Hey Jules, Does your version of the new G8 Plus handle the 5.0ghz WIFI band. too? Just wondering. In the US, the Moto G series have dual band wifi (2.4 and 5.0). But my last international Moto G (the kind sold in other countries) didn't have the 5.0ghz band. I like the intl versions, because you get two sim card slots. The US version only gets one.

Motorola usually makes one (pretty delayed) major OS version update, so if G8 Plus gets 10.0 soon, it might not then get 11.0. While G8 Power is guaranteed to get 11.0 as it is already on 10.0. Just a thing to consider.

If the power had NFC I'd consider it. NFC should be considered a standard feature in all smartphones in 2020, it's so cheap. Otherwise it's pretty darn good...
I feel like if they rolled all of these features into only a couple of phones they could produce an overall excellent phone for about the same price or perhaps even less, like Xiaomi or Realme. Instead they're doing a Samsung and releasing as many phones as they can, and very few of them are likely to be updated past a year.
Here's what I'd like to see:
    - NFC as standard
    - Stop splitting camera features (unless the phone is specifically camera focused)
    - 4500mAh battery at least
    - Take a leaf out of Apple's book and actually support your phones, we don't all want a mound of e-waste on our hands...
    - Don't even bother trying to sell a 720p display (not these models specifically)
Up to the G3, Motorola were doing pretty well with the best bang for your buck, but they're really dropped the ball in recent years. My Gen 1 Moto G has a 720p screen, you shouldn't be selling anything larger than 4.5 inches at 720p these days. Sure resolution isn't everything, but really?

The Plus for me and my brother has one. My daughter had a new Samsung A51 which is a direct competitor but costs about £75 more. The reason I favour the Plus over Power is the NFC which works with my camera, but more importantly I imagine, can store credit and debit cards for no limit contactless payment virtually everywhere these days [apart from at John Lewis stores perhaps]. Also NFC smartphones are about to be able to replace car keys for keyless entry and drive type cars. It’s coming to Apple phones through a software update apparently so Android shouldn’t be far behind.

The g8 power surprisingly has more cameras and a more modern selfie camera then the g8 plus... In addition it's large battery and android 10 interface means for a cheaper price you get overall more (a slightly worse camera but that's it) and it will last you longer in terms of software updates

Hey Mark, This is Gene in the US. I have the international version of the G7 Power now. I love the battery life, but have problems seeing the screen in bright sunlight. Does the Moto G8 Power you have (we call it the intl version here), have a screen that can easily be seen in the bright sunlight, without you having to find a little shade to look at it?
If so, then I'll order the G8 Power. Also, does the G8 Power have dual band wifi reception (2.4ghz and 5.0ghz)? My G7 Power intl version only came with 2.4ghz wifi reception. Not as important as screen brightness, but still, nice!

This is what I'd do when I get a new phone. Bit of a tech enthusiast myself hence why I watch the channel, I also look for value for money, so the G7 power was definitely a consideration for my last phone.

Love the big battery of G8, but found out G8 doesn't support Miracast, so can only cast to TV with Chromecast, which requires a router. I can't cast since I have no router, I use my unlimited mobile data instead of wasting hundreds of $ per year on internet provider. Was able to cast with old phone that supports Miracast with Netgear Push2TV. Wish Chromecast didn't require a router, stupid limitation. Returning it for a phone that supports Miracast. Why not support Miracast? Ha! Google acquired Motorola in 2015. So requiring Google Chromecast to be able to cast to TV forces G8 users to buy Chromecast. What a surprise!

I returned to Moto a few years ago with my current E5. It was inexpensive and I needed a quick phone, cheap. Now it's shown to be the best phone I have ever had considering Apple, Nokia, Emerson, Alcatel et.al. It seems the Microsoft blowup put them in a position to where they have to really do good to take back their old market share, which was #1 many years. I came to this YT because I'm wanting, not needing, a new one. My simple E5 12mp Camera shut down an Iphone X my friend had just bought, he was surprised to have to admit it was better.. my shopping here is IF I buy one of these, the camera will be better then my E5. I don't own one but i asked a friend to test using his phone. Heres what he responded with: It will last about 2-3 days if not doing anything exept for running the screen.
If you are a heavy user it is approximately 19 hours if using something such as a game nonstop.
If you are running the phone with the screen off and you are on airplane mode, it will last about 5-6 days
People do seem to say the power is worse than the moto g7 power but it is just about the same as there are no noticable changes between the G7 and G8 other than better cameras.

I am an Apple user and have been on iOS for prob a decade. I cannot stand the whole Android bloatware mess, but absoluetly loooove Moto. And I want to support any brand that does stereo speakers on such an affordable range, haha.
Might as well sell my iPhone 11 Max and bank the cash, if this Power overtakes me :D
I actually did try one other Moto before, it was a Motorola One Action but they had a strange video encoder that was horribly washing out contrast into pastel-looking videos (only the "One" lineup though). So I was upset and eventually gave it up, but I've missed Moto since because everything else was great. I'm really excited now haha.
Affordable smartphones like this just makes the experience feel right, don't know how to say it. There's literally no guilt and otherwise I have issues with that big time. This is great
