Make sure in the bill of sale you add, 'As is with any and all faults'. I had someone come back to me and claimed the frame was bent on a bike I sold. I bought it new, never downed it and always took care of it. They had it for a month then tried to come back with that claim and tried to sue me. It turned out they were trying to pull a fast one on me but because I had that in the bill of sale I was protected.
This summer I managed to sell two vehicles, my 2008 Versys 650 and my 1994 Land Cruiser. I bought the Versys for $2,000 and sold it for $2,500. I bought the Land Cruiser for $2,700 and sold it for $3,300. The biggest things that lead to that profit, even as a first time seller, was 1: transparency with stuff like cosmetic damage and blemishes cause neither was a picture-perfect example. If you're honest and you just tell them exactly what happened then they will be more likely to buy. 2: list price. Let's say you're wanting to get minimum of $4,250 for your thing. List it at about $5,000 and if someone takes it for the list price, great. But most experienced buyers will want to negotiate. And leaving that room to whittle the price down is going to help them be confident that they negotiated successfully and you still got what you wanted, most times even more. But don't be a pushover and flat-out say "Hey, the lowest I'll take is $4,250. I just wanted to see if I got lucky and someone was impulsive and would pay $5,000 for it." Act stricter on the price. If they end up finding something wrong with it that you missed, then you can say "Well, I can take off as much as it will cost to get that fixed. How about $4,700?" Make the price negotiations take a while so they feel accomplished and you still get what you wanted from it. 3: PATIENCE!!!!! Be patient. Take as much time as you can if you have to. If someone is offering you what is really a crap deal, but you don't have anyone else offering? Don't feel bad to tell them that you're going to wait and see if other offers come up. It took me a month to sell my Versys and 2 months to sell the Land Cruiser. Very rarely will you find a deal where the exact day it was listed the bike/car/truck was sold. I say that yet the Nightster I bought after selling the Versys I found half an hour after it was listed, looked at it a couple hours later, and bought it that day after doing a test ride. But that was just the right bike in the right circumstances. It's about finding the right buyer, not the first buyer. Finally 4: DO NOT take any of the following forms of payment. Split payments (X amount of money every week/month), services, check, Paypal transfers not done as a gift (if it isn't done as a gift then the buyer can claim a fraudulent charge and get their money back, leaving them with the vehicle and money and you with nothing), trades that you don't want/don't know about the item being traded or it's actual value (someone tried to trade my Land Cruiser in exchange for: a box of comic books, a rusted-out 80's era Mazda truck that didn't have a transmission and had a blown motor, a bicycle, a kegerator that was not worth even $1,000 brand new, and a trailer with a broken axle), etc. Don't get scammed. Don't be stuck with another vehicle to sell that you didn't want or have room for. Don't get stuck with something worthless because the buyer tricked you into believing that what they were trading was worth your vehicle.

Good tips. I like a longer copy on the ad. The more you have to say in the ad. bullet points, etc., the longer a potential buyer will be engaged with it = greater chance of taking the next step.

i appreciate the tips. however, I was looking to find out how people deal with someone who wants to test-ride my bike. I'm really wary of letting others ride my bike. I think in total, only 2 people have ridden it beside me... my dad and my cousin. Both I could trust. So what would you suggest how to handle someone wanting to ride your bike before they buy or offer?
I've heard some people want cash up front and they can take the cash back if they change their mind. Some take their license from them and give it back after the ride... but that's not a deterrent from stealing it. How do others sell bikes and keep a modicum of security and safety?
As far as security goes you need cash in hand, it’s a must for you. Assuming they bring a truck as well they need to keep the vehicle there so be wary if it’s just one or two or more people. Cash is hand is the way to go. If they still don’t like it just give the cash back when the bike is there. If they don’t know how to ride then it is another factor about the bike and if the title is in your name. Meet at a parking lot at best so they can ride around hopefully safely but if they drop the bike it’s now theirs. Stray away from cars and busy streets because you are liable until they sign the title.

I tend to buy high, and sell low. I bought my current daily rider new in 2003 because of that! I live bike swaps vicariously through YOUR videos.

I like sportbikes but hate electronic "rider aids" so a 2012 CBR1000R is about it for me anymore. I tend to get the bikes I always wanted and keep them.

Case by case basis for me (I make a judgment call after meeting/speaking with the individual). Safest bet is to have cash in hand. 💯👌
Does that mean test ride is ok if they potential buyer shows that they have cash? Test ride question seems to be an area of risk in the process.

How much for the warrior?
i have a 2015 yamaha R6 i want to sell i still owe 3k on the bike. the bike in my area is work around atleast 9K. any recommendations of how i should go about doing this? should i pay it off then sell it or how can i sell it now?
Always being courteous can never hurt the seller or the buyer. I like meeting at the buyers bank and getting a cashiers check from the teller or banker direct,( I just don't like carrying more than $100 on me) often you can get the title notarized there too. Some times I will notarize the title as soon as I list it. If the buyer wants to pay cash I like meeting at my bank and having the teller check the bills. If I know the buyer personally, and trust them I'll take their personal check. I see bikes listed all the time saying "no title" or "title lost" that's poor marketing on the sellers part, don't make the buyer jump thru hoops to get it titled just pay for the duplicate title before you sell it. The ad copy should list the year, make, model, and mileage. If the odometer has been broken for a while say so. Have an absolute minimum 4 pics front, rear, each side and list mods and deletes and any issues with the drive train, dents or bad scratches and things that are missing or don't work.

@@AaronLives34 If they have an endorsement and we agree on a price contingent on a test ride and they have the cash. I hold the cash and they can test ride it.

That's a great question! I make a judgment call on a case by case basis. If the person has cash in hand, shows up with Helmet, has someone to drive their car back, etc. I'm more inclined to allow test rides. Safest bet is get cash in hand and some proof of insurance. I have heard horror stories before.

I’ve sold a lot of bikes in my day; this is what I have required for some time and it has been 100% successful. I require full asking price cash in my hand before a test ride, I require a valid M1, as well have them sign a very short and to the point waiver signed by myself and the rider. Waiver consists of waiving myself of any liability to the persons health/safety and states if the bike is dropped/damaged the sale of the bike initiates and I do not return the cash. As well states if the buyer returns the bike safely during the test ride I am obligated to return the cash I hold. I have never had a problem with this as I am fair but protect myself. Been around the block and make no mistake there are people who will drop your bike and take off without these in place as well as individuals who will try and sue you for medical costs or damages they cause while riding your bike. Protect yourself and I have never had a single person have an issue with these stipulations.

I’m selling my Honda 06 1300R only 11K miles good condition is it mandatory for me to purchase and print the vin history report to sell it? And in Nevada do I need to go to a notary or could I just produce a bill of sale via couple of blank pieces of papers w all the right information for both parties to sign?

Do you typically allow buyers to test drive a motorcycle?
I used to make a judgment call and ask to hold cash, but the way things are now with liability, etc. I'm not sure if i would. Maybe have em sign a waiver or something.
Do not use Venmo. Sender can protest of the payment and you have no recourse. I just had this happen to me, landlord withdrew security deposit return. Venmo did not support at all. I was able to find them, take them to court and win. You would not have that opportunity with a motorcycle buyer.
