He should never have taken her back. She assumed the worst about him rather than show him trust and have faith in his integrity. Her love is only fair weather and nightingales, and when the rain comes next, she will fail him again.
The girl is oddly hypocritical. When the Capt whom she is supposedly in love with is detailed on the mission to transport the prisoner, she is only slightly worried. But when the Lt is detailed for the same in his place she jumps to conclusions and deems it cruel of the Capt to have the Lt detailed on the deadly mission. And when the Lt is killed she blames the Capt not in the least bothered that the same fate could have befallen the Capt, whom she supposedly loves, if he had gone.
Yeah! Doesn’t she know the Capt was under orders!? Women must have been pretty ignorant back then ... according to the script. After all, it’s just a movie!
I see many comments, for and against. Can't you all see this is only a movie, not the real thing? It's just fantasy hoping that whoever will watch won't use the brain.
It was actually that actor Gregory Peck, who played the leading role as captain, in 'Only the Valiant' became a Yankee mule in the end to fall for such a woman like her!He should have married a squaw instead!
A movie for the whole family to enjoy. Better then the garbage hollywood puts out today. Sreen wrter harry brown wrote the famous ww2 novel "a walk in the sun."
300 Spartans held a front 10 times wider than this pass with spear and shield against thousands . This misfit rabble cannot hold one 10 feet wide with rifles. Who made up this rubbish ?
Sorts of skips over the atrocities committed by US Army on native population. This inclusion would have made this a very deep film as the interaction between the officer and his men is actually very well presented.

The thumbs up was for Barbara Payton. She looked great in the movie.
According to IMDb she died of heart attack at age 39, probably why I don't recall seeing her in other films.
@@Acme633 "Kiss tomorrow goodbye ", opposite James Cagney. It's on you tube.
I like good ole westerners like this.
It's an unknown movie to me, but I enjoyed it. Gregory Peck is one of my Favourite. Barbara Payton and more actors are unknown to me as this movie...

Gatlin guns first appeared in the Civil War, probably 15-20 years before this is set.
Great western with some great old stars!
A well deserved 🍺👏

Quero filmes de faroeste dublado ou com legendas em português.
What happened to the two men fighting while the Indians watched? That was the silliest scene.

Why did the Indians rush the Gatling gun only to surrender? They could have run away from it easily to fight another day.
Script say Surrender! not run away. Get paid, follow script.

The egos of sensationalism from the script writers ~ for our entertainment!
One was real, one was a movie.
