Hey! The Dreamweaver spindoctors have more action with the fly rigged on the fin side, Dreamweaver has it marked wrong on the 8” spin doctor package but they have it marked right on the 10” package lol. You won’t have to troll as fast with the fly rigged on the fin side . Awesome video though ! Lots of awesome info 👍🏻

I just found this out a couple months ago too I was watching a Dreamweaver video on spin doctors and they actually said that they made an error on the 8” package, fin side more action which will allow you To troll at that 2.2-2.5 and have the same action as trolling at 3.0 with it rigged on the other side. Would help with blowback on riggers to obviously going at those speeds than 3.0, tight lines guys !
I run a 16 ft tinner nothing big. Usually run out of 50 point and I usually fish the west end. I run two rods off my riggers and two wing rods with divers to cover the shallow water. I started out running simple spoons off flashers with no real color combos or consideration to colors at depths. I have to say guys your videos have really opened my eyes to setups baits and flasher bait combos not to mention matching colors. I changed my game and landed a 2 yr chinook on fathers day. Just getting to using flys and have considered meat rigs once I get flys going. Again thank you!! Guys like you help guys like me. See you out there. Be safe!

We appreciate your time to leave your comment. There is a time and place for meat behind big flashers but I’d rather run a program of flys on doctors as they are more predictable. I find Colours are subjective although I do like to keep it simple when having confidence in a colour combo. I hope what we’ve experienced over the years can offer some different programs outside your usual spread.

I’m from Montreal and new to trolling for salmon and lakers, and have never fished (my craft) on Lake Ontario. We’ve focused on Lake Champlain last two years, and have really done well with the lakers( trolling and jigging), and can really vouch for the Spin Doctors and hair flies out here.
Thinking of fishing LO week of Aug 16-22/ wind dependent), as I have a 17.5’ Lund Pro sport V w/ 90 hrsp) and a good friend just returned from a guided trip last two days and they smashed them right outside Toronto (350 metres off shore). Gonna use a combo of riggers, lead core and dipseys(6rod spread) mixing stuff as you had. Would really appreciate any insight you can offer as to where we should focus our effort this time of year, as we’re new to salmon hunting, yet have watched 1000 videos so not that unfamiliar with the tactics! The shallow water approach makes sense for my craft, and will need to watch for the correct winds to keep water temp in the ideal zone for this time of year (what temp should we ideally look for this periods?).

The lake is in a transition period now where the kings are starting to think about running the rivers. We call these stagers as they hang around river mouths darkening up then waiting for big rain falls to run typically early September
Stager fishing should line up well with your planned timing mid august.
The fly program is extremely successful got these kings as they are more inclined to bite out of agitation then hungers.
We typically find the stager fish around river mouths like the ganaraska crefit Bronte or where ever salmon run. We can fish as shallow as 20 feet out to 80 depending on where they are. They fish typically move around in packs as they are starting to pair up for mating with males chasing the females. Fast doctors and flys are perfect often triggering double headers when passing baits by multiple aggressive competing kings.

Our 8 colour with a green nuke doctor and crinkle fly is our go to after 8 o’clock and has caught some game changers. Highly recommended
It is a very nice and instructive video. And this is mostly about Salmon fishing. Today is May 23-2024. I am fishing in Humber Bay, in front of Toronto Islands and further east up to Ashbridge's park. Can Laker be caught on depth of 60'-70' this time? The air temp is 65°F water surf is 56°F. I would like to hear your opinion about this.

Sorry for the late reply. I’ve been forced to step away from the water for a bit but can still chyme in on messages like this. Although we’re a week since your message it would typically be tough to find lake trout in that area most of the season. May is a good time for lakers but when in the west end of Lake Ontario I would recommend the south shore spanning from the Niagara river to Hamilton and the north shore typically has some good lake trout fishing from Oakville to hamilton. I like the bronte area best. I don’t find Temperatures play a big roll when targeting lakers. The majority of lakers ontarios lake trout population like deep cold water. We often fish 60 to 100 ft of water when in Bronte aiming our baits several feet off bottom. With either mag spoons or a flasher/deep rig combo. I find spoons are the most rewarding fight as these deep lake trout are not the hardest fighting fish until near surface so the least resistance bait like a spoon helps with that. Jigging is also another great technique if equipped with spot lock on the trolling motor. If I were in Humber bay this time of year I’d point towards the east gap where you can often find some kings including a deep water program. Extremely deep 150 plus.

Great vid, I feel alot better about not having a probe. Also going to bump up the speed once and awhile.
Probes are used by most which are also successful which I can appreciate. I just like to keep a open mind outside of just numbers.

This was a great video. I’m from Minnesota and fish superior and Lake Michigan. 6 years into this new adventure. My question to you is about rods and reels. Looks like you use some Telora rods too. I have a Lund Barron and want to keep 12 rods stored in the rod locker. My thought is to use all Telora rods (8’ and 9’) and shimano Tekota reels. I like the heavier Telora rods with the SS guides. The Tekota reels and small enough to fit nicely down below. I’d keep my std rods and then swap reels depending on lines. I can safely get to 4 color on the Tekota 600’s. Can you recommend rods for DR’s, divers, and planers. Thanks

We’re a big fan of longer medium heavy rods. Either 9’6 or 10 ft as they help for controlling fish at the transom. Although I don’t think they are ideal for the locker. We leave our starting line up in the track rod holders while storing out leads on ocuma lead core rods. We strictly run the Daiwa due to confidence along with a good understanding of how the drags react when filling up the spools with long leads. We like the rod trees for storage opposed to lockers. I guess iwhat I’m saying less restrictions in a arms reach goes along way for us
