ষাটের দশকে বাংলা চলচ্চিত্র যখন উর্দু, কলকাতার বাংলা ও হিন্দি সিনেমার সঙ্গে পাল্লা দিচ্ছিল তখন হঠাৎ জহির রায়হানের হাত ধরে বাংলা চলচ্চিত্রে আগমন ঘটে নায়করাজ রাজ্জাকের। ১৯৬৮ সালে জহির রায়হানের ‘বেহুলা’ চলচ্চিত্রের মাধ্যমে সিনেমা জগতে পূর্ণাঙ্গ অভিষেক ঘটে নায়ক রাজ্জাকের। এর আগে সহকারী পরিচালক ও পার্শ্ব-চরিত্রে অভিনয় করলেও ‘বেহুলা’ আব্দুর রাজ্জাক নামের সাধারণ এক অভিনেতার নামের সঙ্গে নায়কের তকমা জুড়ে দেয়। তারপর একের পর এক হিট সিনেমা উপহার দিয়ে রাজ্জাক হয়ে ওঠেন নায়করাজ। তিনি প্রায় ৫শ’র বেশি চলচ্চিত্রে অভিনয় করেছেন।
