5 year late reply, but here’s my answer to the last question i guess. i think claude stopped not because of ciels order but because of his own shock. alois, as demonstrated in this scene, has always been the person to take salvation when offered, needed or wanted, because his goal is to just feel happy/loved and he wants to take his revenge in order to achieve that; therefore, he actually cares about his own wellbeing and whether or not he lives - “i don’t want to die”. however, ciel wants to take revenge for the sake of it, to inflict pain and suffering and righteous punishment on those who wronged him, not to be happy, because he has no dreams of that sort - he knows he will die. therefore, he cares less when things happen to him, as long as he gets his revenge. in this scene, he orders sebastian to stay back and wants to fight on his own to feel satisfied with his own SELF accomplishment and by punishing the one who wronged him. this shocks claude because he’s never met such a master who wants to achieve revenge themselves, and not plead for the help of their demon butler like alois does. i think in that moment he started to lose his desire for alois’ soul and that’s why he was so surprised, that someone like ciel existed. he still saved alois later on, but i think it took a moment for him to acknowledge ciels order and think about why sebastian wants his soul that much, and then he realised he’s still alois’ butler and quickly came to his aid. long and late response, but i think this is the best answer ive thought up.
