      Jacob, the various rules for IBO or ASA can be found on the internet. ASA has many classes that allow scope lens and clarifiers in the peep. It's basically trial and error but you should be able to find a combination that will give you a clear pin AND target. Try to find a shop ( not likeCabelas etc) that has these products to try. It is pricey to order the various parts only to find they aren't right for your vision factors. There IS NO standard one fits all. It can be aa pain to get it all correct but it is well worth it- you can seetargets clearly

    Great video! I'm looking to get into 3D next season. Great idea the way you are doing g mock practice. I will be doing this.
    Question, what power binos are you using? I'm trying to decide between 8x42 and 10x42 for both 3D and general hunting.

  • @timbow50
    @timbow50 Před 3 lety

    When I shoot the 40 yard max hunting class and speed is close to 285 fps the 3 pins set up I use for gap is like 23/24 yards- 31-32 and bottom pin is 37 yards. Very very few target distances are on even numbers like 20 or 30 yards. Knowing your arrow drop trajectory is vital. It's not hard to remember two basic drop numbers between 32 down to 24 and 37 down to 32. This is for target score Archery not really for hunting as you will normally use heavier hunting arrows and the drop is more. All you need to do is find a speed where the drops are less than 5" because that's the basic diameter of the ASA 10 ring for score. If the target is at 27/28 yards, use the top pin set at 23/24 and hold to the top of the 10 ring. The arrow will fall down into the 10 score. For me this, for most shots keep my aiming point inside or on the 10 ring line. Those targets that are within a yard or two of their actual sheeting are the ones that you can try for the 12 ring on a lot easier.

    Hi mom (From Australia!!)

  • @sahhull
    @sahhull Před 3 lety +1

    I'd love to have a go at that, but here in the UK.. Bow hunting is illegal and 3d (bow hunter) archery just isnt that popular.
    However in the airgun target scene...
    I used to shoot Field target...
    That is targets are at unknown ranges between 5 and 55 yards... The targets are knock down style targets with an active 1 inch kill zone... 1 point for a knock down 0 for hitting steel or a miss. You can use adjustable high mag scopes with parallax adjustment to range the target.
    As an alternative cheaper form to this there is hunter field target..
    Targets are still unknown but rifle scopes are non adjustable, non range finding
    It is scored 2 points for a knock down, 1 point for hitting steel, 0 for a miss.
    The targets are generally steel silhouette's of typical airgun quarry.... Rabbits, rats, pigeons... Tho to keep the PC brigade happy they are starting to use generic shapes :-/

    Quick question. I recently got into compound archery and bought a budget bow. Im assuming it doesn't have the best string because after putting about 250 shots in at 60lb, my peep sight rotated. Im aware that's a sign of string stretch. However, can string stretch also throw off cam timing? (My bow has a duel cam system)

    • @averagejackarchery
      @averagejackarchery  Před 3 lety

      I do not shoot at those distances, no. As sacreligious as it sounds, I think shooting out there at 70+ is an enormous waste of one's time if they can't hold a sub 2" group at 20-30-40. Aka normal hunting ranges.

  • @colingregory7464
    @colingregory7464 Před 2 lety

    If you judging and you have a tendency to over or under on the guess you can set the tape or pins to your miss read average, to allow for your tendency, just make sure you switch back when you shoot marked, do they ever give you 2, 3, 4yd shots (they are dead easy instinctive, but the marks change very quick on a sight that close and its really annoying missing can't miss, poke it with a stick targets )

    • @colingregory7464
      @colingregory7464 Před 4 měsíci

      When I was shooting WELL ! Shooting 5 pin relative to a moving scope made no noticeable difference to my score relative to the scope sight shooters, when I shot well I was with them and if I didn't shoot well I mostly got my arrows back ! My major reason for liking pins was lack of hassle, guess distance, then shoot, no sight fiddling (have had a tendency to forget to move sight !), always loved 5 pin for IFAA marked

    • @colingregory7464
      @colingregory7464 Před 4 měsíci

      I would suggest that you try to remember that if you are struggling on a course there is a decent chance that other people are also struggling, different courses can push the scores of almost everyone on the course up or down.
      Chasing a score based on being up or down on a score level for the field that you probably have no certainty of, will often not go well.
      Telling yourself that you will/might hit a tree is a really good way to promote the possibility in your head and push you into the tree. Look at the tree and assess the risk move if you need to and as much as you are allowed to, to minimize the risk, having decided on your shot "strategy" and position. Forget the tree and shoot the target and your spot. Sometimes you shoot the tree, hopefully you aren't using x10's. I don't like breaking arrows ! But at least cheaper arrows cost less !

    • @colingregory7464
      @colingregory7464 Před 3 měsíci

      I have always loved the relative simplicity of 5 pin, for me I shoot with the scopes, everything is unmarked here (pretty much), most of the comps here have no distance limit (have shot beyond 100), for me judging it makes almost no difference with pins or moving, for the most part the judging mitigates a great deal of the benefit of perfect/accurate sight marks, when I shoot well I am competitive with the scopes and when I shoot poorly I mostly get my arrows back !! I've always loved field spots with multiple arrows for a group on the spot, especially when there are ups and downs to add interest and challenge
