  • This video is an overview of the Gori folding propeller system. The Gori folding propeller reduces total drag by up to 35%. This results in one full knot of improvement in speed under sail.

Encantado de haberla montado en mi velero , desde el año pasado que se la monté está cumpliendo con todos los apartados que yo demandaba a una hélice abatible tripala, velocidad y respuesta en maniobrabilidad en puerto.

i dont think this animation makes it completely clear. ">" symbol means greater than. not "into". overdrive can not be engaged while moving forward. overdrive can only be engaged when travelling in reverse. if the boat is moving ahead and the gearbox is put into neutral the prop will always fold to its stowed position. always will the prop open in normal pitch mode, from a folded position (stowed) when going ahead. the only way you can get the prop to open in its overdrive position is by going into reverse. then to keep it there you need to go ahead while the boat is still moving in the reverse direction. water pressure against the blades while moving astern due to enertia prevents the blades from folding back to there stowed position, then when you engage forward gear before the boat stops moving astern, the blades gives you forward thrust in the overdrive configuration. to go back to normal pitch mode simply put the gearbox into neutral while moving ahead. the water pressure will stow the blades to there folded position. then put the gearbox back into ahead and the blades will be spread into there standard pitch config by centrifugal force. over drive can only be found by holding the blades in reverse config by water pressure aplied to them by the boat moving backwards. this will happen everytime you back out of your slip if you engage forward gear while still moving backwards. to get standard pitch mode back, simply get the boat moving forward. put the gearbox into neutral so the water pressure stows the blades, then engage forward gear again and you have standard pitch mode again.

This propeller is very elegant in its concept and its workmanship. However, while the leading edge changes over on reverse, the centrifugal force is what keeps the blades open when reversing. Also, I would not project the benefits of the overdrive as that state is only a situation where the trailing edge becomes the leading edge and any good propeller will always have the difference between the leading edge angle of attack and the trailing edge angle of attack to ensure the right apparent velocity entering into the leading edge. All this is destroyed in the overdrive state and with the sharp edge and higher angle of attack, the trailing edge will not provide a perfect entry to the apparent water into what is to be a leading-edge design. I am sure that this prop will cavitate a lot at the " sharp leading edge" when in an overdrive state.

Thank you for your comment. For "Overdrive Mode" the trailing edge of the blade is cut with approx. 20% more pitch than the leading edge. When in "Overdrive Mode" the boat can run at a lower rpm while maintaining the same hull speed, ie. like a 5th gear on a car. The prop does not cavitate when in "overdrive mode". The blade is not cut like a traditional blade having a thin trailing edge. Happy to send more information if you send us an email @ sales@ab-marine.com

@@abmarine1257 does the propeller unfold itself due to the rotational centrifugical forces and the shape of the blade force it in the right direction? Or is it pushed into possition from mechanical input by the driver? Would it for examble work with a generator if you lock it in the reversed possition and drag it?
