I have been paying attention to professional trombone players on CZcams. Some make playing seem effortless, even in the higher registers. On the other hand, others seem have a hard, laborious time hitting higher notes and it shows in their facial expressions. They don't seem relaxed at all. You have helped me with some tips and I appreciate that.

I’m glad the tips have been helpful. The true masters make the horn an extension of themselves. Staying “out of the way” is really the key. It’s easy and difficult all at the same time.

Something just clicked recently with my playing to where I’ve pretty much eliminated as much tension as possible but my ranges still speak very well. I used to really have to strain to get above a high F but now I can effortlessly play up to a high D and have good flexibility between registers. Idk what happened really but I did that trick where you put the back of your horn on a wall and move off of the mouthpiece so you’re just barely on it then playing so that there literally is as little tension as possible. I think having that realization and practicing every day for months has truly taken my playing to the next level and it all feels much more comfortable.

Consistency and not doing more then what’s required is the key!

WHUD UP DION ! YOU COULD ALSO PLAY HERBIE HANCOCK'S MAIDEN VOYAGE OR THAD JONES A CHILD IS BORN AS A LONG TONE STUDY TO WARM UP OR TO JUST RELAX YOUR TENSION AND ALSO YOUR MIND !

Those are two great songs to practice playing long tones. Sometimes it just takes one note to make the melody sound right. 😀

Flugabone is coming along nicely. I really love the sound of the horn. It’s made me approach the trombone differently, in a good way.
