  • Long term review of my Hamilton Khaki field quartz, why I chose it, why I call it a Paradox watch and would I recommend it? Was a quartz version a mistake? My thoughts on this classic of a watch

    Glad to see a real review of this watch. This is what videos about watches should be. Sharing your experience with it. Most watch videos are just people regurgitating boring facts and descriptions of the watch. No thanks. I can google that for myself.

    Just get yourself a Timex Expedition North Field Mechanical or the solar version of you want even more piece of mind. 100m water resistance, sapphire crystal and even a screw down crown on the solar version for $150 new. Or $120 if you wait for one of Timex's 20% off sales, which happens all the time.
    Anyway, this is only the second video of yours I've watched, and I've loved them both. I love how honest and no-nonesense you are in your reviews. Keep it up! Cheers!

      It’s comments like these that really motivate me to keep trying, hombre! Thank you so much for saying that! And would you believe, I actually pretty much every sale, have the solar expedition north in the basket? I really like the newest version with textured dial… but haven’t pulled the trigger yet… have you got one? I’d like to get recommendations from someone who actually owned one of these… anyway, thank you very much again! Cheers

    • @makius1400
      @makius1400 Před 3 měsíci

      @@WatchWatch-ck6xl yeah I've actually got both the Expedition North Field Post Mechanical (38mm black textured dial), and the 41mm solar version.
      I think the mechanical is slightly better looking because it has that slightly cleaner/classic field watch look without the date window and crown guards of the solar. Although I personally do like being able to quickly check the date on my watch, and with it being such a small date window I think it works well on the 41mm solar version. Also, the dial texture is sharper and pops more on the mechanical vs. the the solar version because the solar dial is slightly transparent due to the solar cell which didn't really translate well in the photos on the Timex website, and in bright light it is noticeable.
      I bought the mechanical first, loved it and wore the crap out of it. Then got the solar version for shits and giggles and ya know what.... Even though I think the mechanical is the slightly better looking watch, and a truer representation of the classic field watch, I find myself wearing the solar version more often just for the simplicity of quartz, peace of mind, and the bonus date function. Oh I also have large wrists so the 41mm solar is no problem for me. For someone with small wrists I'd say the mechanical is a clear winner with that sweet 38mm diameter case size.
      Also the strap they come with isn't bad and looks good with the subtle orange stitching accents, but I did upgrade them with a high end shell cordovan strap (cost damn near as much as the watch lol).
      Anyway, that's my take, but I really do recommend them both and didn't think you can go wrong either way. I'd love to see your review of either one (or both). Good luck! Cheers!

      @WatchWatch-ck6xl  Před 3 měsíci

      Man! You should do the reviews, too! Thanks a lot and I will try to get the Solar one for sure… or the Mechanical… damn I don’t know… I like them both 🙄

    I'm a teenager who got into collecting watches recently. I bought myself a hamilton khacki mechanical for about $460 after taxes off of jomashop. I absolutely love it, although I can't stop thinking about all the watches I want in the future. I recently have really liked the IWC mark 20. Even though it is overpriced for the specs, it really does tell a story. I am excited to see where you end up going in this hobby, I'll subscribe!

      That is super exciting to read! So glad that there are teenagers getting into this hobby! Thank you, amigo! And I have to say excellent choice! You obviously got a good taste 😁 I have to be honest and say I have never actually handled the IWC in person, I do like their designs, but a lot of them seem a bit oversized for my taste. Hope you get it soon! Thanks for watching and commenting! Massively appreciated

    I went the similiar way. At the beginning of my watch collecting journey I was tempted by many youtubers to buy a field watch. However, as time was passing down, I managed to fight that desire. I convinced myself, that I do not need any WW2 or Dirty Dozen watch. The G-Shock is all I need for heavy duty tasks.
    The different story is, that I could not resist a flieger watch. 😁
    BTW, it is an awesome idea that you cover watch icons, one by one. What is next? A Speedy, SKX or Monster? 😁

      @WatchWatch-ck6xl  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Hahha I have to admire your resolve 😂 I am weak 😂 and yeah I got Gshock for the heavy duty stuff - manual work or sport.. and if I was a soldier I would wear Gshock anyway… I haven’t got a flieger yet though :( have been thinking for a way too long to get one from Laco - I know I eventually will 😂 as for what is next? i dunno yet 😂 have been thinking about making a Vostok Komandierski GMT video next as I have some material shot from recent travels… citizen promaster or the Alpinist… not quite decided 😁 thank you very much for watching and commenting, hombre! @WatchWatch-ck6xl  Před 4 měsíci +2

      💯 the thing is I couldn’t really imagine this Particular khaki on a bracelet, its super thin, so Nato was the way to go for me. Maybe the Khaki automatic would look good on bracelet I would say.

  • @stephenmundane

    Enjoyed that -- thanks. The MAC-SOG in the Vietnam war, the elite American "special forces", wore small, non-hacking, Seiko 5s with acrylic crystals, push-pull crowns and a water resistance of 50m. That should put the specifications of the modern Hamilton Khaki, quartz or mechanical, into context. The closest modern equivalent to the Vietnam-era Seiko is the SNK381 but they are hard to find new. You don't need to buy a Hamilton to get heritage and genuine military history.

  • @damyr
    @damyr Před měsícem

    It's beautiful in its simplicity. It really doesn't need high polished surfaces. But if you want something durable and a bit shiny (not boring looking), but something that will endure everything you throw at it, then Casio Oceanus S100 or T200 might be your picks. Made out of titanium, with radio control and solar charging, and cost less than $500. Those are ultimate GADA watches.
    Btw, for those who say quartz watches don't have a soul... Tell them that actually mechanical don't have a soul, because they're purely mechanical. A human body produces electricity and vibrating frequency, just like quartz. But those people are just ******. Mechanical watches compared to quartz is like bad quality products compared to high quality, tho in this case bad quality is much more expensive... which is actually incredibly wrong.

      Still got it on my radar…

    I had bought the same quartz Hamilton model some time ago. At first I was very excited about the purchase. In the end, I found it a very simple and boring watch. I didn't like the completely matte case and the quartz model kind of lacked soul, unlike the mechanical models. I just didn't like that choppy movement of the quartz hand. It has the feel of a toy. I sold it on ebay. Now I intend to get the same model again but automatic with the red marker on the second hand. I like mine, it is my everyday watch. Get the time at a glance, accurate, tough,good looking. The actual MilSpec field watch I was looking at is the Marathon automatic, ETA2801 movement, tough, but not as pretty. Started wearing automatics when my quartz watches😅 failed due to fogging up caused by leaking gaskets when the battery was changed, or inopportune times when the battery packed it in. There are a hundred field watches or posers out there, from $37 to $6,000 but this one is the one they are all chasing IMHO.

    • @WatchWatch-ck6xl

    They just never resonated with me, despite all the hype. It’s undoubtedly a great watch, but not what I wanted in a field watch. A year later after being bombarded by youtube hype, I gave in and bought it. Turns out YT was right and past me was wrong: I love the watch!
