see if anything else happens.
@@lakefish7743 a streamer named twigglesoft got an ending with classic guy. each character does have an "ending" if you can call it that, its a constellation with a combo of 2 Lattin words.
Only just got into Spelunky and I have to say I’m ashamed I didn’t find it sooner. The way the community works together to find these secrets is amazing
It's SUCH a good game. We were so excited when we heard they were finally releasing Spelunky 2. And watching the community slowly uncover each of these secrets in the game has been so much fun over the past couple weeks.

This game is so much more complex than I originally thought!! I was thinking the first game was complex with all its secrets, but this one was definitely worth the wait
It's a trip. I was going to include a brief rundown of the big secret in the first game for people who were new to the series, but I scrapped it when I realized how much longer it would make the video 😂

Looks like Wolf got to 7-99 using a cheat engine, and got a kind of anticlimactic 3rd ending. Of course there's still the possibility of needing an item or solving a puzzle of some type to get a better ending, but we'll update this comment if we hear any more news on the subject.
What about using the alien compass in the Cosmic Ocean? Might be worth a shot.
@@42mrrio87 he had an Alien Compass on him in the run from the looks of it. I don't think it did anything special for him
It's speculated that you have to get it on both paths and then with eggplant
Btw if you plan on going to Duat and have an item like Vlad's Cape or a jetpack make sure to drop it off at Wadler in the Olmec chamber too or else you'll loose it, you can try to find him again in ice caves later to get your item back (make sure you leave the bow for Sunken City tho)
@@mob7740 Some people prefer other mobility items over jetpack.
The cosmic ocean has been beaten by now, it ends at level 99 and you turn into a star constellation

In the game's official soundtrack, there is a mysterious track that has never been heard ingame yet. This could be a hint that there exists a top secret area for finding a way to beat the Cosmic Ocean.
I think I saw Wolf post the same track you're talking about the other day. It's called Constellation isn't it? I'm very eager to find out where it belongs.

It's crazy. There are so many steps involved to do it.
I haven't watched a guide for a game I haven't played before in a long time. The game seems way too hard for me but that was fun to see how complicated and challenging it is.
It's such an interesting game! There's so much packed into it to find that we didn't even touch on in this video.

Made it to Sunken City with the bow but didn't know the dart traps were poisonous. And right before the star challenge...had to bail.

Yes. As far as I've seen so far, that's the only way I know to get one.
I see why there's so much speculation about the Clone Gun now. I didnt realize the bow was so special, and I hadn't gotten that arrow yet.
We've been hearing a lot about the clone gun lately. Between that, the elixer, the broken sword, and Madame Tusk, we think there's still plenty left to be uncovered.
You can also skip olmec by bombing specific spaces so that you can enter the top ankh room whi,e on top of olmecs head
Can you pop the bubbles on the jelly's tail? Maybe by sending projectiles wrapping around the map?
You can also keep the ankh in tide pool if done correctly
Well... now we know you can in fact beat the cosmic ocean

Ah, waddler is needed for the duat path, because you have to die and lose your hand and back items, and the fancy bow is a hand item
Tide Pool doesn't strickly speaking need it, as you don't have to die to do it, but given that crossbows are kinda ... underwhelming as a weapon.
being forced to keep one in tide pool is not great
There's also a few points where you need to carry something that's not the bow from level to level. Excalibur in the Tide Pools and the Ushabti in Neo Babylon off the top of my head, unless you're attempting a Qilin skip.
Technically you could give the bow to a hired hand to carry for you in those cases, but that seems like a lot more trouble than just dropping it off with Waddler.
I got qilin to 6-4 for the first time today!

You don't need the keelan to do the parkour, i've seen it be done with just ropes
Dude, I couldn't even beat the city of gold in Spelunky. So far on Spelunky 2 I've made it to Vlad and got killed. And the Ice Caves are the furthest level I've gotten to.
I am intimidated by this game, but I'm sure that will go away wene I play it. I did this with hollow knight
It's definitely worth trying. There's a lot to find in it, but the best and easiest way to learn everything is to just jump in.

do you have to make olmec go through the bottom into the lava for all this to work?
That’s the way you’re “supposed” to do it. There are a bunch of tricks and strategies out there now to skip big parts of this process though. “Olmec Skip” is the keyword you’ll want to look up if you want to get the Ankh without going through that whole fight.
Is there some kind of way to find Waddler consistantly?
I really don't want to miss my bow when I get to Sunken City again.
I'll be honest, I haven't made it to the Sunken City enough times to know the answer to this. When we did it in our Playthrough series, and when I've seen other people get there in other videos, the door is always out in the open somewhere. I don't know if that's always the case though.
I beat her on my first try...Got here by journeying on and looking for new areas.
First things first, brilliant video! Second, I am not sure if this would work, but is it possible to have the ghost in the cosmic ocean, because if so that could possible kill the jellyfish or vise versa. Just a hypothesis but I think it’s worth a try.
After 3 minutes in cosmic ocean another jelly fish comes out instead of ghost.
As there's no ghost pot and kali's altar exist you can't see ghost in there.
I don't think there would be a way to summon ghost...
That's an interesting thought, but like AMB pointed out, from what we've seen it's just another jelly that spawns instead of the ghost.
Love learning how to get to the secret "ending" makes me feel like finding out about hell when i was small and had a tiny brain in spelunky 1

Possibly. As I understand it, someone just got there with it the other day and the game immediately crashed.
Personally I think this theory is unlikely. Since it relies so heavily on RNG, you aren't guaranteed to be able to get the eggplant crown on every run.
I’m pretty sure you can also get the eggplant by sacrificing a present to Kali. It’s worked for me every time I could do it (only twice...)

yeah, the eggplant crown + the alien compass is probably the way to go in my opinion
@@MOSHBITS you're not guaranteed to get the eggplant itself either (in spelunky 1 at least) so i don't think rng is an actual rebuttal
Would it be possible to somehow get the bow, arrow, and clone gun all together? If possible there is something below for more experienced people to try.
For some reason I can't get this out of my head. The clone gun has 3 uses, one for the bow and arrow separate, put those cloned pieces together, then clone the whole thing. See what happens shooting Hundun with that.
I haven't heard of anyone trying to clone the bow or the arrow yet, so this is an interesting thought. I'm not sure whether you'd be able to get past Abzu though, since to my knowledge Excalibur is the only thing that will damage Kingu, and this would involve you carrying both Excalibur and the Clone gun through the levels exits in 4-2 and 4-3.
Unless there's another way to kill Kingu, or if Waddler also appears in the Tide Pools somewhere that I'm not aware of. OR if a real pro could get a hired hand to carry one of the needed items?
@@MOSHBITS you don't actually need the sword to kill Kingu I believe that drawing the sword allows Kingu to be killed, I believe you can use bombs to damage Kingu after pulling the sword.
@@MOSHBITS also having a hired help carry something through a stage isn't an unheard of concept from Mr. Yu, the eggplant run from Spelunky 1 required this right?

As far as we're aware, no. You've got to kill Hundun and leave through the normal exit there to get Classic Guy.
Remember when the highest level anyone could get was between 30-40?

No, the ghost does not spawn on Olmecs level.
You can take khilin to sunken city in multiplayer

All of this was helpful, but I found it odd that you didn't mention Van Horsing
He just isn't really critical to getting to the CO, and at the time we didn't really know a whole lot about him. We know now that he makes getting the crown a little easier, but he's hardly necessary for this.

That rope method probably wasn’t the best strategy, but it actually used to work really well for us! They’ve changed the Olmec fight so much since then that there’s no way it would work now though.

People have a theory about the eggplant crown and the cosmic ocean, which I’m testing right now
I've mentioned this a few times in these comments, but I'll be extremely surprised if it has anything to do with the eggplant crown. I think the True Crown or the Alien Compass are far more likely candidates.
What’s the point of sacrificing yourself? Someone else went to the cosmic oceans without??
If you choose to go the Temple route you have to sacrifice yourself in the city of gold to move on to Duat. If you go the Tide Pool route, there are ways to avoid using your Ankh, but they weren't intentional by the developers.

This one is a big possibility, based on the journal description. I think a couple people have gotten to the Ocean with it but so far all I know is that it points to the exit of the stage, where the regular compass doesn't.
