  • Challenger 1050 Tractor Pulling a 14 Bottom Plow in Illinois
    In this video I am out in the field with On Track Farming near Gibson City Illinois as they are doing some fall plowing. In the video you will see the farms Challenger 1050 tractor pulling a Salford 14 bottom moldboard plow as they plow under harvested corn ground to prepare it for soybeans for next spring planting. They are plowing around 6 inches deep as this works out good for the Noon GMO soybeans they grow.

    Now if you’re gonna be fall plowing ya gotta do it right. Open station tractor with a heat houser and straight pipe just screaming away in the frosty air. Lol. Nice setup. I’ve seen a lot of videos of guys out west plowing in a circle like that rather than in lands. Always wondered how they finished up the unplowed corners and the center when it gets to tight to turn.

      @cormacbrowne9571 Před 2 lety

      I don't know about the corners, but i have read that a suitable sized square should be ploughed in the centre of the field and then you plough in to meet it.

    What a great Christmas gift Mike, Thank You. It takes me back about 50 years to when we all ploughed. Of course an 8 bottom plough was huge back then, but still great memories. I actually "met" my wife of 32 years when I was in the 4440 with a JD expandable 6 bottom. Thanks again and Merry Christmas.

    I know one local used to swear wheat did better following on from OSR (Canola) after ploughing and then would deep rip with a Simba Great Plains tool that was like the Sumo Trio. But different things work for different ground, setups and people. Our neighbour gets on well hitting his wheat or barley fields a couple of times with his Vaderstad carrier discs then drilling OSR in with a tined drill or just direct drilling it in with everything else will get the top inch worked 3 times over several weeks to get any losses and weeds to germinate then killed off with the next pass before going over with his Trio once with the discs to smooth it over then drill with their disc drill
