Ren is extremely gifted with creativity. I think someone needs to cast him in a major movie as well. The guy can sing, rap, play music and act. Really enjoyed your reaction...but did you say Ren can sing A LITTLE (or something like that)?! Man, for me, he's the Larry Bird of music-- he does EVERYTHING, and he does it all killer good...and both are, to me, geniuses in their own way (even Dr. J said Bird was a genius, and I've heard a lot of folks apply the same word to Ren...including Ren himself, in "Hi Ren," when he's defending himself against his negative/destructive/belittling inner voice).
I don't yet know how much of his stuff you've listened to-- when I have more time I'm gonna check your list of videos-- but if you haven't watched this one, please check it out/react to it-- you will love it, and as with so many other times watching Ren, be taken by total surprise by his virtuosity. If you haven't seen him do this kind of music (won't say it, don't want to ruin the surprise), I bet you'll be floored!

"I know he can sing a little bit"? A little bit? That's either the understatement of the year, or you haven't heard him sing much. :) Ren has incredible vocals! Capable of multiple voices, styles and tones and always drenched with emotion. :)
Ironically, having said that, this is one of my least favourite Ren tracks, largely because it's lacking that real emotion. It's a slick performance and I still like it. It just feels a bit mainstream, run of the mill, generic R&B, to me. Perhaps it's partly the song itself? It sounded like a watered down version of a great Massive Attack track, just not as engaging. I'll have to check it out, to see. As I said, it's done beautifully. It just lacked that 'oomph' or that emotional or intellectual depth, for me. It's ok... I enjoyed Ren's mini guitar solos and the little guitar-bass jam. Even if the cameraman was too fixated on the backing singers to show us much of that. Things improved from the rap onwards, I thought. His performance of Message in a Bottle was great. I suppose I would have preferred more of that and less of Back in 74, lol. :)
I agree about the first song, BUT, I really enjoyed the performance. Knowing how Ren can vary his vocal range is promising for future performances.

Have you checked out his HUGE catalog of original songs? This stuff is just for us fans while we await his next album. He's currently in medical treatment 5 days a week so the fact he can produce anything at all right now is a big deal.
