Also if the glasses are not good quality UV filtering ones you can "burn out" the bottom of your eyes, since your pupil dilates because of the shade.

Sunglasses are a big deal for me, living in Arizona where we consistently hit 115+ degrees every summer.
I have, over the years, gone through many different brands and types of lenses.
The best, in my opinion, are Persol shades, with polarized lenses.
They are a bit more than others, but very much worth it.
They are hand made in Italy, with the frames made of corn acetate, making them cool to the touch, even after sitting out in the sun for a while...no burns on your ears or nose... My favorites are model 714, the Steve McQueen special edition (he wore them for many years, after they were used in his role in The Thomas Crown Affair).
They fold small enough to fit in your pocket, the arms have an additional set of hinges to fold in half, making them very small.
This model also has the 24k gold plated polarized lenses, they cut out all the uv and still retain such detail and light that they are far superior to most others.
Other models/styles can be seen in many movies, such as the shades Daniel Craig wears in the Bond films...all Persol.
Sorry, nerded out on that for a minute...like I said, shades are a big deal in Arizona.
