I've always felt that buffy was confused about who she wanted because faith because I see more chemistry with them then any of the love interest buffy has had
And I think that buffy would have been a epic more storyline if it was her who came out and not Willow and the gang didn't expect it that would be rlly epic

I felt the same way, also with Wynonna Earp and Supergirl.
But somehow even the most open-minded shows keep the main character straight. Or kinda worse, ambiguous and teasing the fanbase!
The ship SuperCorp is similar to Buffy and Faith, in having huge chemistry but insisting they are 'just friends'. Then add scenes that most people don't notice but make shippers lose their minds. It may be masochistic, but the whole 'will they / won't they' tension may even be better than a straight up relationship.
I think the creators fear a lgbt main character relation will make the entire show revolve around it. Have other characters be lgbt has the advantage it can be so casually accepted, like it doesn't matter. And indeed not lose any part of the fanbase.
