So here are some interesting facts about One-Winged Angel.
Nobuo Uematsu's goal was to make an orchestra track that hit with the same kind of punch as a rock song, he also had never trained with, nor had he been in an orchestra prior to composing One-Winged Angel.
One-Winged Angel was the first-ever track in the Final Fantasy series to feature vocals.
Nobuo Uematsu used a very unique "puzzle piece" method to compose the song. To quote the man himself:
"It felt too boring to start the piece with an introduction, followed by melody A, melody B, a chorus and an ending, like most songs. I wanted to make something different, structurally. So without any preconceptions about how the song would turn out, I wrote down two to four measures of music that popped into my head every day until I got about 20 to 30 different measures. Then I took those different pieces and rearranged them to fit together well. That process of placing these various two-to-four measure pieces of music is how I composed 'One-Winged Angel'."

Honestly, having the knowledge of how the song was composed makes a world of sense with the dramatic differences in sound in each section, but it shows his real talent in still combining them all together into a coherent piece with a very singular feel.

I swear that if you continue to do these kinds of videos reacting to Final Fantasy VII soundtracks I will watch them all.
As someone who absolutely loves "video-game music" a.k.a. music, and Final Fantasy VII being my absolute favorite game of all time, it's lovely to see someone with no previous knowledge of the musical score who can still appreciate the mastercraft and love that was put into every single one of these tracks, it's also a bonus that you know enough of this craft yourself, being a musician and all, that you can then dissect and go through each piece and show why it's good or not so good, and what it did right or it did wrong.
Just to name a few more tracks worth giving a listen to (but it's oh so hard to name just a few, because I honestly believe that pretty much all of Final Fantasy VII's score is divine levels of good):
    - "Those Who Fight" (this is the standard battle theme)
    - "Those Who Fight Further" (this is the standard boss battle theme)
    - "Main Theme Of Final Fantasy VII" (pretty self-explanatory, it's also the theme of the protagonist - Cloud Strife)
    - "J-E-N-O-V-A" (this one is the boss battle theme of a character of the same name - Jenova)
    - "Aerith's Theme" (also pretty self-explanatory, the theme of the character - Aerith)
And there are many more other tracks, not just from Final Fantasy VII but from the rest of the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, that are also great as well like from Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core (prequel game) and Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (CGI movie sequel).
P.S. - Just now noticed that you've also done a video like this on Shadow Of The Colossus, and I kid you not that is my 2nd favorite game of all time, what are the chances of that, wow, I'm gonna watch that next. xD
I guess that you can kinda see now how I like my games - a perfect mixture between awesome story-telling and a beautiful soundtrack that work together to deliver an unforgettable experience.

He did do the full score of 14's INITIAL version (the one that turned out to be a really unpolished game), but the music for the rebooted version people play nowadays was done by other composers.

Honestly this was never trauma inducing for me. Quite the opposite, it was more of an epic final boss theme that while imposing never conveyed a sense of lethal menace. While the fight was visually and audibly bombastic it wasn’t all that difficult, and I remember finishing it (many times) before he could use Supernova. This likely had to do with maxing out my characters, making the final boss rush trivial. But I know that less OP playthroughs would encounter difficultly that would match this theme. I think that the PSX/PS2 Final Fantasies suffered from balancing issues in the end game, and scaled difficulty based on stats/ultimate weapons would’ve made these battles much more satisfying to win.
Now, this doesn’t take away anything from the music. Regardless of the balance issues it works effectively at conveying the sense that Sephiroth has obtained the power to end the world, and you must be the ones to take him out.

From the perspective of the FF series, Nobuo Uematsu really went very experimental with 7. While in VI he had consolidated his orchestral stuff (and it has some really beautiful tunes like Celes' opera and obviously Dancing Mad), I think VII is really cool and stands out because he started to play with synths a lot more (as you guessed, because they started going for a cyberpunk vibe). A good example is the song J-E-N-O-V-A, where it also mixes the orchestral stuff but the main melody is mostly played by a synth. He does it even more in the next game with songs like Man with the Machine Gun (I'm not that much of a fan of VIII but the music is just phenomenal)

Also had a Great OST based on the ones from the Game. (but movie quality)

I REALLY don't Fathom the Time it took to _RENDER_ those Blu-Ray HD CGI Graphics with all those CGI Special Effects and Fluidity (slow motions included) that still holds up today for the 100 minute long Movie, specially with the Tech at the Time...

It's better if You Played the actual Game 1st as You'd understand more of it's context for a lot of things.

Really shows the insane amount of talent and music Nobuo Uematsu put into this with the limited midi space he had. The first song, is the start of the game, its the music that pulls you in and sets the standard for the rest of the game. Great content! You got yourself a new subscriber.
FF7 is probably my favorite game of all time so of course I get that nostalgia hit when I hear the music. It's great to see you enjoyed the music even without that nostalgia bias!

Lots of personal opinion. I wouldn't call neither FF7 nor it's soundtrack the best in the franchise, but I love that game.
But then again the game that gets my praise is IX so I'm a controversial person

I get what you're saying about being happy to listen to it for the first time with more developed musical understanding, but I have to say, as someone who played this at the age of 11, it's also super interesting going back and understanding more of the nuances to the songs you just though was sick as a kid. Great video, thanks for your well crafted thoughs :D

Oh man you know you just opened Pandora's box with this reaction. All tracks from Final Fantasy VII are amazing, I remember watching my brother playing it when I was a kid, I didn't understand anything but the music stayed with me forever. You should definitely play the game and see how the music enhance every moment while playing.
There are so many amazing OST for console only games, they are too many to count. Some of my personal favourites are all final fantasy ost by Nobuo Uematsu, Journey, Shadow of the Colossus, Nier and Nier Automata, Final Fantasy type-0 (by Takaheru Ishimoto), anything from Yoko Shimomura (all kingdom hearts games, xenoblade chronicles and radiant historia), Persona 3 and 5, pretty much all Zelda games, The Silver Case (so weird but amazing), the Phoenix Wright games and The world ends with you.

@@AtlasBenighted yes, Austin Wintory is the composer of both soundtracks. I actually think the journey soundtrack is a "journey" on itself, my advice if you're going to listen to it is to actually listen to the whole thing start to finish, it's like a modern classical instrumental opera, it tells a story with its music.

Nobuo Uematsu in general! I have a top 15 list of all my favourite video game music. FF7 isnÂŽt even featured on there, if any I would have considered Don of the Slums or Listen to the Cries of the Planet!
Final Fantasy 8 had some great music as well and The Castle theme made it on my list. But FF9 still had the highest ranking with itÂŽs normal battle theme #1!

At least three years late, but never loses its relevance.
Nobuo Uematsu was the soul composer for the franchise from the first back in 86 (i think, may have been 87) through to IX (9) in 2001. He has a gift in his compositions to always come up with the perfect piece for the situation. If the piece feels plain or lacklustre, it's usually because the part he's composing for is very much the same. There is never a piece that feels out of place. Every soundtrack he's worked on has been a 10/10.
Uematsu is a legend. One of the GOATs of video game music.
