  • Today it's time for another polka challenge. Thanks for giving my fingers a mid-Winter workout! This time it's "Mr. Buttons," a great tune I learned from Don Gralak's version on the classic "Some of the Best" CD from 1991. Enjoy, and thanks for watching!

The main melody is taken from a song called Na Ribniškem Sejmu which I believe Franz Mihelic wrote. I play it on the button box although the B and C parts are quite different from Don's tune.

Not sure if you know this, but, This tune is actually a compellation of 3 different songs, but all written by Franc Mihelic of Slovenia. Mr. button's arrangement uses the first part of one song. the second part from another song,. and the 3rd part from a 3rd song. I'm not sure who the first was to record it in this arrangement, i know don Gralak played it. Benzy Rathbone also. and now every accomplished button box player usually can play it. but originally the tunes were written by Franc Mihelic.

Thanks, Michael! Alex Meixner just sent me a run down on this song, too. It has quite a history - thanks for sharing this! And hope you're doing well!

Just commented and now I see your reply about it. The Mihelic tune is wonderful and one of the reasons I fell for the button box.

@@theodoreceplina6064 It's a great song, and a great instrument! And Mihelic looks like an amazing player!
