Your time perspective is flawed!!!. You can not use modern time look on Greenland and Iceland. If you go back 1000+ years... you would see that the vikings named the areas correct. Greenland was green, and Iceland was mainly ice. People of old named places using logic... "Newfoundland" it was a new land for them... etc etc.

I don’t think they had toilets. I’d imagine it was a bucket or they did their business over the edge of the ship.
