  • Overdoses from heroin, fentanyl and other opioids are the leading cause of accidental death in North Carolina. In 2017, the WRAL Documentary "Searching For A Fix" shared personal stories of families who lost loved ones to overdose and examined the challenges of getting people addicted to opioids into treatment. The new WRAL Documentary "Finding A Fix" looks at how North Carolina's efforts to combat opioid addiction have changed and expanded in the years since. It also spotlights first responders, activists and key policy makers on the front lines of the epidemic.

@Mitchell 2020 My sister had this problem and it is no party. She was placed on subutex and she never did H again. It would have killed her. You are not alone. I am sure, like most, it stared innocently with a prescription. I almost saw her die trying to stop, to the point you pray she can get some more. The subutex made quitting an almost unnoticeable transfer. Only, it was safe and legal. Of course, in years to come it may prove to be harmful but it is a good alternative to help now. I can almost bet it is better for you than H or worse fentinol. Let me further say that I have seen first hand that methadone is physically harder to kick than H, oxy, anything. You can do it but not alone. Please talk to a doctor.

Which will only leave you with no fight left to kick the thing. Thinking of you. You are not alone. Sending love to anyone who got caught up in this horrible thing.

In my opinion, all humans are prone to addiction, be it addiction to positive things such as love or friendship or negative things such as self harm or drugs. We form routines that are familiar and safe and then eventually the routines form us, if they are negative habits then they cause discomfort or dis-ease. No one is completely well physically and it is no different mentally, we are all looking for a fix and sometimes we choose the fix that will break us.

If someone is an adult and not incarcerated you cannot really do that if THEY are providing for themselves. There are plenty of people who what they call functioning addicts the ones that pay their own bills, work and generally maintain their own affairs. As long as someone is doing that then you cannot really bar them from legal activities. Now, if it is a halfway house or something they can do things such as impose a curfew or require that they have a job/school whatever, but as long as they are doing that, paying their own way and not being a bad influence on others what they do with their money and resources is their business.

How can being a junkie or diabetic be the same? Diabetics don't rob or steal. For real 🤣

Diabetics don't have to steal because most of the time insurance pay for the medication. People on Heroine steal bcas you have to pay out of pocket and it can become very expensive when it becomes dependent on your health. When you don't have the money and you going through, what else to do when you experiencing severe pain!

It's a trite thing for them to say, but probably true. A parent should (at minimum) care enough about a kid to make sure their basic needs are met. With a monkey this big on their back it is very difficult for addicts to provide this.

This all too common. Many have lost the battle because lack of resources. Hope your loved one was able to get help or at least still alive. There’s always hope if they’re still alive
