Today I bring you Keiki Haniyasushin's theme, the final boss from Touhou 17 Wily Beast and Weakest Creature.
I love this theme, I love this character, I love the story of this game and this character, I love everything.
When I played for the first time I had no idea what was going on, I did not understand how a character with this appearance could be the final boss of a game that deals with trips to hell and beast spirits, but once I read the story, everything made sense. I love how ZUN has played with us in this game.
About the theme itself, it has not taken me long to become fond of him. Once you understand that this theme should not be epic or challenging, but cheerful and calm, a battle in which no one knows who the villain is, you understand that this theme fits perfectly.
On the other hand, I like the style of this theme so much ... it reminds me a lot of Touhou's original style, and that makes me very happy.
If it is true that I changed some things regarding the original theme, there were certain moments like in 2:37 when I kept hearing the dissonance, so I decided to change it ...

That was epic
one of the most epic momments in touhou ever. Especially because that last spell card, idola diabolus, is brutal, and weirdly reminiscent of yukari's last spell card.
Golly, this is so accurate, it's scary
And I agree in the description, the theme sounds pretty much how what's happening in this game
We don't know who's the villain nor the hero
I think this is the first time ZUN goes "It's up to your interpretation" on the plot
Lunartic Skele-bone or simply that. There is *NO* hero or villain. Everyone does what they can do to survive.
Except in the end Reimu's the hero because she beats up everyone. That's how it works in Gensokyo.
The Real Cactoos
But we already know that the villains are the main characters and the animal spirits. They manipulated Reimu/ Marisa/ Youmu into killing Keiki because she was turning their “realm” into a more modern place fit for human spirits. Keiki was the good guy trying to protect the human spirits from the animal spirits. By defeating her you put all the human spirits in that realm at risk.
Uhhhh yeah, she did protect the human spirits, but also made them slave....again lmao
Fujiwara No Mokou
How did she make them slaves? She literally modernized the garden and replaced the human soldiers with haniwa soldiers since they don’t need rest and are more durable. She practically created a paradise for humans and protected them from the claws and fangs of the beast spirits.

This track really sounds like a battle between wily, strong beasts and weak, desperate humans. When you realize how much responsibility was assigned to Keiki and how her actions led to the suffering of the enemies as well as her worshippers, the zunpets start to sound like an outcry in the light of ambiguity of the situation. It's the moment when you just tried to help when you're asked, and get the condemnation back instead. I can't really tell whether I support the main character or not, and that's why I love the plot in this game, it actually really resembles to UFO in some way.
I always thought that if a boss were to have Eastern Story in their theme, they are very powerful and serious.
Then i found out that Keiki is based on god that is one of the children of japanese creation gods, Izanami and Izanagi.
But still, shes still powerful. Her anility though can be ignored at first(which is just making idols and statues), is pretty powerful, able to make anything she makes out of normal things into a god by placing faith in them. And those idols ability though still lower than suwako and kanako can still be comparable to suwako and kanako. Hecatia won because of pure outnumber since shes stronger than eiki and can 3v1 anyone, but keiki have thousands of gods at her disposal.... I mean the main cast already have a hard time destroying each idols. Heck, theyre running away from her. They won because the spirits somehow just rushes in and overwhelm keiki at the last second.

Well, in fact Keiki is not the first final boss that have Eastern Story in her theme. Eirin, Kaguya, Shikieiki, and even Junko have Eastern Story theme in their themes.

Hecatia isn’t strong because she can outnumber people, she’s just outright on a completely different level than anyone from Earth or the Moon.
At first, Touhou 17 OST didn’t really stood out to me, the demo didn’t really have any outstanding themes, and when the full version, it didn’t really live up to my expectations as HSiFS had such an amazing OST in general.
But after a few more listens, I’m in love with all the themes in the later half of the game, and the story really took a twist, it’s similar to hidden stars in that the extra stage is where the story truly ends. Keiki’s theme is also quite similar to Okina’s first theme, having elegant melodies that shows off the grace of a goddess instead of power, I wasn’t a fan of it at first, but after a few more listens it surely grew on me

The final boss themes just get better and better with every instalment.
And I'm not complaining at all.
Basically Ms. Create got attacked because Beast Yakuza tricked the protagonist.
This theme really reminded me of Judgement of Sixtieth Year on the intro. Then History of The Moon when ToES hits in. Some people have heard Legendary Illusion, but personally i didn't hear it. Although let's say ZUN made us really surprised right now with the plots and especially this bossfight. Like wow the changing backgrounds is too epic.

This final boss theme rivals Little Princess in my opinion. It's THAT good.

Pure Furies will always be my favorite Touhou track, but this is definitely the best theme for a final boss.

Keiki fue manejada excelentemente desde el stage hasta la musica.
(Aunque aun me sorprende que no tenga una spell survival)
Si tiene xD solo que esta buggeada lo mismo que pasaba con la del touhou 16 que si usabas la bomba durante la survival aparecia y ya podias atacarla

@@fernandoemiliosuarezchel3665 De verdad? Wow, no recuerdo haber usado ninguna bomba contra ella y aun así no recuerdo ninguna Spell card survival. Con la que si me ha pasado es contra Saki. En su spell card survival usé una bomba y le apareció la barra de vida.
@@williatico si tiene xD donde aparecen las balas que te siguen y desaparece ella en el fondo es una survival pero si activas bomba o alguna bestia aparece junto con su barra de vida xD con okina pasaba lo mismo que al activar el poder de las estaciones (la barrera) se activaba la barra de ataques

BTW. What do you think about Egoistic Flowers 2 years later? I remember feeling the same as you did when it first came out, but now it's one of my top themes - I love it sooo much.
Well, now I pretty love it, but mainly because I really enjoy playing it on my piano.
And well, the latest touhou music disappointed me because I know ZUN could do it much better, I'm not saying that they were horrible, but I what most disappointed me was the fact that he completly forgot about his traditional style. Even so, In this game he has demosntrated what I was expecting, It's sublime. Even if he has experimented a lot in the OST, it really has the Touhou feeling, and even I can sense the style and atmosphere of previous games in some of the themes. That's what I expected about ZUN

All the SD-90 instruments are from the Edirol SD-90, a physical synthetizer. The rest of instruments are from Steinberg plugins.
