Technically yoshi was always immune to enemies. In yoshis island he only drops mario. In other 2d mario games he just starts running around In fear. But of course, yoshi can always fall/burn to death.
Edit: OK people keep naming games where he wasn't invincible lol. Perhaps we can just say in the older games Yoshi was invincible.

That's not true. In Yoshi's Story, Yoshi's Woolly World, Yoshi's Crafted World, and Super Mario Run he takes damage and can even die from enemies.
The only reason he doesn't die in Yoshi's Island is because you have to save Baby Mario, or that he's a mount/item in games like Super Mario World.

I was imagining a Yoshi game's health system. Start with 10/20 HP, lose 5 every hit you take, and power-ups only recover 1 or 2 while checkpoints recover like 5.

At first I tried with a Yoshi, and then I tried using ELEPHANT MARIO to push it.
My BFF who played as Yoshi and still managed to die plenty of times: ‘My ways are beyond your understanding, mortal’
Nah, but for real, Yoshi was a huge help to us. If she had played a character that could get hurt, we’d lose lives even faster than we already were on one particular level.
And I myself am a chronic underjumper, that wall climb badge is my life saver and the pit jump one is hers.
To be fair, she doesn’t play a lot of platformers, especially now that she doesn’t have a console of her own, so a character like Yoshi helps a ton (usually, accidentally jumped on his back a lot, resulting in some deaths).
Though I wish there was just a toggle to turn Yoshi into a vulnerable character so people stop being angry that the Yoshis are invulnerable to most things.
I actually did a full Yoshi play through and I was surprised. Yes, he is a baby mode character, but if you want to complain about baby modes, just look at Nabbit. He’s like fresh out of the womb mode. I only needed to use Mario 5 times for 100% completion too! Yoshi is also a super unique character, being able to use his tongue and flutter jump in many unique ways. And if you were worried about dying, Yoshi surprisingly dies a lot! I only had about 30 deaths when I played through the game as Mario and 20 as Luigi, but Yoshi surprisingly died some too. For example, in the direct when it was explaining that Yoshis could die from lava, Yoshi got hit by a fireball and landed into lava. The knock back will cause you to die. But it isn’t that apparent in the 1st world or 2. But when there’s lava and other obstacles, you might die. But that doesn’t come without some problems. If there is only obstacles, Yoshi wouldn’t be affected. If there was only bottomless pits, Yoshi would just flutter jump over it. But really, who cares. Wonder is a very easy game already, being the easiest 2D Mario. And if you need to use yoshi, then you might have problems. But if you use Nabbit, you definitely have problems.
TLDR: Yoshi is an unique experience and he’s cool to use.
I used Nabbit only for a coin farming method because I couldn’t be bothered to get the standees legitimately haha

I fully agree with this! I didn’t use yoshi because I needed to, I just used him because I thought it would be a fun and unique experience.
Yeah, but it still would've been better to make him take damage so he can play like the others
My issue is that Yoshi is a completely unique experience that is locked as the designated baby mode. I have to mod the game to not feel like I'm cheating by using him.
i'm pretty sure the only reason Yoshi dies in one hit isn't because you made him weak (other than the fact that he couldn't die), but because he can't use powerups...
If he could use powerups it would still work the same. Rimea did a video that mentioned this being a parameter you can change easily in the code, and it still works the same with powerups. Also yoshi is normally in a constant super-mushroom state (he's two blocks high; can break bricks)

Yoshi being "baby mode" isn't new. This was true in every mainline Mario game he was playable/made an appearance in aside from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island(yes that counts), the Advance version, Super Mario Run, and Super Mario 64 DS.
Not true for 64 DS, he’s a required character to beat the game and is treated as equal to the others for the most part. He’s just bad.
he’s never been playable in main like Mario except for 64 dis and in that game he’s not easy mode

Thank God. Do not think that you are not valuable or something like that, you matter more than you think and you are a peice of the world. You are someone that people out there need and that should not feel this way. This world Is bad and there are a lot of things that can make people depressed, but even things that are worth living for! Like friends, beautiful locations, succulent food and Geno from Super Mario RPG dancing.

I'm guessing that usually, the credits grant everyone Yoshi-like invincibility. Since that invincibility was turned off, you can die in the credits.
We need Glass Yoshi to be canon. Also, what Falc said at the beginning of the video was relatable asf.
I was the same way when I heard Yoshi is an easy mode and you can’t do anything about it but mod the game.
Fun fact: Shadow Mario copies your exact movements about 2 seconds behind you.

Yoshi being easy mode docked it down a point a point for me for being the perfect Mario game. Mario Run had a normal Yoshi, so why couldn’t he be the same here?
Easy mode on Yoshi should’ve been a toggle. It actually locks you out of some levels because Yoshi (and Nabbit) can’t even play certain levels due to power up requirements.
Yep,yoshi should have been able to use atleast some of the powerups,especially the ones required for some levels.

In my opinion, Yoshi should’ve acted up like how he did it in Mario run, which is a little cursed and should have the ability to walk on spikes and munchers like in Mario maker
You could have done like in mario run for cellphones, that they maintain invincibility to spikes from below but if the spikes come from above or sides they become small yoshis. They "fly" and get the tongue.

As a person who needed to use nabbit to get to the final boss I agree that it’s baby mode, especially with safety bounce badge but as a result of my lack of skill I can’t even beat the goomba extra level, not with the maw-maws, the level that’s in the area in the sky.
I did find it sad that yoshi became an easy mode character. This would be a good addition.

Honestly I'm more sad that people consider it easy mode. It just doesn't take hits to kill directly doesn't mean its less fun to play like nabbit. (For me i just like not having to worry about getting hit, its a platforming game anyway)

Here’s how you can make glass Yoshi even more difficult. Make him actual glass. For example, he can take fall damage, much like SM64, if you fall from a specific height, you’ll take damage. So in this case, glass Yoshi will shatter if he falls while being too high. Although it seems impossible due to some places where you it’s unavoidable, But just like SM64, you can slide on walls or groundpound the right time to cancel any possibility of fall damage. Just to make the challenge harder, that’s all.
But if you want to make it EVEN harder, you’ll have to groundpound *cancel* to prevent yourself from shattering.

The Yoshi thing really feels insulting to me and is very telling what direction Nintendo wants to take the character. Nabbit was fine as the invincible character but Nintendo's blatant dismissal of Yoshi is even more clear now that this change has been made.
To be fair, in MOST games where Yoshi is ridden by other characters (including Yoshi's Island) he is invincible as well.

Do you want to know how I make playing as Nabbit difficult? If I play as Nabbit, I have to add an optional challenge onto the run. For example, don’t get hit 3 times, or don’t press left, or don’t miss with Rhythm Jump.

There is _one_ trade off of playing as yoshi, and that's being unable to access many collectibles and a few secret exits because of a lack of powerups
I died like a million times using Yoshi by either getting squished, falling in pits by not holding the dash button, falling in lava or failing to clear the rising poison pool.
Special World added even more deaths on top of the Final, Final level.
Nabbit's true baby mode or "fetus mode" as I call it, I don't think he has knockback like Yoshi. Yoshi's knockback either pushes me into lava or a pit.
